My boyfriends cats was having a heart attack and the vet sedated her, is this right?

My boyfriends cat passed away yesterday. She was just as close to me as well. She started to not be able to breath so my boyfriend rushed her to the vet. The vet said that all they could do was sedate her and put her to sleep. They sedated her and was going to euthanize her but she passed before they could. Now I'm pretty sure that this isn't what they do when humans have heart attacks and I'm getting angry. I feel like they should have tried to use chest compressions so her heart would start beating again. Does anyone have any experiences or knowledge that they can share?
