My 1 year old male cat won’t take to my new male 3 month old kitten, advise me please on what to do about it
I know it’s early days yet but my 1 year old cat (Smokie) who is neutered and been the only cat in the household since I got him is giving me a hard time with my new British shorthair kitten which is male( Brody ) I got the kitten 2 days ago and all Smokie does when he’s in the same room as Brody is hiss and growl at him from a distance then walk off he wants absolutely nothing to do with Brody.
Brody is frightened of Smokie and will not approach him. Smokie is never an aggressive cat I have seen him with cats in my neighborhood all he will ever do is hiss growl and run away he never seemed to like other cats that much but that was only ever in passing. Also I have seen Smokie get on with cats in the neighbor hood on one or two occasions but that’s it really. Smokie is so bad now that if he smells Brodys scent off me he will growl and hiss at me . It’s very strange. Is this normal behavior?
Advise me what to do. I’m not an animal expert. Smokie is a house cat mostly he goes outside for a few hours a day maybe 3 or 4 but scratches at the door then to come in so spends rest of the time inside. I love both my pussys and don’t want their to be any problems I feel it’s gonna take Smokie a very long time to accept Brody but I won’t be giving up either of them. What is the right thing to do. Is smokies behavior normal ? To me his hissing and growling seems abit over the top as Brody doesn’t provoke or threaten him. Brody would just be looking at Smokie from about a 2 metre distance and Smokie will hiss and growl and eventually walk off he seems pissed off if anything
This really upsets me of course I knew they wouldn’t get on straight away but what shocked me the most is Smokie turning on me when he smelled the kitten off me. Smokie has always been well cared for and spoilt for all the attention. Slept wherever he wants . Could it be jealousy? Or territorial
