Hello! First post here, don’t know if this has already been asked or if there’s a master thread on this or anything, so remove it if it’s not allowed!
Anyways
I’ve [22F] have grown up with cats all my life and have helped a bit with taking care of them. Of course, as I got older, I was helping less because I was living outside of my family’s house while in college. Fast forward to about a year ago, we (my roommates and I) brought in the cat that lived under our back deck in the house we rent. We’re pretty sure she’s a Maine Coon or a Maine Coon mix, and she’s maybe 4 years old. Real sweetie, a bit anxious though lol
Anyways, she has a litter box (duh) and my roommates and I take turns cleaning out her litter and everything, and I’m the only one that’s lived with multiple cats over the course of my life, another roommate has just had 1, another has lived with people that have had cats but has never had their own, and for the other, this is his first time living w/having a cat. We get clumping sliding litter for her and have a pretty sizable box for her and I have a few questions:
1) how much litter should we be using? Should it be a couple of inches since it’s clumping litter, or 3-4 inches. We get the 38lb boxes but since we’ve been doing what the box recommends we go through 76lbs of litter in a month and that doesn’t seem reasonable, especially for a single cat.
2) do we need to add more litter every time we scoop it? We scoop daily and my roommates add litter every time, which adds to our (I believe) over consumption of litter. I don’t because I think using 76lbs of litter a month is ridiculous.
I think those are all the questions I have actually lol! I change it completely every 2 weeks, scoop daily or every other day if it happens, etc.
Any advice would be helpful!! Thank u!
