Hello, I have a male kitten who is about 8 months old. I plan on having dogs as well in the future, and want to socialize my cat with other animals before it is too late. All encounters that he's had with dogs so far have not been great. The first pup was my parent's Shih Tzu; my cat was super scared and swung and hissed at him. Gradually, he started chilling out a little bit when he could observe from a distance and the dog was stationary. The second dog he's met was last week, and he was horrified. After a little bit of time he started approaching the dog when he was restrained again, and even went as far to calmly sniff him.
However, a little bit later he came out of nowhere and sneak attacked the dog- full battle mode, claws and all. It was honestly out of nowhere and the dog didn't even try to fight back or anything, my cat was just an asshole. I am really scared it's too late, and don't know where to start :( I also do not have a dog readily available to me to have them interact, unless I drive 2 hrs home to see my parent's dog. Any advice is welcome!!
