My kitten is almost 8 months old, and I've had her for 4 months. She's pretty used to me. She's not a lap cat, but I figure she likes me enough so she follows me around. However, she absolutely does not, under any circumstances, let me cut her nails. The few times I've actually managed to do it has ended with me absolutely frustrated, and her...idk...annoyed? I've tried
- purritoing her - she slips out of it.
- bribing her with treats - she takes the treats and runs away, with me chasing after her in circles
- trimming them when she's sleeping - she will immediately wake up as soon as I touch her paw and walk away
- squishing her/holding her down - I don't like doing that because I don't want to injure her and it doesn't always work and she still manages to wiggle out
- holding her in my lap upright - wiggles out
Over the last 4 months I've managed to trim her nails like...3 or 4 times total, and even then not all 10 claws. I would be happy with 7. Funnily enough she does not mind me trimming her back claws, it's the front ones she has an absolute aversion to even be touched. Her claws have grown now, and they get stuck in everything. If they didn't I wouldn't even be bothered but she is such an active girl I am afraid they will get stuck in something someday and cause a huge problem for her. Is there a trick or tip I haven't been able to figure out?
