So, I have a purebred pocket bully that I adopted from a friend after a landlord dispute they had, and he came with some habits that I honestly have no idea how to curb. He was 2 1/2yo when we got him and is now a little over 3 1/2 years
The first and most concerning is that he REALLY likes beer, his previous owner was full hillbilly and gave him beer A LOT, and he developed a heart murmur because of it. Whenever we have friends over, he gets nippy and aggressive about begging for the beer if we tell him no, I use a squirt bottle to discourage him, but sometimes it makes him a bit more vocal and pushy if he’s in a mood. We’ve also tried time out and just firmly saying no
The second habit he came with is a hotspot scratching need that has cost us many couches and chairs. He has no impulse control and just scratches until he passes out from the pain or we catch him in the act and give him a squirt. He currently is on vet prescribed medication to control the pain and hotspot flashes, but he was allowed to literally run his backside RAW on the previous owners couch or trees on their property, so he’s developed a nasty habit of trying to scratch on everything.
His vet didn’t offer much advice for the beer problem, for both she mostly offered a bad tasting no-itch solution, but bitter bites can only stop so much when he’s in the zone.
Any advice would be amazing, I’m not sure my carpets or current couch can stand up to the constant wear haha. I’ve briefly considered filling a clean, empty beer bottle with water and tricking him that way, but I’m not sure how deception will sit with him
