Hi there,
If anyone can share some feedback,
My cat just turned four years old and had 2 obstructions unblocked (mucus plugs, struvites) at the ER 24 hours apart (I know, brutal). We opted to take him home the 2nd time, defeated that we would have to put him down after seeing him intensely suffer and wanted to spend one more night with him. The ER vet after the 2nd blocking unfairly pushed euthanasia without trying RX food on him, or giving us muscle relaxants for his spasms. We hadn't known anything about urinary blockages and were acting solely on professional advice. We spent the night reading up on reddit, the fees at that point were 3k for two catherization procedures to unblock and go. Fortunately, he came home energetic and playful, repeatedly eating and going to the litter. We asked for muscle relaxants and RX food after the second visit and he managed to finally pee that evening. Two days later we went to our own vet and had bladder checkup and x-rays done which showed no stones.
Currently, we are force feeding him (about a can of hills) and he goes to the litter peeing some marble sized urine 50% of the time. My concern is that he is EXTREMELY lethargic and weak... he will only get up to go to the litter. It has been eight days now since his last catherization and I would think that he would have a little less pain considering he is also on a lot of meds. I expected him to be a little bit more energetic as the days go by. His pee sizes have not increased, nor has his mood and energy levels. He is on gabapentin, prozasin and buprenephrine. Our vet says to take him in next week and as long as he is peeing. I am worried the 2nd time we took him back to the ER he was straining so hard it might have affected his kidneys. Is he not healing properly? What is the average period of rest post-catherization before cats return to their normal selves? If anyone can share some post procedural stories or information, please.
Thanks
