Suggestions for what to do with a fish tank

Hi everyone, bare with me on this.

So I moved into a new place about a month ago and my mum gave me her old fish tank (800mm long x 450mm deep x 430mm high) and I've been really wondering on what to put in there. My family has had fish many times but I wanted to be different and avoid fish for the most part. I did look into possibly buying some stick insects to put in there, but I wanted to know what else could be done with the tank with them in there (eg: soil and plants etc). Everyone I've spoken to has suggested either getting a lizard or a turtle but from what I read they were extremely high maintenance and I'm looking for something a little more manageable.

If all else fails, I was planning on just getting a smaller tank for a betta and possibly catfish and selling the bigger one or just getting fish again. Anyone got any suggestions on what I could put in there besides fish or if it ends up being fish, what works well with a betta?

Thanks in advance!
