Thinking about fostering a dog

Over the time I've spent in college, I realized how much I miss having a furry friend. Lol maybe it's just me, but I'm currently taking 16 hours at a university and I'm not involved in any orgs or even extracurriculars that take up much, if any, time to be quite honest. I have a dog back at my hometown (hours away from where I am now) that I love with my whole heart, but he keeps my parents company since the house is an empty nest now. I'm also very aware that I shouldn't adopt a dog given being a full time student (I read that huge thread of adopting dogs in college and I whole heartedly agree), which is why I've been reading into fostering dogs, especially since some places pay for everything, but I just wanted to get some input. Can someone tell me what the application process is like, how your foster experience went, etc; TIA!
