Hello, please don’t tear me apart as I know the normal decision is to spay your dog.
I have a 4yo female German shepherd who is never by herself.
Just some food for thought on the breeding topic as we are definitely not looking to breed her. she’s never left outside alone or in contact with other dogs unsupervised and when she is the other dog is fixed we only have a few dog friends she plays with, if some rando dog somehow got in our back yard it’s not like we wouldn’t know and resolve the situation as again she’s never left unsupervised also we have double layered fences so the event even occurring is highly unlikely.
It was never the plan not to spay her until right around 6 months (when you would start to think about it) her mother was spayed and died at 2yo due to complications during the procedure.
I am petrified to make a decision that could lead to that though am also petrified for her to end up getting pyometra. When I research both issues all I am reading is yeah both things can happen. People full of regret for bringing their dogs to get altered then receiving a phone call with bad news and people who didn’t alter wishing they had.
Obviously by the lack of alone time my dog has she’s my and my families world.
How to make such a decision? Does anyone have experiences they can share?
