My old cat goes into the bathroom to yowl

My cat is a 13 year old male, not sure if Maine Coon or Forest Cat, and he is diabetic. For years now he finds the bathroom of whatever home I live in with him and will just go and yowl like he is dying. He does it maybe once a day at most with seemingly no regularity. I am convinced that he just likes the sound. He is not distressed or hungry or anything so far as I can tell. Hes old and diabetic so hes thinned and as of recently he has no more teeth but his yowling much older then any of that.

I moved in with some friends not long ago and my buddy has a male cat, and they hated each other at first, though his cat was kinda mean to everything. Now they spar. Like they bat and grab and nibble on each other. At first we thought they were attacking each other for dominance but after we realized that there is no claws no blood no screaming or hissing they are actually play fighting; something I didn't know male cats can continue doing well into adulthood. But now that they are buddies my roommate has told me hes caught his cat yowling also for no reason. I genuinely think my cat taught it to him. I bring up them sparring cause now when they are done my cat will go yowl in our bathroom, sometimes multiple times if they spar again and again. But hes not hurt at all just screaming for as far as I can tell for funsies.

The point of all of this is have you ever heard a cat just yowling for fun?
