What would you do? my cat was put to sleep today... :(

My cat turned 16 years old this summer She was lively, friendly and smart. She never had any major health issues throughout her life. This past week I've notice there was some more kibble left in her bowl, and then I've noticed she wasn't drinking water at least not when I am home (I work long hours) and then changes in her gait and she would mew loudly at random times. Also a watery discharge from her eyes on Wednesday and greenish on Thursday. I took her to the ER on Friday afternoon. They examined her, did some labs. She was very dehydrated. Vet said she had kidney failure and recommended to keep her in the hospital for a few days to treat her with IV fluids. I chose to take her home instead and to bring her to our regular vet today. ER vet gave her some meds and subq fluids. Without much improvement.

Today I brought her to the regular vet, ER sent labs and exam report from yesterday. He checked on her and said that the kidney disease is more likely due to age and developed overtime unnoticed, which resulted in kidney failure. and there was not much that could be done... I could either let her go on her own in the next several days or euthanasia... I chose the latter.. I didn't want her to suffer..

Would you try and let your older pet be treated for Acute or chronic kidney failure in the hospital if there was at least 50%chance that the treatment would work?
