Hey guys, I’m in a horrible situation that I would hope no one has to endure but it seems to be very common. My cat is a door dasher and she bolted out the front door on the night of the 24th when I was coming back home from a friends house. My friend was coming in with me because I was sending them home with some cake I made the day prior. Since they were coming in after me and took a little while to make their way in, the were super apologetic about letting my cat get out (which she would’ve done anyway, but I didn’t want them to feel bad so I said it’s fine & began explaining how this isn’t uncommon behavior for her). Anyway, after I packed the cake in a container for them, I saw my cat in our front yard when they were driving away. I stood outside for about 10 mins coercing her to come in but she wasn’t having it. I decided to check back in with her about 20 mins later thinking that she’d be ready to come in (she’s an indooor cat but she like to spend time outside but never longer than a couple hours).
To make a long story short…after repeatedly checking outside, I never found her that night. It’s been 6 days now and I’m worried sick. I can’t eat or sleep and I now I hold the reputation of being the crazy neighbor driving / walking around in the dead of the night calling my cats name and shaking a treat bag around. I put her cat carrier outside with some of my dirty laundry in it, I’ve put her cat litter outside, I left my garage door cracked in case she wants to sneak in, I put flyers up on mail boxes and even on peoples doors.
HERES MY MAIN CONCERN FOR WORRY: Someone has been repeatedly taking down my missing cat posters on 1 specific mailbox. I know it’s not a legal issue because putting flyers on mail boxes where I live isn’t illegal (plus they’re leaving all the other flyers up and only taking my missing cat posters). I’ve put up a total of 8 posters in a span of 4 days and they’ve all been removed. We have security cameras outside our house and I can barley make out 1 person kind of pacing around the corner where the mail box is but I can’t actually see them taking the flyer. My cat is a bengal and she’s soooo friendly, almost to a fault, but I’m convinced this person has my cat. I’m planning on filing a stolen pet report tomorrow morning but I kind of just want to stake out the mailbox and see if I can catch this person in the act. I have no idea how to confront them if I do or even what I could say to them. Am I being crazy or are my concerns justified? I really just need advice, what would you do in this situation?
