Can someone explain what's going on with my cat?

I have a beautiful, gray, striped cat named Maisie. She's a little over 1 year old. She's in perfect health (per her last vet visit), my wife and I ensure her diet is healthy, and she plays/acts like any 1 year old cat should!

There is one peculiar thing, though. Coming out of her back end, there is what appears to be a piece of feces, and it protrudes about a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch out of her anus. She makes regular trips to the litter box, and we've observed her pass bowel movements. But even after, that small piece remains there. Which is so strange to us considering it's protruding from the center of the cavity. So, how could it NOT be pushed out when she poops? I've even put on a nitrile glove, used a paper towel, and tried to gently pull on it or detach it. This seems to hurt her, so I stop. I'm afraid to pull harder because I don't know what it is and I obviously don't want to inflict any serious damage. Any thoughts?

Sorry for the long text!
