Cat broke tooth 401 (smallest chiclet on bottom front) gums are swollen. ER vet says most likely will fall out since root is showing, advice on what to look for when it comes to infection?

As the post says our little boy recently broke a tooth biting on something and we rushed him to ER vet at 1 in the morning thinking it was possibly a jaw injury. Vet says it’s tooth 401 and his gums are swollen because of it. We have him on gabapentin that was prescribed to deal with pain, but just curious how long swelling usually lasts? We bought him soft food and called around. Quotes seem to be around $500-700 for removal which is fine if deemed necessary but we already have invested over $200 just for diagnosis and medications and would like to save money in case there’s any future health problems. Vet says the way it broke will most likely fall out but it’s been two days and there’s still some redness and swelling. Just wondering what to look for when there’s infection or if there’s anything to help with swelling? Do vets usually offer some installment billing? How serious is something like this usually?
