My Cat Got her Spay today and she keeps struggling to take off her cone

So my kitten got her spay/neutered, and shes 8 months old by the way. So She has the cone on but she keeps freaking out when trying to take it off so she ends up rolling around trying to kick it off. Is it safe for her to do this? How can I make her stop?

Its her first night home from the surgery and im worried she might tear her stitches, should i be concerned?

Chewy's Customer Service is...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Chewy's customer service is beyond the best.

I contacted them to inquire about where my cat food was. It normally shows up after about 2 days, and it had been 3 days. I saw online that it was delayed, so i was just curious as to why. I wasn't even in a position where I had ran out of food for my cats.

I wasn't complaining, I wasn't upset, just curious. Chewy's response was "we're sorry your cat food has not arrived. We will send you another box of cat food, free of charge."

I want to reiterate that I was not upset or anything, but Chewy is going above and beyond to make their customers happy. I offered to pay for the new shipment, but the representative said that that wouldn't be necessary. If there was any way I could donate money to Chewy, I would.

For as long as I have pets in my house, I will forever be using Chewy.com. I appreciate everything they represent and advocate anyone that isn't using Chewy to try them out for a month or two.

Thanks Chewy!

Help my dogs are fighting

So I have 2 60 lbs dogs. One (lulu) is 9 years old and has always been a bit moody. She doesn't like most other dogs and has a strong dominant personality. That being said she's a cuddle bug. The other dog (Frater) is just turned 5. They've alway gotten along well. They love wrestling and chasing each other around the house and in our mother in law's fenced yard. Lately though whenever Frater goes into any form of fight or flight Lulu attacks him. She goes for bighting his snout or his neck skin close to his ears and needs to be pulled off. Luckily Frater is pretty wrinkly and has a lot of loose skin there and the worst she's ever done is leave little scabs. She doesn't tare she just bites down and won't let go. Her trigger seems to be Frater's fight or flight. Whether it's him yelping from a small pain to him thinking he sees a bug or a shadow he wants to hunt down. She immediately starts growling tensing her mouth and body and before we even have time to react she goes straight for him. As far as we know they never fight when we aren't home (which isn't much) as I work from home, but it still seems weird. This has happened probably 4 times in the past month and so far we have tried to up the exercise and go for more walks. Which seemed to be working until tonight when Frater yelped getting off the couch and she attacked. We think his leg was asleep and he pulled a muscle jumping down. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Also they aren't ever toy aggressive or food aggressive.

Tl;dr: dog attacks other dog when it's scared, hurt, or chasing something.

Cat aggressive when changing little box

We only have one male cat and the litter box is changed daily. Only recently has our cat gotten aggressive towards me by scratching and biting me when I scoop the litter box. I'm male and when my SO, female, scoops, no issue. He is doing his business and doesn't seem to be constipated. Our cat is sweet most of the time. Any idea how to fix this?

Should I be worried about my cat.?

Okay so, we adopted a stray cat about four months back (just me and my husband) and today we had our friends over who have three kids, kitty has never had to deal with kids so obviously all the commotion stressed her out a little, not to mention we JUST moved. She got really skittish and jumpy and something (?) happened and she booked it the fuck down the hall and ran straight into a metal chair pretty hard. She’s been freaking out since, darting around like crazy, won’t let me touch her, meows like she’s in pain when I try to pick her up to comfort her.. I’m just getting really worried she might have hurt herself. What do you think.?

Should we get a different vet?

My husband and I have an eleven year old rat terrier. We adopted him about two years ago, and he has had skin problems nearly the whole time since we've had him. Itching, dandruff, hot spots, even infections. We have tried everything that we can think of! We have a vet that is well-esteemed in our area that he has been going to since we've had him. The first time we took him for skin issues they said he just had allergies, and gave us some prescription shampoo. We used it to no avail. The next time we went, they said they thought that he was getting bit by fleas and was allergic. This was despite the fact that we have him on flea prevention and had already treated him for fleas, even though we couldn't find any, at the suggestion of a friend.

The last time we went, they said he needed stronger flea prevention, and had an infection and put him on Bravecto, because they claimed that would stop him from even getting bit. They also put him on a one-month Rx for an anti-itch pill, and an antibiotic. We were still having problems, so my husband called them a couple weeks ago and they suggested adding allergy shots once a month. It's been two weeks since his first shot, and he's up-to-date on the Bravecto, yet he still has a ton of hot spots on his belly and is still constantly scratching.

Outside of the cash we've spent upfront at the vet, we've also tried switching his food, switching his shampoo, and we even put a recovery collar on him to try to discourage the gnawing for a while. We groom him on a regular basis, as well.

My husband and I disagree on what to do about this. I feel like we need to find a new vet, because it seems to me like they're just guessing and have no real interest in a legitimate diagnosis for the problem. Which wouldn't be as much of a problem if we hadn't already spent over $1K in the last year alone on his treatment, only for him to continue having ongoing issues. I feel like we're getting the runaround. My husband feels that it's an even worse idea for us to go to a different vet, because he thinks they will also just be guessing- either that, or they will run up another couple thousand in bills for diagnostic tests that might not even be effective.

What do y'all think? I'm so frustrated I just don't know what to do.

TLDR: Multiple vet visits and over $1K in vet bills in the last year, pet health issues still ongoing with no answers. Wondering if switching vets is reasonable or pointless.

How Do You Know When Your Pet Is Happy?

Id like this to be very general. I'm interested to hear any angle of any relationship anyone here has with their pets and keeping them thriving and happy.

Personally, I have a senior cat (17yo) who I adore, and as she's older and not as active as she was I find her mood harder to gauge sometime's, so I'm especially curious to hear from other senior cat owners. But really, any answer about any animal I think would be beneficial in general :)

The World’s First Smart Toilet For Dogs Has Arrived

Cleaning up after your dog is about to get a lot easier and not so smelly.

A Texas-based product design company claims to have created the world’s “first fully automated dog toilet.”

NB: All images and videos in this link: https://vetoway.info/the-worlds-first-smart-toilet-for-dogs-has-arrived/

Called the Inubox, it’s a self-contained toilet system that captures, processes and contains your dog’s waste.

Inubox is designed to look modern and minimalist, so that it blends in with the furniture in your bathroom or laundry room.

Newtons Box, the company behind Inubox, began a Kickstarter campaign for the device last week after showing it off at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

For users who participate in the Kickstarter campaign, they can get the Inubox for up to 42% off its expected retail price. The device is expected to ship out to consumers in November.

The firm said it’s designed for dog owners who may worry about their pet while they’re away from home, stuck in traffic on their commute or don’t want to let their pet outside during bad weather.

Of course, you’ll have to train your dog to use it first. According to the company, Inubox’s “attractive scent” is designed to lure dogs onto the platform so that they’ll mark their spot. It also uses positive reinforcement and releases a treat each time your dog uses it. Additional training methods may be needed, though, depending on your dog’s personality and behavior.

The sensors of Inubox detect waste on the platform and the device scoops it into an eco-friendly bag and releases air freshener to keep your home smelling clean.

Overall, the cleaning process takes about 8 minutes to complete.

To reinforce the dog using the system, Inubox deposits a treat after each use.

You can remotely activate the Inubox anywhere. Configuration, schedule setup and levels review are available on the mobile app.

HELP, i'm looking for a small pet rodent/reptile/fish/bird

Heya all! As the title says, I would like to get a pet that i can put on/next to my desk

I have been looking into all kinds of small animals that I could have as a buddy keeping me company!

We've looked into all kinds of pets : rats, ferrets, skinks, snakes, betta fishes, you name it! lots of pets i'd like to have but sadly can't due to a few reasons.

These reasons being :

  1. I live in a "dorm" (or rather just big house that got rented as such)
  2. Space is limited, so no big terrariums (even though i'd love to have one)
  3. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to reptiles, fish and birds
  4. I live a pretty sedentary life, I work on the computer most of the time (ofcourse I go for a walk atleast once a day!)

i've looked into cats and dogs as well, but sadly i'm allergic to cats and we already have a dog here :(

(the dog is a sweet bun, wouldn't hurt a fly, trust me, we have a little russkiy toy at home and she's scared of it)

I seem to be less allergic to cats than i used to be, judging from when I last visited my aunt and she has these lovely two cats, and it took about a day and a half before I actually got an allergic reaction from them and it was quite minor too.

Cost isn't an immediate issue, but i'd prefer to keep it to an affordable level.

I can provide more specific information if needed.

But anyways, all information regarding small pets and their habitats are welcome!

Thank you in advance!

Kitten won't let me trim her nails

My kitten is almost 8 months old, and I've had her for 4 months. She's pretty used to me. She's not a lap cat, but I figure she likes me enough so she follows me around. However, she absolutely does not, under any circumstances, let me cut her nails. The few times I've actually managed to do it has ended with me absolutely frustrated, and her...idk...annoyed? I've tried

  • purritoing her - she slips out of it.
  • bribing her with treats - she takes the treats and runs away, with me chasing after her in circles
  • trimming them when she's sleeping - she will immediately wake up as soon as I touch her paw and walk away
  • squishing her/holding her down - I don't like doing that because I don't want to injure her and it doesn't always work and she still manages to wiggle out
  • holding her in my lap upright - wiggles out

Over the last 4 months I've managed to trim her nails like...3 or 4 times total, and even then not all 10 claws. I would be happy with 7. Funnily enough she does not mind me trimming her back claws, it's the front ones she has an absolute aversion to even be touched. Her claws have grown now, and they get stuck in everything. If they didn't I wouldn't even be bothered but she is such an active girl I am afraid they will get stuck in something someday and cause a huge problem for her. Is there a trick or tip I haven't been able to figure out?

How does one go about reporting a neglect case for exotics, possibly illegally obtained?

Title pretty much says it all, but here is the backstory:

I have this friend who runs an exotic animal educational encounter/petting zoo type business. They're fantastic, great with the animals, will always put them first and will remove from a show the minute an animal shows any sign of stress, etc. They aren't the problem here.

They made a deal with a very well known vendor in the exotic animal industry (I won't mention a name, but they are well known at reptile shows) to purchase and pick up an exotic animal.

When they got there, they saw how horrible the conditions the poor animal was in. Lived in a tiny cramped cage, severely underweight, malnourished, improper diet, open wounds etc.

The animal's "vet" hasn't even seen this species in a year when they checked.

The vendor that was selling the animal doesn't know how it was actually obtained prior to them getting it, they suspect illegally imported. Regardless- the condition it was in while at the vendor was horrible, and the vendor had it for a year.

They (the good educational encounter person) still purchased the animal because all they wanted to do was save the poor thing. The animal is now in great hands and is undergoing rehabilitation, on the road to recovery.

Bottom line is, we would like to see action taken on the vendor. What are the steps we would need to take? Should they get a lawyer involved? Is there someone they can send to do a through surprise investigation?

Is there a chance that the purchased animal will be taken away? (the state they're in is legal for this species ownership, they've done all the research on that prior). Is there a chance that anything will happen to the good educational encounter people?

It may also be worth noting that the animal in question is not endangered, and is on the Least Concern list- but still very exotic.

Thanks for the read and I'm hopeful for good input.

Cat vs Cat - Fight night

Humorous title, I know. But it gets serious.

My family has two cats. One, which is an inside cat. Her name is Jane, and we had her longer (about 4-5 years). She is usually calm and just sleeps all day. She resides in our basement. The next cat, which we found outdoors recently (had her for about 5-7 months). She was abandoned from her owners, so I took her in. Her name is pumpkin. She resides upstairs in my room. We have the basement door shut during the day, and have my room shut at night (so it's a day/night roam shuffle between the two).

Anyways, Pumpkin the outdoor cat is usually a bit aggressive. Whenever she sees Jane, Pumpkin will attack right away. Jane doesn't attack unless she's defending herself. Pumpkin always tries to hurt her, and I try my best to keep them from seeing each other. There are some instances where Pumpkin has gotten downstairs to the basement and just lays in another kitty bed, while Jane is higher on top of a table. But whenever they get close, they will go at it.

This has become such a HUGE problem, because these cats are really awesome. My dad said if Pumpkin keeps attacking her we are going to send her to the SPCA. I really cannot do that.

Reddit, what should I do? I always thought about removing her claws so she's not so harmful.

My 13yo ShihTzu has a heart murmur. I'm dreading the diagnosis. Is there hope?

My vet says it's stage 3 out of 6. He's getting checked on Monday for the official analysis.

I could use something positive to consider right now, as it's been really hard thinking about the possibilities. I dread the idea of losing my best friend, as he's been the anchor in my dealings with depression throughout my adult life. :(

I love my cat BUT he's super needy when I work at the computer and I can't get stuff done.

Hey all, so I have two cats [brother and sister, 2.5 years old] who I love dearly. They get along really well; they sleep, cuddle, and play together. Both very friendly and affectionate, I'm lucky!

However, the male cat is incredibly needy, to the point where it's hard for me to focus on work. I work from home a lot, and whenever I'm at my computer he jumps up on my desk or on top of the computer case, and sometimes steps on the power button turning off my computer in the middle of work. Or, he gets up in my face and demands attention.

I've tried a spray bottle, telling him no, moving him with no emotional reaction... he *always* gets back up in my space and doesn't seem content to just be in the room with me. If I put him in the nearby bedroom, he cries and scratches at the door for hours.

Whenever I'm not working he's next to me or on my lap, which is great, but he just never gets enough attention it seems. Any suggestions? I love him to pieces but it's to the point where I sometimes avoid work out of stress of handling his neediness.

Quality of life for cat?

I have a 4 year old female cat named Holly. She's had a lot of health issues in the past few years.

She developed urinary problems from stress so shes on calming medication, as well as urinary food. Shes also on the diet portion as she is over weight. This is well handled, hasnt been an issue in awhile.

She has severe asthma, to the point where she doesnt play at all, which we are currently treating with steroids but will be trying an inhaler soon.

Shes been acting very off today, taking her to a vet this afternoon, but by the way shes acting and how she's hovering over her water dish I'm thinking its diabetes or kidney problems.

If it is one of the two, how do I know what her quality of life is? If she only had one issue I would obviously be okay treating it, but she's had so many problems, I dont want her on daily meds, inhalers, and injections/kidney medications. What would you do in this situation?

What should my new pet be?

As a disclaimer, I do plan on going through a rescue for whatever pet I get.

I currently have a 7 year old cat that I love very much, but being the animal enthusiast that I am, I want more. I have grown up with all kinds of animals and work with wildlife, so I am not concerned about difficulty of care, my concern is a pet that fits my lifestyle and not too high in cost. So I cannot afford a horse for example.

I am away from home for 11 hours, 5 days a week for work. I also have a small child who is used to being around all kinds of animals. I own my house so problems with what is allowed is not an issue. My main issue is my time and cost.

I debate on a dog, but in order to get a dog, i would obviously need a dog walker and the cost associated with that on top of typical vet bills, heartworm meds, food etc, I wonder if it is a bit much right now. As badly as I want one, i wonder how fair it would be to the dog for me to only be home a couple hours before going to bed during the week and only able to do much on the weekends. Though my child LOVES playing with dogs. I am not a fan of small dogs though. I prefer shepherds, Rottweilers, Malamutes, etc. I am used to these large breed dogs.

I may get another cat. They are easy and cuddly. I think regardless, I might get a second cat, but I also want another type of pet. I have considered fostering older cats as well. I love cats very much, but I already have one and while like I said, i will probably get another one anyway, but I want a different type as well.

I am also thinking of a ferret. I have never had one, but had friends who have. Their biggest gripe with them was the smell. For me, I think these would be great except the their need for constant supervision when they are roaming around and I am tired from work. I could ferret proof a room, i do have a whole room not being used for anything. My concern with them is time for them to play while having to be careful of what they get into. I couldnt bare the thought of one dying because they opened a drawer or something. Any advice on a ferret and getting around these concerns would be appreciated so I can make the best choice.

The other pet I am considering is sugar gliders. I have done a ton of research on them, though I never owned one. I figure they sleep while I am at work and I can care for them while I am at home in the evenings. I think it would be awesome to have them, and I think they would fit with my busy schedule. My house is pretty calm and quiet. I could even take them to work after bonding with them. I work in an offce that is pretty quiet and no one would mind them being there with as small as they are. They would sleep anyway and the place is pretty quiet. However, my concern with them is ongoing costs to maintain a proper diet. I havent owned one and am not sure how the cost of their diet compares to a cat or dog overtime and same goes for any vet costs since they are exotic. I can handle vet bills, food, toys, etc for your cats and dogs, but not sure if these would cost more. I also don't know how they behave and have seen different answers. Like do the bite? Are they playful? Are they chill and cuddly?

I am open to other ideas. I have also considered setting up an enclosure for a fox, i have plenty of space for one, but I think that will be when i have more time. The pets I listed are the ones I am considering. What do you guys think?

I’d like to get a new pet

Hello r/pets, for almost my entire life I have had at least one pet. Me and my family currently own two cats who I love dearly, but I miss having one smaller, extra pet and would love to get one.

I am currently 17 years old and my mom said I can get a new pet if it doesn’t take up too much space or make too much noise (something like a reptile or a night rodent).

I do have some specifications though. I don’t have an extreme amount of free time and space. So something like a bunny is a no-go since they’re very social and will feel lonely, and I can’t get two of them either. But I do want something that I can kind of play with, if you get what I mean. I don’t just want a fish to look at or something like that.

So I would love to get some advice/recommendations from you for a pet that doesn’t make a lot of noise, doesn’t take hours per day to take care of, doesn’t feel lonely easily, doesn’t take up a whole lot of space and that I can kinda play with. Thank you in advance!

P.S.: if the best choice in the end would be to not take a pet at all then just tell me that!

Edit: I would even consider taking insects, because they are very interesting despite just being able to look at them.

Advice On Rehoming Rare Aquatic Turtles

I have two young and healthy Pink Belly Sideneck turtles, a relatively new species to the pet market. Due to unforeseen circumstances I can no longer care for them properly. I know you can sell or give away pets on sites such as Craigslist, but these guys deserve a good environment and I'm skeptical to go that route. Has anyone heard of different methods to rehome pets such as these? I've been in the process of contacting exotic pet stores and even the local aquarium but haven't heard much yet.

What could be the cause of this behavior?

He isnt standing on one leg. Both of his legs are on the ground but one is pushed to the side

Question about kitten that don’t eat his food.

Hello, we adopted a 5 month old kitten not long ago and everything was fine until this morning. We found out that he did not eat anything at all during the night. Our kitten whont eat his food. He literally just push it away with his paw. He like the food of our older cat. They are bigger dry nibbles. We know its not good for him to eat. So i tried to put some in his food to see if he will eat both of them but he only eat the adult one. He barely ate today. We could give him canned food but does a 5 month old need special canned food or one from the store are okay?

I used to be a highly rated pet-sitter on the site, had repeat client bookings, etc. I always gave A+ care to the clients I had, including going above and beyond in several cases where the animals had special needs.

All of a sudden, out of the blue my profile has been deactivated entirely and the 'customer service' has been giving me the run-around, accusing me that I am taking cash payments (which I have not been doing).

After doing some digging, I have found that this has also happened to hundreds of other established pet sitters as well. Not to mention that for pet owners, Pawshake has REPEATEDLY denied insurance coverage that owners pay for, when the pets have gotten legitimately sick while their owners are away.

The owners of Pawshake only care about taking that 19% chunk of change they take from bookings through the site (while doing zero work to earn that money, might I add.)

You are better off asking your vet or some trusted friends for a personal recommendation for a pet-sitter. Don't give your money to these vultures.

Questions on homemade pet food

I have a Pitbull mix(Otis) and a little asshole of a cat(Geralt). I was wondering if anyone on here had any suggestions on where to start with homemade pet food for them both. Geralt will eat any and every thing but Otis seems really bored with his food lately and I change it up pretty often but he still isn't super interested in it. I want to start making them food with real beef, chicken, fish, etc. but I don't really know where to start with it all. If you guys have any tips or suggestions I'm all ears!

Pet quaker parrot weird head movement

Hello, over the last few days my quaker has been making a strange head movement followed by beak scraping. it looks almost like she is trying to regurgitate but from a side, direction moving back towards the centerline of her body. she has no other strange symptoms. but it always follows after chewing lightly on her right foot. wondering if anyone that knows if its something to be concerned about.

I will post a video if I can get it of doing it.

My cat is excessively clingy and annoying after spay surgery over a week ago & wont let us sleep at night.

I recently took my 2 year old cat to be spayed last week. Everything went great and she was fine with no issues whatsoever, however it has been a little over a week now and we have never seen her act like this. She is constantly howling and scratching the bedroom door making it impossible to sleep at night. Before her surgery she was fine sleeping on the couch or in her bed in the living room, but ever since she got the surgery, it has been a complete nightmare where I've only been getting less than 4 hours of sleep because she will NOT stop. It goes on until the morning and the afternoon until we let her in. I refuse to let her in the room because she will have the zoomies and run around the bedroom at 3 in the fucking morning. We have tried everything from putting double sided tape on the door, foil paper and even barricading the door with boxes, laundry baskets etc. She will still find her way to jiggle the door knob and continue to scratch. I don't know what to do at this point. I love my cat however she has been a complete fucking PSYCHO since being spayed & I just want to sleep.

I think I’m losing my best friend

A couple nights ago I was going to sleep and I asked my dog to move and he started growling every time I would move the blanket under him he would snap and bare his teeth. My dad ended up yelling at him and hitting him and he started acting better for a few days. But tonight he stopped listening and actually bit my dad. He has never acted like this to us and am scared something is wrong with him. Does anybody know how I can mend our bond. If it helps he is a 7 year old chihuahua mutt.

Looking for some advice on ringworm/staph on a cat.

Hey guys! We adopted a kitten a few days ago from a local rescue that was pretty banged up. He had recently been hit by a car, but is recovering well and is the sweetest little boy. Unfortunately, about 24 hours after we got him home we noticed a hairless patch on the side of his bum that was pretty dry and flaky. The fur on his lower back is shaved from when they amputated his tail but is growing back. I called his foster at the rescue to question if they’d noticed this, but was reassured that they had probably just cut a deep mat out of his fur there and that it was no big deal (also mentioning that he “definitely hadn’t been exposed to ringworm”). We took him to the vet as soon as they were open and the vet also told us that she didn’t think I was ringworm, but that it was more than likely a staph infection, due to the fact that the spot didn’t seem to bother him. I can’t help but feel concerned however, especially considering that everyone who sees it tells me immediately that it definitely has to be ringworm. She also provided us with antifungal drops to treat a fungal infection in his ears and told us we could put a little on the bald patch if it would make us feel better. We’ve isolated him from our two other cats while we wait for the results to come back, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with something like this. Is there anything specific I should look out for that could differentiate between staph and ringworm? Should I begin a lime dip regimen just to be safe? Any help or advice is appreciated!

Sick kitten

My 6 month old kitten has been vomiting all day. Like 10+ times and some of it has had a pink tint to it. He’s just laying around now. He has a vet appointment in the morning but I’m wondering if I should take him to the emergency vet tonight. What do you all think ?

I don’t have a lot of money and it’s 9 degrees out right now so I really don’t wanna go unless it’s an emergency but I also don’t want my cat to die.

Looking for Good Cat Bowl, Need Slow Feeder Suggestion

We'd prefer dishwasher compattiable, and also safe for microwaves. Luna is having issues with eating way too fast. We need a bowl that makes her take time to eat (Not one of those slow release dry food dispencer. We want a good slow feeder bowl that she has to slowly eat around.) Shes a big girl, and very food motivated. She gorges herself on dry and wet food and throws up a lot after meals.

Pet Owner Etiquette in Apartments

I'm wondering if I am the only one who runs into this while taking your dog out to do it's business in an apartment complex. We have recently moved into this new apartment complex which has a dog park. Our dog is a little over 1 so high energy and he's a golden about 70 lbs. He loves people and dogs so when he sees them he tries to jump up and run over to them which just doesn't work out. I never know if the dogs are friendly and never want to freak out the owners. I try to take my dog in an area away from others so he will go and not freak out. Owners see me walk deliberately away from them but then they turn and walk their dog somewhat near me. And they just stop with their dog and just stare and don't say anything to me. I've been attempting to train my dog but sometimes it's just too much for him so he starts jumping trying to play with the dog. I'm usually the one to say, " alright I'm going to walk him this way" and start walking away. This isn't just some random occurrence but I've run into this situation a handful of times with different owners. Has this happened to others? Thoughts on how I can politely say "stay the f away"?

Selective allergy to cats?

Hello,

I was allergic to cats, as in sneezing and itchy eyes only. Got a cat 12 years ago, first week was rough but I developed immunity to the allergy since then.

Two days ago I pet my cat as usual and noticed my hand had swollen. I never experienced any kind of skin allergy before. I let it slide and today gave my cat a kiss behind the ears (something I have been doing for years without a problem) and my upper lip is all swollen now.

I tried to pet my cat in all possible places and ways to see if I could pinpoint the problem, but had no reaction again whatsoever.

Could it be some specific area that is giving me that reaction? If so I dunno how it just started to happen now.

Another possibility I can think of is maybe some flea or such but I didn't notice any bite on my skin neither coudl find any on my cat.

Has anyone experienced something similar to this before??

EDIT: I have also been fighting against a flu this week, maybe my body was weak and reacted to it?

Antioxidant for Pets!

So, I just started using this new product from a company called Pure Bella Pets and my dogs (Sumo & Sam) seem to really like it. I just mix it in their dog food and they gobble it all up. I hate giving them supplements and vitamins to both of them because they find ways not to drink it, but with this one so far so good. I also noticed their fur is fluffier and shiner.

So according to their website their supplements and treats have this thing called Carbon 60 and it helps their general health. if you wanna learn more about it click this link or this video.

You can follow them on Instagram and Facebook as well. I'll post pictures of my babies after a month of using them (hopefully I remember)

I just wanted to share my recent find!

Mourning an old friend

8 years ago me and my older sister bought two female baby red eared sliders from the flea market. We were told not to expect them to live more than a year at best. Due to life things both turtles ended up living with me and my girlfriend at the time. One of them (Whiz Khalifa) was aggressive towards anything and everything but me, including her sister (Gucci Mane; she actually lost half of a foot to Whiz at one point, which led to them being placed in separate tanks) who became very close to my girlfriend at the time. After 5 years me and her split up, and I decided it was in Gucci's best interest for her to stay with my ex.

It's been 3 years since then and Whiz is doing well, but I just got a message on Facebook from my ex saying that last nite Gucci passed away. I dont even know what to do or how to react. She has no idea what happened; says she was kept in good living conditions, was acting normal yesterday, but today she woke up and Gucci was no longer alive.

I just want to hold Whiz and cry but she hates being held so I'll have to substitute that with allowing the dog in the bed because dammit I need someone to cuddle with me. I said a prayer for her (I'm not religious but I have my beliefs) and know that shes up there in turtle heaven, but none of this helps. I feel like I've lost my best friend despite the fact that I havent seen her in 3 years.

Anyway, thanks for reading and also sorry if you did. Just needed to share this with someone outside of my sister and (current) girlfriend. She was a great turtle, always happily swimming and on the rare occasion that she was fed feeder fish, viciously hunting. You will be dearly missed Gucci.

How to stimulate a bored cat?

My 8 year old kitty used to be an indoor-outdoor cat, but since we moved house, she's had to stay inside full-time due to the amount of coyotes in the area. She's quickly become really antsy. While she has toys available to her 24/7, she keeps trying to expel her excess energy by play fighting with our much older cat, who is not impressed by the situation at all.

I was wondering if there were any ideas as to how to keep our younger cat amused while keeping the aggravation towards our senior cat at a minimum.

Thanks in advance!

My cat is scared of one of my flatmates

My cat is the sweetest thing you could imagine, he's very cuddly and warms up to strangers quickly, whether they pay attention to him or not. To make this easier I'm gonna call him C. In April 2018 we got a new flatmate, let's call him M. Now while M has never been someone you would like to live with, we dealt with it and made it almost to a year. C didn't interact with M a lot, but he also didn't dislike him, played with him every now and then and let himself be pet by M a little.

For about 8 days now, C stops whatever he ist doing when he hears M and bolts into my bedroom when he sees him. He interrupts even eating and cuddling with someone. C has never reacted like this to anyone except one cat-hating dog who chased him while barking (and even then he only ran, when the dog had noticed him. He was still laying on the couch until the dog came too close). When something falls down or someone sneezes, C is scared of the sound and runs, but he comes back fairly quickly and doesn't seem to connect the sound to someone around it.

Because this behavior is so unlike him, I'm afraid that M did something that caused C's fear. I've talked to M about this and he swears nothing happened (no sudden sounds that could've scared him, he didn't accidentally step on his tail, etc). Also.. I'VE stepped on C's tail before by accident (as have my other flatmates) and while he did run off for a bit he was back a few seconds later like he knew that it didn't happen on purpose.

As C seems to be really tense I'm concerned that this living situation is too stressful for him..

People giving away their pets at big tech companies... makes my heart sick

I work for one of the big tech companies which allows dogs to the workplace. I’ve noticed on multiple occasions that there are folks who get dogs just to “fit in”. But then, there’s a dog distribution list where equal number of people are giving away their pets because they are unable to give it “the care it needs”. We literally just got an email today from some moron saying:

“My dog is a very friendly, happy and amazing pup. We got him as a pup when he was 3 weeks old and 3 years later, there’s not a dull day with him. He has been given the best training over the first year of his time with me. He is very obedient and respectful. Does great off leash on an electronic collar. I am unable to keep him as active as he needs to be, so I’m looking for a loving family that can give him all the attention he needs”

I looked up who this person was, and she seems like in her 30s. It’s really really despicable that people want to give their pets away when it suits them. If they are really part of your family, wouldn’t you try your best to make it work?? Otherwise, don’t keep a pet. Just like you shouldn’t have kids if you can’t afford to, don’t keep pets if you think they are disposable toys.

I’m so mad right now. #rantover.

Sweet Cat Turned Aggressive... HELP (long post)

Hey all. I'm a first time poster here, and am in desperate need of advice.

My husband and I adopted a cat about a month and a half ago. She was a stray before being brought to the shelter. She's a year old, and up until a week ago was the sweetest, gentlest little cat. She's always been a bit nervous, especially with loud noises, but generally very sweet toward us and toward visitors, even letting my friends pick her up and snuggle her. She was even nice at her first vet visit. And then, something happened.

I had a lady over (who kitty has met before and was fine with) and she decided, for no reason, to demonstrate the sound her cats make when in heat. My cat absolutely lost it. Attacked the lady without warning, came at my leg, and howled at the top of her lungs. She looked so scared, like she was fighting for her life. This episode only lasted about a minute, and kitty was back to normal. Rubbed her head up on me, went and licked the lady she attacked. Then the next day, my aunt and grandmother (who kitty has also met) came to visit, and she hissed at them any time they came near her.

She was completely fine after that, and I figured she had gotten over whatever was going on. And then yesterday, she attacked my husband and me, scratching and hissing and growling, seemingly set off by the upstairs neighbor's son shouting. Again, it didn't last long, but was quite vicious. My husband went to work a couple hours later, so I had my mum over for dinner. A little background info - this cat ADORES my mum. The very first time kitty met her, she curled up and fell asleep on her lap, and she's done so every other time she's visited. But last night she attacked mum every chance she got, hissing and swatting, again without warning. She wouldn't even let her walk past without hissing. It was so bad we had to leave the apartment.

Again, this morning, she went for my husband (we think she was upset by the sound of the coffee maker), hissing and scratching.

The past week has been really hard on me, as I absolutely adore this cat and thought I'd found my perfect feline match. What the heck happened? Has anyone else experienced this type of thing? Any tips for how to keep myself and kitty happy and safe? I really want to try everything I can to make this work for us.

Tl;dr: sweet, affectionate kitty I adopted last month was traumatized by a very loud visitor, and now is attacking everyone who visits and sometimes us.

Nervous about hypoallergenic cats. Advice?

I have cat and dog allergies, both fairly mild, but the cat ones are bad enough that they make my eyes water and whatnot. In a few months I'll be living in my own place and wouldn't mind getting a pet. I've had hypoallergenic dogs (all poodles) and they never bothered me. I've read up on hypoallergenic cats and it sounds like any number of short hair ones could work, but I'm really nervous about getting one and then finding over time that it still triggers my allergies to some degree. Can that happen? Are there hypoallergenic breeds with a higher/lower chance of that happening? Any advice on this would be hugely appreciated.

Quick question about cat hygiene

I live in Florida and have battled fleas with my young cats for about 3 months. It’s finally under control now.

They seem to be used to the almost daily brushing with the flea comb and warm soapy water. They will lead me to the bathroom and hop up on the counter and sit down by the sink, so I can tell they want some “brushy brushy” (lol don’t judge me).

I’ve never tried to give them a bath before, like fully submerge them and get them wet. I have tried the waterless bath, which is essentially foam that soaks in and you rub them dry with a towel. They definitely hated every second of that.

So is fully bathing them like that really necessary? They’re indoor cats anyway, so is just regularly brushing them with soap and water effective enough? They will let me brush them anywhere, and I think they like it because it’s warm and they don’t get soaked, just a little damp to where their fur is spiky.

Pain in dogs chest when attempting to pick up?

About 2 days ago, my mom and I came home from shopping, and our dog odie started limping and yelping. When we barely touched his leg, he would yelp and cry like a baby. After a few hours, he didn't seem to feel pain when we touched his legs, but just last night, we figured out he had pains in his chest when we tried to pick him up. We think he may have fallen off this reclining chair that was rather high off the ground, and a chair which odie liked to sit on. It was the tallest thing in the house, and had a very narrow spot for sitting on. If he did fall, and if this pain continues, should we take him to the vet? P.S. He is a rather old dog (11, turning 12 in February) so it may be him getting old, but that probably wouldn't explain the limping.

Why does my cat steal my stuff and put it in his water bowl?

My cat puts his toys in the water bowl, which I can kind of understand I guess. But why does he steal other random stuff and put it in there? Pens, socks, hair clips, any small item. He doesn't play with the stuff either, so I don't think he's trying to put his toys in a safe place (as some internet articles say). He just carries random things to the water dish, puts it in, leaves it there, and seemingly forgets about it forever. I have to declutter his bowl every day so that he has room to drink.

What is going on in his weird cat brain? Why does he see a sock and think, "Man, I need to go dunk this in my water bowl ASAP."

A little while ago I was looking at one of my 14 year old cats and started to worry what would happen to them when this moment happens. They cant go with my mother, I have no idea whats going to happen with me. And I sure as hell wont put them in a shelter. They have been indoor cats their whole life and they are old. Maybe its best that I put them down.. I dont know. Well that was only a month ago and yesterday I had to put one of them down. Cancer. Ive been crying ever since it sunk it that this was something I was going to have to do and I feel heartbroken for my other cat. It wont be long until he starts to wonder where his brother is. :-(

It's gonna be cold in the Midwest! Here are some ideas to keep your pets warm!

So, since it's gonna be cold, here are some steps to help your furred family members! Make them boots and coats to wear outside, if you have to have them outside (seriously, this is really only acceptable in this weather if it's a feral cat that you can't get to come inside for shelter), make them a warm shelter.

Booties: https://www.instructables.com/id/10-Minute-Dog-Boots/ (you don't have to use fleece, you can substitute for what you have available.

Coat: https://makezine.com/2009/09/03/how-to_dog_coat_from_a_recycle/ (you can use a sweater instead of a coat)

Shelter: https://www.neighborhoodcats.org/how-to-tnr/colony-care/feral-cat-winter-shelter (plastic barrels, plastic storage bins, and cardboard boxes can all work in a pinch, and blankets, especially fleece work well if you can't get straw)

Hope this helps some people! Stay warm and stay safe! Drive carefully and dress warmly if you have to go out!

Former outdoor cat won't pee in his box...please help!

Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I recently rescued a stray cat. He has been taken to the vet, vaccinated, and is in great health now. He is happy, well loved, well fed, and played with frequently. He shows very little interest in returning back outdoors.

But he won't pee in his box, and it's driving us crazy. We've been trying to solve this problem since we got him almost three months ago. His litter box used to be in the bathroom, but he would rarely pee in it. He has no issue with pooping there, however. He would only pee in the upstairs hallway. There used to be two cats living here before we moved in...I'm not sure if this area smells like them or is just the spot he's chosen. We changed litter, and that helped for a few days, but then it was back to peeing in the hall. I got a Nature's Miracle Keep Off Spray and doused the hall in it....it helped for a few days, but then it was back to peeing in the hall. Each time he does, I scrub it with Pet Stain Resolve, and then a citrus cleaner. I wash the walls with a citrus cleaner too. He is still peeing in the hall. We next tried moving his box up to the hall where he pees, and it's been there for over a month. Again, it worked for a few days, and then it was back to peeing in the hall.

His box is scooped twice a day at this point and cleaned regularly. Today my boyfriend picked up a litter attractant, I put down pee pads where he likes to pee so at least it won't keep ruining the carpet, and we got another new, now unscented, litter, as well as more no-pee spray.

Is there something else we can do? The articles I'm finding online haven't helped, I think because of his outdoor history. It doesn't appear to be a medical issue according to our vet. I have a hunch that since he was outside for so long, he isn't used to needing to pee in the same spot. But I hate the idea of needing to let him back outside...we live half a mile from a highway and near two pretty busy roads. He's a smart cat, but it makes me nervous, and I would feel irresponsible letting him out. (It's worth noting, though, that he does seem to hang out near the door when he has to pee. It's the only time when he seems to want to go out.) Do we just keep at it? Is there a stronger carpet cleaner I can use?

Has anyone taken in an outdoor cat and had this problem? We love him so much but this is a huge point of frustration for both of us. I don't want the house to smell like pee. I don't want the cat to have to go outside. I am at a loss, and the end of my rope. Please, if you have any advice at all, I'm open to it!

Thanks in advance everyone!

Edit to add: His litter box is large sized, and we recently removed the lid in case it was a size issue. The XL litter box runs for about $50 at our local pet store and we're hoping that isn't the problem, since again, he poops in there just fine. He also does seem to know he's supposed ot go in his box...he gets frustrated and sprints around the house before he goes. He seems annoyed with the situation too.

Dog might be coughing up blood?

Hi all, I’m going to take my dog (small chihuahua) to the vet today because I’m worried she’s coughing up blood, but I’m wondering how to get the right tests done. I have never seen her cough up blood but she sleeps in bed with me and I’ve noticed a few dried blood droplets on the sheets (I’ve checked and I don’t seem to have any cuts or anything on my body or hers). She is still very active and seems unbothered, coughs here and there but usually only after eating too fast. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a specific test I should ask to be run?

Checking stray cat for microchip - 7 years later?

Sorry if this is not the right subreddit. So I have had a cat in my family for the past 7 years, she came to our porch on a stormy night and was rather friendly. The next few days she hung around much more so my family took her in as a inside/outside cat. We've moved a few times and taken her with us in the moves.

Last year I became an adult, moved out, and "inherited" all my family pets. Now I am planning to take our dogs to get updated vaccines for apartment requirements and this cat hopefully to get her vaccinated but also to scan for a microchip, since my parents never did for many years. My question is if they find a microchip will I face some repercussions since it has been so long? If so, what do I do?

Why does my roommate's cat keep peeing on our clothes?

First off, thanks for reading this post.

My roommates and I all have cats, and one cat, Milo, has this one problem. He keeps peeing on clothes that just belong to me or my significant other.

Milo and his owner live in the basement area of the house, but he did also live upstairs for a bit. He has lived in this house before and is very comfortable here. He also gets along with all the cats and people living here, and is very well adjusted.

However, this is a continuous problem that I can't figure out how to fix. Milo comes upstairs to visit during the day, and can travel up and down freely.

For some reason, he only pees on the clothes that myself and my significant other may leave on the floor for a bit, and he has even peed on my slippers before. My other roommates leave clothes on the floor all the time, and he doesn't pee on them. Since this is selective, I'm certain it isn't a health issue, as he uses the litterbox fine.

Does anyone have an idea of why he's targeting our clothes in particular, and what we can do to stop it?

Dog limping when she gets up, but limp disappears after she’s been active for a while

First let me say I am definitely going to take my dog to the vet to get this checked out - no need to advise me to do that. I’m just curious if anyone else has encountered something similar.

For a couple of days now, my three year old kelpie cross has been showing a bit of a limp, but only when she gets up from having laid still for a while. After she’s been up and about for a few minutes, the limp gradually disappears and she seems perfectly fine. I can’t see any kind of wound or bruise on her paw, and she doesn’t seem to be in pain even while she’s limping - it’s almost as though her leg has just stiffened up while she was lying down and exercise sets it right again.

Anyone had anything similar with one of their pets, or have any idea what the problem might be? I plan to make a vet appointment tomorrow, but anything you can give me to think about in the meantime would be appreciated. (Last time I took her to the vet was because she wasn’t holding her tail right and it turned out to be because my cat had bitten her and it got infected - hoping this one isn’t another cat bite!!)

How to keep dog’s from being destructive with their toys?

My dog (golden retriever) has an issue with destroying every toy he gets and will end up eating them all if you don’t catch it in time. There’s not an “indestructible” toy on the market that he can’t get through. I’ve tried them all. (Kong’s have to have chunks taken out, tennis ball’s have to have every fiber of hair ripped off, stuffed animals can’t have any legs, arms, tags, or cotton stuffing).I bet if you gave him enough time this guy could take a chunk out of steel. Barely joking.

I’ve gotten to the point where I’m just done buying him toys because he can’t be kept alone with it for 5 minutes.

Any advice?

Qualities Of A Good Small Dog Harness

Qualities Of A Good Small Dog Harness

The Bulldog was categorized as a breed as much back as medieval times. Created in Great Britain for its tenacity and power to attack and kill bulls in the arena, it has subsequently developed, via selective breeding, in to the affectionate and loyal dog cherished by so numerous owners today.

Finally, harnesses, while not actually a canine collar, are utilized for the same purpose as collars, securely strolling your dog. dog harness es are designed to wrap about your canines chest and ribcage, which prevents your dog from choking when he pulls. They also arrive in a selection of styles and sizes to match all canines. The very best harness on the market today is the front clip dog collar personalised. This harness works by stopping your canine from utilizing his upper body muscle tissues to pull. I highly recommend the entrance clip canine harness for these canines that are difficult to walk.

Regarding spending budget, the vast majority of little dog harnesses are in the $20 variety. If you're willing to spend more, you will obviously have much more options. A high quality leather-based harness for a small canine and some padded dog harnesses will be beyond the $20 price stage. A simple nylon harness can be well below $20.

So what kinds of issues can we do to make sure out furry friend gets the most out of his require for a restraint when we take him for a stroll? We can purchase a leash that expands and allows us to give him some independence. That's something canine's love. We can also make certain his collar is powerful and comfortable, without becoming an over-priced accessory. Canine's might not like being held back by some thing wrapped more info about their neck, but I'm sure if given the option, any canine would rather have a nylon dog collar than anything else you could think about.

Save fifteen%25 off a selection of items that make for the ideal present or stocking stuffer for your pet and your pet-loving-friends' animals, including all our very best-selling vacation toys, seasonal treats, sweaters, jackets, hoodies, and raincoats.

For little dogs the exact same is basically true. However some little dogs can have issues with their throats and respiration. Even without a collar or harness on, my little Poodle mix stops to capture its breath if running for prolonged periods of time. Consequently if you have a little dog with a delicate throat then it may be a good idea to select a harness for the dog. It will, again, use pressure on the chest exactly where there shouldn't be a problem.

Make sure that the harness does not rub against your dogs skin and create sores or lesions. Check for irritated or broken skin in the areas where the harness is close to your dogs body.

Animal Spirits: Are they visiting you?

Animal Spirits: Are they visiting you?

Let's face it, we all love our pets. They become a vital member of our family, providing us priceless unconditional love. When they hurt - we hurt. When they are happy - we are happy. Losing a pet is just as hard if not harder than losing a family member. We are losing a big chunk of our life, and that is a piece of our hearts that seems impossible to ever heal. In this article, I want to talk about some signs that your pet's spirit is visiting you, that they are okay, that they love you and that it is time to start the healing process.

The first sign that your pet is visiting you from beyond the grave is the fact you are hearing their paws walk around on the floor. This is a very bitter-sweet sign, because this is the sound that you grew to love. You knew that your pet was around and you felt safe. After their passing, the house was quiet ... too quiet. You are now starting to hear their paws around the house again - the only thing is they are gone. This is a huge sign that your pet is okay, is happy, and most importantly is still around you.

The second sign that I want to discuss is the fact you still hear their collar. This has a lot to do with the first sign. You grew accustomed to this sound. It brought you joy. You would hear it day in and day out - the sound of that collar meant happiness wasn't too far behind. Now that your pet is gone, a huge piece of your life is missing. Even after their passing, you are starting to hear this sound again - and you know it is your pet, letting you know they are around and they still love you.

The third sign that your pet is visiting you in spirit form is you can hear and/or feel their breath at times, right around you and you know it is them. You better than anyone else knows what the sound of their panting or breathing is. They used to lay right next to you, rolling on their back, or running up and down the yard or house, playing like it was going out of style. You would recognize the sound anywhere. You are hearing it every now and then, when you least expect it, and again, you know it is them. This is their spirit coming to you, letting you know they are still around, playing just as hard as ever, and they love you more than words could ever say.

The fourth sign today is you feel them curl up and lay right next to you in bed - the only thing is they are no longer living. Even in life, your pet loved you to pieces. They couldn't stand to be away from you. They would always curl up to you no matter where in the house you were. Now after their passing, sometimes you still feel them curl up next to you. This really touches your heart. Sometimes it makes you sad, while other times it is a great healing energy. Either way, you know it is them, and they know your heart is still hurting. This is them coming to you even after death, to be next to you, and to heal you.

The fifth, and most common sign that your pet is visiting you even after death is the fact you see them out of the corner of your eye. It is only for a split second. Sometimes it can be a full apparition of them, or sometimes just a shadow sized like them. This is out of the corner of your eye, and only for the shortest of seconds. When you look back - they are gone. This is the most reported sign, and can be one of the most healing signs. Seeing your pet after their death is a validation that not only do they still exist in spirit form, but also that they love you enough to make themselves known to you in spirit form. This is truly special, and is a validating sign that your pet is okay, they love you and are still around.

The sixth sign today is one that happens soon after their death. A new friend makes their way into your life, and you weren't even looking. This often comes in a baby form, whether it is a puppy, a kitten, a baby rabbit, a baby bird or whatever - the Universe seemingly paved a path for this new friend to enter into your life, and you just know that it was sent by your late pet. This is a sign that your deceased pet wants you to be happy and doesn't want you sad they are gone. They don't want you to be alone, and have therefore sent you a new friend. They want you to know you have their full approval, and just because you now have this new friend, they will never be gone. This is a special sign and really shows you the unconditional love that animals so freely give to us.

The seventh and last sign today that your dearly departed pet is still around you, you will notice their old toys being misplaced around the home or yard. You have already picked them up since they have been gone, and you have not touched them since. However, you will come home from the store, or from work - only to see that their favorite toy is now out in the middle of the floor, or in the middle of the yard. You don't have any other animals - and you definitely don't play with the toy's. This is a huge sign that they are very much still around, being their happy (or grumpy) old self's. They want you to be happy too - so by putting their toy back in the middle of the floor, they are letting you know not to be sad anymore, that they are still protecting their favorite person on earth: you.

You see, losing a pet can break our hearts right in two. It can bring us lower than anything else on the planet. I want you to know that even though your pet may be gone in physical form, their spirits are still very much around. Pet's heaven works in a lot of the same ways as ours do: it is exactly whatever we imagine it is. Our pet's live for our love, for our affection, and there is no place else they would rather be than right at our sides, making us smile. That is their heaven - so when they pass away, their spirits are right back with us the majority of the time, and you can count on the fact they are giving you signs they are still around. So if any of these signs apply to you that I have spoken about, you can bet that your dearly beloved is still around, still happier than every - and they want you to know the are doing just fine!

Possible advice on how to ensure old cat and new semi-grown dog coexist happily?

Hi r/pets!

First time poster here... hoping someone has some advice.

I have a 10ish year old cat as of a couple months ago. I never really wanted a cat tbh, but my grandma wanted to offload him and I didn’t want him braving the elements in his older age or ending up in a shelter where he’s never adopted. So he’s mine now and of course I’ve grown to love the little guy. Names Melvin.

Now the issue is that I’m about to move in with my long distance fiancĂ©e who has a 3-4 year old medium sized dog. The dog is really friendly to me and random people but not really sure if he will be cool with cats? He’s not super big maybe up to my knee, but is big enough that he could hurt the cat if he went ballistic for whatever reason.

I already plan to get a cat tower to give him a place to get away from the dog if he doesn’t want to be bothered. But I still worry about issues arising and would like to hear some tips on how to make this transition as smooth as possible. I don’t want either of us having to give up our pets because they can’t get along. The house we are moving to is big enough that they aren’t going to have to interact if they don’t want to, although I’d like them to be buddies. I mainly just don’t want them at each other’s throats.

Any tips?
