Cat is extremely angry after getting medicine

My 10 year old cat, who I've had since I was 12, has two growths in his stomach. The vet says he doesn't know what they are, and his bloodwork came back all clear so we can't be positive if it's cancer or not. The growths pinch his stomach so he has lost a lot of weight and doesn't really want to eat. The vet gave us some pills to try and shrink the growths and to up his appetite.

He hates taking them. We kinda gave up on the appetite pill and are focusing on the other one that targets the growths since he is eating a bit more now. He seems to be swallowing the pills easily, like he hasn't spit them up that I've seen. He just hates us opening his mouth to give them to him (obviously he won't just eat them). My dad hasn't been able to give them to him by himself because my cat is big and wiggles a lot. Now that I can help my dad, we got him to take the medicine twice, but tonight he was super angry. He seemed to know what we were doing before we even got the pill out, and he was hissing and growling even before we gave it to him. He seemed to settle a bit right after he swallowed it, so I was petting him to try and comfort him. And then he growled and hissed again, so I got up to leave him alone. When I turned away he swiped at my leg and then followed me hissing and growling. He also followed my dad hissing and growling. He didn't do this the first time we got him to take the pill, that time he was totally chill after. I've now left the room to let him calm down.

He has never hissed or growled at me like that, he is not an aggressive cat at all so this behavior really worries me. I don't want him to associate me or my dad with getting his pill and have him start hating us, especially since he may not live much longer. He needs the pill once a day. Is there anything I can do to make it easier on him? When I leave in a couple weeks he probably won't even get them anymore since my dad can't do it by himself and I'll be back in school several states away.
