Full dental extraction? Need advice please

Hello,

I have a male 13 year old dachshund/chihuahua mix, he was diagnosed with severe gum disease and rotting teeth. Based on the assessment of the vets, he will most likely require a full dental extraction taking out pretty much all his teeth, although they were saying they always try to save any that they can.. This procedure will cost around $4000-5000. I was shocked at the diagnosis and I didn’t even ask good questions to the vet. I am willing to pay so that he can go through with the surgery but I am wondering what his quality of life will be like without any teeth?

They also saw he has mild bronchitis and an enlarged heart. He will be on antibiotics for a couple weeks before the extractions. His labs were cleared for surgery, and afterwards they will do an ultrasound of the heart to see what is going on..

This is all so much for me, my dog’s behavior isn’t any different but the vets say he is in a lot of pain and should be on pain medications too.

If anyone here has gone through this type of thing, what advice do you have for me? How will my dog’s life be affected by having no teeth? And are the other diagnoses a major concern too given his age?

Sorry for the long post, any advice is much appreciated.
