Why can dogs be left alone but kids can't?

I posted on another sub asking for advice about how to get around not being able to take my 1yr old Bichon somewhere and my husband will need to stay home with her. The commenters gave me flack for allowing our dog get in the way of doing stuff without her.

The current issue is that she is not spayed yet (but will be next month) and so daycares won't take her. There is only two in the city that I might trust, as is, let alone a random dog sitter.

Everyone tells me that I should just leave her in her kennel (no way she can be left about in the apartment) and she is able to left there for hours at a time. That dogs are just different from kids about that.

But I just don't see how. I use to think it was cringe how dog people compared their pets to human children but now I really get it. She's our baby, she isn't replaceable, she isn't disposable..we'd be just as devastated if she got hurt or died.

Although dogs advance quicker than children, they aren't fully independent like older children can be. And parents really try to leave their under 10 kids alone to work or run to the store all the time and could/do get in trouble although the kids are just watching tv.

But my dog doesn't have TV... how am I suppose to just stick her in a kennel for a whole night without any stimulation and just missing us the whole time? Bichon's are notorious for not coping with being left.

So how is she different in this aspect? Is it just that people value humans over animals? Or are dogs truly different in what they can handle?

I really want to know because I have so much anxiety about this issue.

My parents had a little dog that was full of energy and needed a lot of attention, they couldn't handle her. So they kept her locked up in a crate for the entirety of her life, only letting her out to potty, until she died. I'm not exaggerating. She died in there. So I have a lot of pain for that too.
