Our Puppy [8 Months Old] is whining or crying slightly when getting up or being set down

We have an 8 Month Old Puppy (Hound/Beagle/German Shep) who has just recently started crying out briefly in pain on a few occasions. He weighs about 40-45 pounds.

1). When we return home, and he gets up out of the kennel he cries as if his legs hurt. He only cries briefly, and otherwise acts normal. (In this case, we are sure it is not his "legs falling asleep")

2). When we go to pick him up, he cries as we lift or set down, but seemingly as a result of a pain in his legs/paws. I can hold him or cradle him without him crying out further.

3). He has displayed a brief limp, on one of his back legs, but it seems to be largely inconsistent. As in, usually not present.

Further Details

  • For the most part, he acts normal. He still eats with gusto, and is still willing to play with his brothers. As an example, he still runs and plays outside (no crying then), but he may be a little more solitary/wants to left more alone when coming inside (although he's not completely wanting to be isolated).

  • We have checked him over for any issues or signs. I have stretched each of his legs/paws, massaged and pressured his hips, and checked his spine--with no crying out or negative reaction from him.

  • This has been going on for approximately two days now, so it's possible he just pulled something. Obviously we would love to take him to the vet, but financially that is impossible for us as we are also saving for a child that is on the way.

What do you guys recommend?
