Sorry it’s kinda long
My male cat had some trouble using his litter box this morning. I suspect he was slightly constipated because it looked like some poop got stuck and he dragged it across a few places on the floor. So my partner and I cleaned the floor then proceeded to clean my male cat’s butt from all the poop smeared on it. (Yes it was gross).
He is only 1 1/2 years old and was adopted about a year ago after his “big sister” who is approximately 5 and was literally picked up from the streets by me in 2016. She has a bit of a street cat attitude but is generally sweet to her people (Myself and husband). The cats themselves are not super loving to each other but they get along great (play together, share food, sleep next to each other sometimes etc., but don’t groom each other or cuddle.
So anyway back to the story, when we cleaned him I was holding him down while husband cleaned up his butt and he was crying and meowing. When my female cat heard this she came out running with her tail really puffy and I thought she was trying to get at my crying male cat so I kept trying to push her off while my male cat was doing all he could to get away from us while cleaning him. So it was hard for me to hold him and he finally got away.
I thought my female cat was gonna go after him when he ran and attack him but she was actually trying to get to me all along and she started to attack ME. Swiping at my legs and ready to charge me. Anyway I distracted her by opening a door and going in and closing the door after her, but it left me super confused as to why she would attack me.
My husband said that she probably thought I was hurting him and wanted to defend him, but they have never been super close like I mentioned, so I guess it’s just surprising to me and a little shocking that she would go after me who she seems to love as well. Could there be another reason why she did that?
I am glad that she stood up for him ready to defend him if that’s the case but I am a little in shock too I guess. Has anyone experienced something like that with their pets?
