My sister’s dog is refusing to eat. She started showing a decreased appetite about two weeks ago. She is rapidly declining, and we don’t know what to do or what is wrong.
Her dog is a beabull, and she is about 20 months old. She usually has a lot of energy and loves to eat (she is mostly bulldog). However, she suddenly stopped showing as much interest in food. My sister was on top of it – she took her to the vet really quickly and has kept taking her back.
The vet cannot figure out what is wrong with her. They have had us try many different food options. We started with rice and chicken; she ate that for a bit before refusing to eat pretty much anything. We get her to eat a nibble here and there, but for the most part, she turns her nose at all food (even treats). She will even back away from food.
The vet has run an unusually high amount of tests with all negative results. They said she has colitis, a swollen liver, and nucleated red blood cells, but they don’t know the cause. She’s seen three different vets, and they all have said it’s not allergies.
She has been on some medicine to increase her appetite, kill infection, and make her go potty. She had a few days where she was throwing up, but we think that was a reaction to one of the medicines.
We don’t know what to do. She doesn’t have much time left because she refuses to eat, and I was wondering if anyone has had a similar situation.
