Hi, I’m new to this sub. Hope this is the right place to post.
I recently took in a cat from a friend of a friend. The person I got her from didn’t have any of the paperwork from when she adopted the cat because the shelter never gave it to her. I asked her about it and she’s trying to get it from them again. They were unresponsive when she first adopted the cat so she eventually gave up but is still trying for me which I appreciate.
My dilemma is I want to take her to a vet and get paperwork in my name/her an annual checkup appointment so I can make sure she’s up to date with everything and healthy. I was told she had all her shots when I got her and I believe that. However, I don’t have any proof. I’m concerned without it a vet would want to redo certain shots and it’d be unnecessary and more expensive.
Is there anything I can do regarding a vet appointment and not having that paperwork? Do I either just have to wait and hope we get a copy of the paperwork or accept I might need to redo shots she’s had but doesn’t need? Are those my only options or is there anything else I can do? How would a vet normally handle a cat with no proof of medical history? Could they maybe try to obtain it on my behalf?
Thanks and any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated
