Hi there! My cat (12 yo) has had arthritis for a couple of years for which he has been given daily pain relief. Recently he’s had an accident jumping from the sofa onto the floor and has been limping since then. We got a referral to see an orthopaedic surgeon for surgery evaluation (our regular vet said there are no other options apart from heavier pain relief). Our vet said that due to arthritis he would recommend having surgery on both of his back legs, where they will fuse the joints in his ‘ankles’ in order to get rid of the pain from movement (arthrodesis).
We will follow the vet surgeon’s advice, but I was wondering whether anyone’s pet has had a similar surgery done and whether the surgery was done on one or two legs at the same time? I’m worried that it might be too much for him to have surgery on both legs on one day and his recovery after that.
Thanks!
