I adopted a shelter kitten 3 days ago and he became hyper active. I haven't slept a single hour today. His character is very different from what I have seen in the shelter. I don't know what to do. Would it be very wrong to return it if this continues?

At shelter, I was searching for a calm cat that would like to play but also lay down on me. Just something that is not hyper active and that is pretty calm.

I thought I found a cat just like that at the shelter. He was also a bit sick when I first saw him but when I took him in (few days later), it looked fine. He is pretty young, about 3 months or more.

During first days, she would only hide behind bath, eat while i was not looking.

As the time went by, I managed to make him less afraid or he did it himself. Sadly another thing started happening. The kitten started being hyper active yet still not allowing me to pet him and running away from me unless he wants to be pet at small periods of time.

This night was a disaster thought. As soon as I went to bed, he starts running around, knocking things off the shelf, chewing on wires, later walking on my head, cuddling with my head while I was trying to sleep. And it was not calm cuddling, He changes his position every 5 seconds, it's insane.... It's 8:17 AM and I haven't slept tonight at all.

I don't know what to do. It's been 3 days and I already think that i want to bring him back. I have experience with cats and kittens since I had them in my family since i was a kid. But nothing comes close to this...

I am planning to call the shelter lady today and ask her for advice, but I feel bad about this situation. I wanted to have a cat for few years and now this happens... I want a break, this is not what I was expecting. Honestly, I want to return it, but I feel very bad about it.

Things to note, I live in a small, one room apartment with kitchen and bath/toilet.

Opinions?
