I am not a dog-owner, never have been. Growing up at my childhood home, our neighbors throughout the years occasionally had dogs. Some of them I remember had humorously loud grunts when they played, a lady down the street had a dog with the same name as my dad so often we would hear her dog bark and her yell "SHUT UP my dad's name." Otherwise most neighborhood dogs were just there, sometimes barking hello if they were in a fenced in yard with nearby dogs.
I recently moved to a new neighborhood, and all of my neighbors have dogs. The house on either side of me, and across the alley (their yard is quite close to my house). Some have multiple dogs I think, they all constantly bark. Understandably when the dogs on either side of my house are outside they bark at each other. But even when just one home lets their dog out, they bark loudly and nonstop for 10-20 minutes until presumably they are let back inside. Is this.. normal? I've never heard dogs bark so frequently. Every time any of the dogs sense any kind of motion from me in my yard, they bark loudly and aggressively towards me. Have I just been blessed to live near quiet dogs my whole life or do I have shitty neighbors?
