Just got a kitten for my 8 month old cat. Should I be worried?

So my 8 month old cat is very sociable and friendly and I felt bad that I left him alone so much so I decided to get him a friend.

I kept them in separate rooms all day and the older cat was hissing but not growling and seemed more curious than anything so I thought I let them roam around freely.

Now the kitten doesnt seem scared but will be submissive if my older cat swats at him but so far that's been it. No growling or aggressive behavior. Just hissing and swatting at the kitten but it seems like he is just establishing boundries.

Should I separate them again or just let them do their thing?
