My 10 year old cat is pretty sick. He has tumors in his abdomen. We aren't sure if it's cancer because his bloodwork is normal and the only way to find out is exploratory surgery. They seem to be pressing on his stomach, so he can only eat small amounts and it may be painful. We tried giving him medicine to shrink them, but it is super traumatic for him. We gave him a pill last night and he was hissing and growling and swiping at me, even an hour later. I'm trying to get an appointment to talk to the vet about other medicine options and if surgery is a viable route.
But right now I just want him to eat. He has lost around 7 lbs and is very skinny. He loses interest in foods and we have to keep finding new ones and hope he likes them. He went from loving wet food to not eating it at all, he just sniffs it. Right now he has a certain kind of dry food he will eat a bit of and a wet food treat he likes. I got him to eat some wet food by pouring some of the treat on it. He usually eats very small amounts throughout the day, but he still isn't eating nearly enough. He's a Maine Coon mix and his healthy weight is 18-20lbs, and he is 13lbs right now.
I'm also a little worried his sense of smell is going. He had a hard time finding his bowl, we usually have to set him next to it every couple of hours.
Does anybody have advice on ways to get him to eat? Or at least get some calories/nutrition in him?
