Did I do the right thing rehoming my dog?

I adopted a mix puppy from the shelter in November to be our family dog. I have been a stay at home mom for 5 years and had plenty of time to spend with him until my husband would come home and play with him. He ended up being a big boy. His vet thinks he is pit bull/border collie, about 65 pounds and very tall!

We decided to get a second dog also to complete our family. Eventually it became clear my husband was unhappy. We finally decided mutually to get a divorce. Little did I know he was spending thousands and thousands of dollars and lying to me for the past 10 months. He started becoming verbally abuse so I removed myself, children and dogs from the home.

We have been staying with my parents for the time being. The dog has always been extremely active and needing a lot of play time. I have been struggling trying to care for two kids, two dogs and trying to work a little to make sure we are taken care of. I ultimately decided to rehome the dog.

My husband wanted to keep him but he works 9+ hours a day and I thought that would be extremely unfair for the dog to be stuck inside all day by himself. My sister’s boyfriends friend had been looking for a dog for some time and came over to meet him today. I swear the second my dog saw him it was like he was always meant to be with him. He basically didn’t even acknowledge me after that. I let him take him.

I’m sad because he is the first dog I have ever had as an adult. I just felt like I wasn’t giving him the life he deserved. Did I make the right choice?
