Please help - mum hates it when cats go on the table and she’s resorted to ridiculously loud noises to frighten them off

My family have three kittens (although they’re nearly a year old so they won’t be for much longer!) My mum absolutely hates it when they go on the counter and tables, and is determined to get them to stop. We tried water spray bottles for months but that didn’t work, so now she’s resorted to clapping, growling/hissing at them and banging pots and pans together right next to the cat so they get startled and jump off. Then she gives them a treat when they get down.

Them being on the table in the first place doesn’t really bother me, they’re cats after all and that’s what they do, but my mum hates it. The loud noises (when I say loud I mean really bloody loud) seem a little extreme to me as well as being disruptive to everyone else in the room (I have sensory issues and I hate loud startling noises, especially with no warning). My sister doesn’t like it too. They have a cat tower to provide an alternative space to climb, and they’re allowed in our garden as well so they have enough space to run around and do cat things, so I don’t think that’s what’s causing the issue.

Can you think of any alternatives to stop them going on the table? I’ve tried telling my mum that the loud noises upset me but then I got “well I’m in the house way more than you are so I get to deal with the cats how I like”. Any suggestions of alternatives?
