I have my sweet cat that we’ve had since he was a few weeks old. His mother gave birth to him in our yard and we took him in and have had him for 4 years now.
Our cat has also had access to freely go outside sicne we live in a quiet residential area. He always begs to go out (cries at the door) and we let him out and he returns in an hour or at most the day after. He usually hangs around the yard or the block. He rarely uses his litter box for some reason.. she always begs to go outside after eating. We don’t let him out often when it’s cold, only in the summer/good weather.
The past 3 months, as soon as the weather turned nice, he’s been staying out MUCH longer. Rarely would he stay out for many days, but he all of the sudden would disappear for 3+ days.. then it became a week+... and most recently he has not returned to our home for 2 MONTHS!! And I am sad and we are all concerned.
But here’s the kicker.. we still see him in the neighborhood a couple of times the past 2 months: but as soon as he sees us and we call him and approach him he RUNS from us ??? Literally runs the other way. Sometimes slowly approaches us and then when we approach him he runs off!
This happened again tonight. My mom and my sister went for a walk and they saw him in someone’s yard. My mom went to get sardines to feed him and my sister went to pick him up and he RAN. The other night we found him digging through our garbage downstairs for food (but why when we always feed him and she knows we feed him well??!)
Can someone please help and explain what’s going on :(((( he’s a very affectionate cat and we treated her well
