So ive had my hamster for over a week and a half now. First ive noticed the dude gets hangry lol. He was being picky with a certain pellet from his mix he just didnt and wont eat and left in his little bowl. So i left it and didnt refill it to try and get him to eat it. He wouldnt eat it at all. And then he would start running around the cage and trying to get out. he ignored his wheel and all the things i put in there. The moment i filled his bowl up again cause its getting colder out and i feel like he just needs to eat so he can keep himself warm, anyways the moment i filled his bowl and he ate. He went back to his usualy burrowing, running on his wheel, chewing on his chew sticks. I plan to start spreading his food around his cage so he has to forge for it. And then making toys where he has to work for the food because i get the feeling the lil dude is bored. I gave him pieced of toilet paper he could use for nesting. But ive been finding him hard to tame. Like he takes food from my hand and sometimes rests his lil paws on my hand but ive never held him. He has smelt my hand and bit it not hard enough to break the skin but ill pull my finger away. I made a play pen for him and he will go into a cup if i put it in his cage and I have to cover it so he doesnt climb out while i carry him to the play pen. But when i put him in this large playpen he runs around and tries to escape it. He hasnt escaped it yet but the lil dude is strong and i end up putting him back in his cage cause im scared he will escape and the amount of energy he gets when he is ppaced in the play pen. The playpen is big enough for me to sit in there with him. Im really scared that I wont be able to form a really good bond with him and i wont be abke to tame him. I know its been a short amount of time and that i might be going to fast with him. Im just trying to get him used to me being around him. He has never been aggressive. he gets scared sometimes if i move to fast but im just wondering if i need to be patient and keep trying with him? Or if theres anything else i can do with a high energy hamster? I also want to know if the high energy part is normal. I shouldve seen it coming the way he was running around in his cage at the pet store climbing on everything he could. I just want to be able to hold him and hangout with him without worrying about him lookingnfor the first chance he can get to escape. Sorry this post is so disorganized.
