Need advice on adopting an elderly cat with a crazy cat at home

Hello everyone!

I work at an animal shelter, and we just got in a cat that is estimated to be 18-20 years old. she is the sweetest, most beautiful cat I’ve ever seen, and as soon as our vet told me he strongly suspects kidney failure, I knew I had to take her home. So we’re running bloodwork and shooting some x-rays this weekend, and as long as she’s not suffering or is in pain (to the point where humane euthanasia is the only option), we will be adopting her.

So I know that I won’t have much time with her, and I’m okay with that, I just want her to live out the rest of her life comfortably. But the problem is, I have a large elderly bully and a huge cat that is almost a year old (both foster fails 😂), and they’re used to playing with each other. Salem, our cat, plays rough and when other cats tell him to stop, he only stops for a little while, before going back and terrorizing them again.

We’re expecting to keep Wednesday (the new lady) completely separated and she’ll stay in my mom’s portion of our apartment, but I was wondering if there’s any way my cat can learn to leave her alone and not pester her! I would love for her to be able to exist in the rest of the apartment without me having to separate her from my cat. he is 13 lbs (not fat, just long and muscular) while she is 7 lbs and very fragile. we have fostered many many times, dogs, cats, bottle babies and adults, and have gone through the whole slow introductions with closed doors and everything, but Salem is just playful with everyone and doesn’t seem to know his size or strength.

Sorry for the rant, thank you guys in advance :)
