What toys are your cats obsessive about?

Ever since we got the "hot pursuit", my shy cat has become a totally different person. She curls up next to this toy and purrs at it. She meows at us all around the house, and if we try to pet her, she runs off and guides us back to they toy, whereupon she flops down heavily next to it and rolls around on her back until we turn it on. She's even developed a freindship with my husband, who she used to ignore, because he will turn this toy on for her.

My two cats are spoiled rotten, they have lots of toys. They even like some of them. This one is just very special to Moss for some reason, and it's the best thing in her life as far as I can tell. She'll get bored of it eventually, and I'm hoping you all have other favorites to recommend after this one stops being so interesting to her!

Sudden extreme weight loss in cat

One of my cats suddenly lost about 3 lbs, or almost a third of her total weight. She is 11, so older, but my extremely old. She's eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, and behaving completely normally. We took her to the vet and they did bloodwork. She does not have diabetes, hypothyroidism, or kidney failure. They gave us a dewormer but nothing seemed to happen. I'd assume that with weight loss that extreme she'd have an infestation bad enough to see passed worms in her feces. What else should we ask to have checked?

Looking for advice on getting a dog

So I've never had a pet. Never been married, never had kids, etc. But... I'm thinking about getting a dog. I'm a single guy in my early 30s, and to be honest I'm feeling like some animal companionship would be what I need in my house. However... I know this is also a lot of work, and I am totally 100% clueless about this.

So, I live in a townhome, no yard, so that's a factor. I'd be looking for some medium sized dog, I wouldn't want a super tiny one, but my house isn't big enough (and lacks a yard) so a very big one is also bad. Preferably a more low-maintenance breed, if that makes sense? Or even exists?

Yeah, I am totally unprepared for this and have no idea what I am asking for or getting myself into. So all of you reading this and rolling your eyes or shaking your head, please, pretty please comment and educate me. Thank you.

My dog is suddenly so high-maintenance with food!

Could anyone explain why suddenly my dog will ONLY eat wet food and she will ONLY eat off a plate instead of a bowl? She ate kibbles mixed with a little bit of wet food for the first three years of her life and now suddenly, she eats the wet food off of the kibble and then spits the kibbles out onto the floor! I laugh at it because it’s honestly so ridiculous it’s funny, but why is she suddenly having an aversion to those things? Has this ever happened to anyone else and their dog?

Also please note: her teeth appear to be in perfect condition (she eats crunchy dog treats!) and we are going to the vet on Thursday to be sure... and her BMs are all normal. She is a 3 y/o spayed GSD/pit/lab/cocker spaniel mix and weighs about 50 lbs if any of that matters for you :)

My cat keeps scratching her scabs.

About two weeks ago or so, I noticed that my cat has these scabs on her ears. they're right in the front corner, on the outside of her ears. Two scabs on each ear, almost exactly the same positions. When we noticed it was starting to get bad, we took her to the vets. The vet we saw decided it was probably just harvest mites and she'd probably be fine once she had her next dose of Stronghold Spot On. It cost us about £39 for this consultation. fast forward to now, i've been checking her ears frequently, and I also noticed there's now a scab on the bottom of her chin as well. I haven't found anything much about this online really despite hours of searching, but I know she's still scratching at it all. Talking to a friend, we concluded it might be wise to put a cone on her until it heals, but I found a post on here about something similar with someone else'a cat scratching her scabs, and people were suggesting going to the vets for skin scrapes or cell samples. I'd love to go to the vets right this minute if I could, but my mom isn't overly concerned at the moment and probably doesn't want to spend another £39. I'm a little bit short of options, but does anyone else have some advice? I'm a first time cat owner and I honestly can't find anything like this online so I'm entirely clueless.

Damaged Foot Pads, Need Help

Hey guys, not entirely sure if this is the correct subreddit for this question, but recently my puppy somehow removed/lost all of the skin on her central pad on both of her back paws.. I’ve tried putting a salve on it, and wrapping her feet with gauze and medical tape after cleaning them gently with warm water and some mild soap, and put a cone on her to keep her from pulling them off. She somehow managed to get them off anyway.. I’m looking for ideas of how to keep her feet covered without her being able to get the coverings off. She’s a medium sized dog, weighs about 40-45lbs, about shin height on me (I’m 5’6).. I’m considering getting a pair of kids footie pajamas to cover her back feet so that she can’t pull them off, but I wanted to ask all of you what your ideas are before I go ahead with that one.

Any help is appreciated, thanks guys!

Euthanasia (6 y/o guinea pig with mammary cancer)

Hi. I'm writing this at 4 AM my time because I can't sleep, a full anxiety attack driving me insane. My beloved guinea pig has mammary cancer and the tumor's been growing considerably - doubled in size in a matter of days, and now she's limping, dragging herself to walk. She's still eating and drinking water, but this worsening of her situation has made me think that maybe the time for putting her to rest in a dignified manner through the vet's methods has come.

But God, I'm so unsure. It pains me to realize I'm sitting here, looking at her, and trying to decide if she's going to live another day or not, and she has no idea of it. My wife has depression (I have it too), and also deals with anxiety. She seems to be affected by our piggy's worsening condition, and honestly, the emotional impact our piggy's suffering is having on us is making me consider euthanasia more than before.

Are there any words or comfort you guys can offer me? I'm just... I feel broken and very, very confused.

Cat in a small apartment - smell?

I've had pets most of my life. I'm 32 now and recently my girlfriends dog passed away it it broke my heart. I've usually always been a cat person but that dog was the first I fell in love with and I miss her completely.

For the last couple of weeks I've been considering adopting a cat. Every day I talk myself out of it because of the fact that I live in a 1 room studio apartment.

Lots of people in Korea do have house cats in small spaces but I have some concerns.

Will it make me and my home smell? Some people smell of cat and their homes smell of cat and it isn't pleasant at all.

Will the cat get stressed if left for 24 hours? Sometimes I'm away for a full 24 hours at a time and I can't be sure there would always be someone to take care of the cat for me.

I've raised a few cats in my life back in England but they would spend most of their time outside.

I'm particularly interested in picking up a cat from a kill shelter or one that has been abandoned. Here in Korea people prefer to pay a lot of money for their pets and buy purebreeds but the dog we had that recently passed was a beautiful mut and I want to give some love to the unwanted.

If you for any reason think I shouldn't own a cat, I won't. I do love animals and treat them (too) well but I'm worried that my current living situation might not be suitable for pet ownership.

Thanks guys!

I found a kitten wondering my neighborhood

So I found a kitten around my neighborhood, and me and girlfriend made the conclusion that he was most likely going to be eaten by the dogs around the area since they are pretty aggressive so we took him in.

Now I’ve never had a cat before and I’m just trying to make sure gets the care he needs so I want to start of by saying he has a bunch of fleas. I’m taking him to the vet tomorrow to see if they can remove the fleas but I would like to know the basic knowledge I need on how to care for a kitten.

• What vaccines do kittens need?

• What are some essential things cats need?

• What is the best food for a kitten?

• Can the kitten’s fleas cause an infestation in my home?

Sickly outdoor cat, what to do?

I have been seeing an outdoor cat in the neighborhood for over a year, and recently its condition has declined. Its long white fur is dirty and matted, and it's becoming very thin. It never leaves the property of one house, and I found it listed on Nextdoor as belonging to that house's family.

The problem is, I'm really concerned about the cat's health, but I'm wary of confronting the family about it (I feel like that can't go well). Should I knock and ask about the cat, pretending I don't know it's theirs? Should I call animal control? I really just want what's best for the cat but would be willing to take it in if the owners wanted to get rid of it.

Bought a puppy with Parvo

Hi, does anyone have experience dealing with legal issues against breeders? I bought my toy poodle puppy, Chester, from an online breeder from craigslist 2 days ago.

When I brought him home that night, he was extremely lethargic, weak, and had diarrhea.

The next day, I took him to the vet and he tested positive for parvovirus with an extremely small chance of survival and we unfortunately had to put him down.

Within 24 hours of getting him, he had passed away..

All I have is the phone number and car model of the breeder, recorded text messages of the transaction with the breeder (paid in cash and met at a neutral location) on my phone, vet diagnosis of Chester’s condition, and documentation of expenses from the vet and animal hospital

If anyone knows anything about how I can approach this situation, please help. My heart breaks for these animals that are being abused by breeders and puppy mills.

Worried about Betta fish and Upcoming Vacation

I own a very healthy Black Orchid Siamese Fighting Fish, however I'm relatively new to owning fish like him, and I'm worried about a trip I have to go on and how it will affect him. I will be gone for 4 days tops, but I dont have a single person I can trust to take care of him nearby and dont live in an area where I can trust a neighbor to enter my house. I know Betta's are meant to go through an occasional fasting day, but I'm worried that 4 days will be too much for my little guy, even though articles say they can live up to 14 days without any food. Can anyone experienced with Betta's personally confirm or deny that Betta's can go a few days without food?

My ex boyfriend owns my cat, he bought and purchased our cat. But he is abusing my cat and once my ex moves out I want my cat to be mine OFFICIALLY. HELP.

My ex boyfriend of almost 3 years are still living together but in the last few months has gotten worse with the “discipline ” of my cat. Of the time we have had the cat I’ve helped out with food, treats, litter, toys, love, and more. I’ve always cleaned the litter box like clean*** it. So my cat can be easily startled and he will his at my ex for bringing him his food sometimes. And my ex with take my cat by his scruff and grab him and spray him with water is his face, pop him in the face. And this will of course scare my cat, frighten him. So he puts him in the kennel afterwards. (That’s if my cat didn’t get so scared by the whopping he shit himself) So my cats been in the kennel( I work three jobs, busy busy, and my ex is a stay at home student. Just setting the perspective) and wasn’t taken out in time to use the litter. So my cat has now been sitting in his own piss and shit and covered in it. My ex grabs the cat out of the kennel, let’s the liquids drip everywhere into the bathroom and then puts him in the bathtub to bath him. I’m taking care the shit fillled kennel and I’m hearing a commotion in the bathroom. And hearing my name called so I go in for help and my ex has blood on his face from a scratch from my cat and blood Alli over his hands from scratches bc I’m sure my cat was scared. So I help him stop the bleeding of course and get my baby boy out of bath tub and dry him off to calm him. I put him in my room. Then go to finish cleaning the nasty stuffs. And look at my cat later On and realizes that my cat is missing half of one of his feline tooth. It’s chipped in half. Maybe is 75% of one of the four feline teeth is chipped. And I’m 100% sure it happened when I was hearing the commotion in the bathroom. Even if my cat was trying to get away and it happened I know it’s not okay. I need help. My cat needs my help. And your help to figure out how I can officially make him my cat in my name. I will fight legally if needed. Someone please tell me something I can do.

Cats daily needed calories/how did you guys lose your cats weight?

So my cat is 19 lbs rn, pretty overweight, and i want to reach like.. lets play 14 lbs. How much daily calories should he have? Also i heard this tactic of splitting the calories by 4-6 and giving them lets say 40 calories per mealtime if the cat needs 240 calories per day. Does this work? Ratty owners: How do you repel mice infestations?

Old home and last year before I had ratties, we had a major mouse issue but got it under control. This year they have already begin their attack on our line of defenses. I really want to stick to a humane method and prefer no kill as much as possible, especially now that O have 4 ratties. I keep seeing one particular guy taking advantage of the ratty food that either gets flung to the floor and I am particularly worried about them actually getting into the food bags (and hay bin as I also have a rabbit.) and soiling and contaminating them. While they are kept in a relatively safe spot , i am also worried that the ratty cages may attract them even more and definitely concerned that they make contact with them and cause injury.

While the rats are a lot bigger and likely to win against a invading mouse, injury, infection, and disease is still a major issue to me and that has been also taken into consideration when trying to deter them. This dang mouse runs along the wall, to the rat cage, snatches whatever food or debris it can find and then runs on back. It does this for a while. I am sure it is thinking something along the lines of, "hey! it is almost like this food is catered specifically to critters like me! Awesome!"

Should I use scented oil around the food bags and storage? I can move it to somewhere away from the caging so it doesn't bother the rattos.

I am also concerned if the rats somehow escape, as they have done before (clever dooders!) and may run into the mice or get into any repellants i put down or live traps.

The house is quite old and there are a lot of places to seal up that will be difficult. Large home, many hiding spots to go. I have seen what poison does to mice and id rather stay away from that and the traditional traps because I also have two dogs and two cats. Im at a loss.

So my question is this - How do you rat owners protect against mice/rat infestations in your home? What preventative measures do you take to further prevent mice for the next year?

I am in upstate NY and it is cooling down, so they are starting to show up more frequently.

My cat won’t come home and runs away from us every time we see him in the street? (After having him for 4 years+)

I have my sweet cat that we’ve had since he was a few weeks old. His mother gave birth to him in our yard and we took him in and have had him for 4 years now.

Our cat has also had access to freely go outside sicne we live in a quiet residential area. He always begs to go out (cries at the door) and we let him out and he returns in an hour or at most the day after. He usually hangs around the yard or the block. He rarely uses his litter box for some reason.. she always begs to go outside after eating. We don’t let him out often when it’s cold, only in the summer/good weather.

The past 3 months, as soon as the weather turned nice, he’s been staying out MUCH longer. Rarely would he stay out for many days, but he all of the sudden would disappear for 3+ days.. then it became a week+... and most recently he has not returned to our home for 2 MONTHS!! And I am sad and we are all concerned.

But here’s the kicker.. we still see him in the neighborhood a couple of times the past 2 months: but as soon as he sees us and we call him and approach him he RUNS from us ??? Literally runs the other way. Sometimes slowly approaches us and then when we approach him he runs off!

This happened again tonight. My mom and my sister went for a walk and they saw him in someone’s yard. My mom went to get sardines to feed him and my sister went to pick him up and he RAN. The other night we found him digging through our garbage downstairs for food (but why when we always feed him and she knows we feed him well??!)

Can someone please help and explain what’s going on :(((( he’s a very affectionate cat and we treated her well

My kittens started eating dry food, do I still need to feed them milk or is food and water enough?

I've rescued 4 kittens somebody abandoned and they're about 5 weeks old, they finally started eating dry food (I was feeding them goat milk(I've heard cow is bad) and fresh(not canned) sardines.

Now they started eating dry food and they ate just fine with no choking at all, I've noticed they do drink water by themselves so do I still need to give them milk? Goat milk is very expensive here so it's been very expensive taking care of them... (I've never seen kitten formula being sold here).

Another question if anyone can answer, how do I deworm them? Do I go to the pet shop and ask for deworming stuff and follow the instructions? They have no signs of worms so far.

New kitten living in loft apartment

I just got a rescue kitten (She was in a colony, and we got her at 8 weeks old) and I've been keeping her in the bathroom outside of times when I'm at home and can supervise her. I want to start letting her roam the apartment a bit more, but I'd have to keep her upstairs since my dog is still getting used to her and there is no chance in hell I'd let him near her without me holding her or him on his leash. I have a pretty high-up loft apartment with wide rails. I have a rail guard on, but it's only really successful for my dog since he's to big to fight through the tight spaces I couldn't keep guarded. But she's extremely tiny (runt of the litter) and can fit through. I'm worried about her falling off the railing since she's clumsy and has already fallen off my bed a few times.
What should I do about this, and how do I introduce her to the railing in a safe way?

I think I want to relinquish my cat, but I feel absolutely horrible. What should I do?

I adopted a cat about 3 weeks ago. I have been really wanting a cat, but I feel as if I really rushed into this situation. In the shelter, she was extremely sweet and wanting tons of pets, and I decided she was the one for me.

First, I wanted an older cat. Not too old, but beyond kitten. They told me she was the mother of kittens and they were all found in the street, and that she was 3. When I took her home, the papers said she was 1, and I think that she was the kitten and they had it mixed up. None of this is a problem, and I could very much deal with the energy because I do think its quite cute.

After a few days, I started developing allergy symptoms and got a test done, and I am in fact pretty allergic to cats. Nothing serious, and I take medicine that reduces the main symptoms. But even so, I still get rashes when I touch her sometimes, I cough, and I get sinus headaches. The medicine does away with the sniffles and sneezing.

Because of this, I have to be extremely vigilant with when I touch her, with cleaning hair, changing clothes and keeping her from my bedroom in my tiny apartment, etc. Its been exhausting.

She has now taken to tearing up my furniture from underneath as well as the sides, and I have been trying to train it out of her. She has so many toys, a nice cat tree, I play with her, but it never stops. I've covered the couches for now.

All in all, I essentially only feel stress towards this cat. But all the things I listed are essentially my fault, not hers. Shes a very sweet kitty who loves pets and belly rubs. I feel horrible but I'm extremely unhappy living with her. What should I do? I should add the shelter is never kill, and I do trust them to find a good home. Nonetheless, I am not confident this is the right decision.

How can I help my cat adjust to my new dog?

I’m not sure where to post this but I wanted to reach out to a community with a lot of traffic hoping to find some answers.

If anyone has any tips on a better community to share this in please let me know.

So the story is this:

I got my cat as a young kitten. She got along fine with the dog I had at the time, though I wouldn’t say they were friends. They mostly avoided one another except when my dog would give her a lick or something. When my cat was 1 year old my dog passed away. Sometime after that I was dating a guy with a dog that tormented and attacked my cat over and over again every time they visited. Training wasn’t working. Eventually I had no choice but to break it off with the guy due to his dog’s behavior. Now, I am fostering with the intent to adopt a dog of my own. He is an amazing gentle dog. He had been curious of my cat but not threatening at all, and seems to understand she is afraid of him.

But my cat is terrified.

She has been on top of my refrigerator trembling for days. She won’t come down to eat or drink or even let me pet her.

I really like the dog and feel he will be a great fit with our family and lifestyle. And I intend to adopt him. IF my cat can make peace with it.

I know a lot more about training and behavior in dogs than I do in cats. What do I do here? Is it just a matter of waiting? Will she trust him eventually?

How can I help her?

I feel tremendously guilty that I’m even considering getting a dog when my poor cat is this afraid. But at the same time, I feel like this dog deserves a loving family if we can make it work!

Thank you so so much.

A mother cat has a litter of kittens living under the porch and I wanted to befriend them

This cat has been around for a while and has actually had some previous kittens under this same porch a few months ago. She's very nervous around people and pretty much would never let me get close to her/wouldn't come close to me. Regardless, I would feed her things like bacon, left over chicken, milk, etc a few months ago. Eventually they seemed to leave the porch because I hadn't seen them under there. Fast forward a couple of months and we noticed this new litter of kittens and this same mother cat back under the porch.

I really want to try befriending the cat and her kittens but I guess I just don't know what to do. I have fed them chicken this morning and I was able to get the kittens to walk out and eat the chicken. I was even able to pick up and hold 2 of the 4 kittens so I think that befriending the kittens will be the easy part. But I'm trying to befriend the mother and I feel like it's taking forever because she's still not comfortable around me although I do think she's at least somewhat comfortable considering she's still under the porch after all these months. What should I do? I want to set a small box out there for them to sleep in. I know that they don't really need it but I think they'd like it better than than being out in the dirt behind the bushes.

Any tips on getting a cat comfortable with you?

Adopted a cat who is declawed

Hi I had been wanting another cat for months now and found one who I loved immediately. He's 3 years old, loves dogs and other cats, and he is very sweet and vocal. I adopted him yesterday and is already exploring the seperate room I put him in since I have to separate him from the dog and cat I already have.

But I also realized yesterday his front paws are declawed. I have never taken care of declawed cats so I am very new to this. I researched about how he might develop behavioral or physical problems, this isn't a deal breaker but does anyone have any experience with this? I read that he needs a special litter because regular litter can hurt him, is there any you recommend and your cats have liked? My residential cat is not declawed will there be any problems since my adopted cat is declawed or will they just need a proper slow introduction? Also is there anything else I should know about? I just want him to be as comfortable as I can make him. tia!!

Recommended cage for 2 gerbils?

I want to get a new cage for my gerbils, a larger one so they have more room to play, dig etc. I have a space about 80cm long (could push to 85 if necessary), 50cm deep, and basically any height. It would be on a table, so not one of those cages with legs.

The bets cages I've found are either way too big or way too expensive (like £200).

Can anyone recommend a good size, not too expensive cage?

Picking between two Rescue Cats

My partner and I are having trouble picking which rescue cat is the best fit for us. We recently went to meet with a shelter and their roomful of cats in need of a home. Two cats strolled up and my partner and I were immediately chosen... by two different cats. My partner prefers Vanessa, and I prefer Elenor. Both were very sweet with both of us, but each one has a quirk that makes them difficult for one of us to choose without more consideration.

Vanessa is a Snappy cat. She will demand your attention and love, but she can instantly decide she's done with being touched and lash out in some way. My partner got a long with her well since he is very chill and can better read her body language than I can. She was nice to me too, but I did get a light scratch on my hand for looking away from her expression at the wrong moment. Elenor, on the other hand, is Fiv positive and a bit sickly-looking. She and I are both softies, and I can tell she wants all the affection I have for her. She absolutely loved when I brushed her pelt, and she even let the shelter aide handle her so easily. I just melted for her, but my partner was concerned about her health, since there was a bit of puke (or poop?) on her pelt. According to her caretaker, she's been to the vet recently, and doesnt seem to have any current illness. Both cats are also quite skinny (possibly stressed or malnourished) and currently kept together with about 5 cats in a small shelter room.

Its hard to tell which cat we should adopt into our family. It seems that both of us ended up forming a small bond with our respective cat, and I dont want to take that experience of "being chosen" away from either of us. We're wondering if the cats might be compatible as a pair since they already live together, even if they're not littermates. We also dont know what it would be like to care for two cats instead of one as new pet owners. Both are lovely and deserve a good home as indoor cats. We would really like some advice from more experienced cat owners at this point. What we should be thinking about for this choice? Should we maybe even consider a foster-to-adopt approach as part of this?

Please, let us know what you think. We really appreciate your help. :)

Some additional background info: We are in our mid-twenties and don't have any other pets. We would also like to have kids in 5 or 10 years time. Both cats are young adults, and would be alive for that part of our future. We currently live in a 1 bedroom, 1 bath apartment. Its about 780sq ft, and we already have a huge, 72in cat tree in the living room. We both work from home, and can give any cat(s) as much love and attention they need in order to best acclimate into our living space and family dynamic.

Why is my bird so happy?

My bird is normally not always making kissy noises but last night whenever I would move a muscle she would make it. She seems very happy this morning too. She’s moving all over her cage! Is it because her birthday was yesterday? That’s a joke. Why is she all of a sudden so happy?

My kitten refuses to eat like normal!

Ok, I got a kitten from a lady in my town and this kitten is young I think she was maybe ten days old when she was thrust on me. She was taken to the vet, due to not nursing on KMR formula but dives into chicken kitten food and nearly baths in it like praying to the food gods or something. She refuses to take the formula and when you make a slurry with kitten food and KMR she just won't touch it even after nearly a week of trying. She likes to poop in her bed and roll in it - she must have been a dog in her past life. she does pee in the litter box but all else just plan refuses and will yowl if you try to get her to do anything else. My husband wants to take her to the shelter and "trade her in" or he may end up making a fur headband out of her not sure but it is pissing him off. what can i do to train her or something?

My kitten won't stop eating he kitty litter

Hi everyone, I adopted a cat 3 days ago, she's settled in really well, stopped hiding after a day and is now wanting to play with us.

But every time she goes into her litter tray, she begins eating the CATSAN litter.

I have looked online that says allow her to go in and if you see her begin eating, take her out again, until she gets the message, but I'm worried about the amount that she is eating as I pick her up out of it again and again.

Any help is appreciated.

Ps: She has a bowl of biscuits and has eaten most of them, I don't think shes hungry

Just adopted two kittens yesterday. I have questions about ones behavior?

I just adopted two 2 month old female kittens from the same litter. I am technically a first time cat owner. (The first my family owned when i was 3.) I'm 20 now. However while one has shown what I perceive as normal kitten behavior; playfulness, affection, almost constant purring, and just all out joy and curiosity, the other has seemed off.

When I first got her my cousin was holding her with her mom's supervision, but she accidentally escaped under a car. We got her back with minor difficulty. However when I returned home and set up the room with the essentials, litter box, food bowls etc. She immediately hid under the bed. And didnt come out for a couple hours.

When she did she ate and hid back under. I assumed it was normal kitten behavior, and I was right. She was especially stressed with an adoption day and has since kind of warmed up. However some of her behavior still seems off.

She has constantly been sneezing since I got her. She sleeps most of the time in a secluded area sitting up completely, she hisses at her sister one minute and is cleaning her the next. But the weird thing is I believe all these are signs shes still uncomfortable however she still purrs quite a lot.

I've owned them about 32 hours now and I absolutely adore both of them. Should I be concerned? And any advice for a brand new kitten owner would be fantastic.

Dry chalky yellowish poop

Hi, everyone. Ever since I changed my dog's dog food, his poop has been dry yellowish and chalky. I've tried adding a little bit of squash and green beans in his dog food but the poops still stay the same. His current dog food is Vitality's Classic Lamb and Beef dry kibble. His previous one was beef pro. I heard Vitality's a lot better so I switched to it but I didn't know we're going to have this problem. We can't go to the vet yet due to the lockdown here in our area. What could the cause be? Is it the food? Should I change it to a new one? If yes, what would be a better alternative? Can this also be a sign of disease? Thank you so much in advance.

I’m not sure if this the right place to post this but,

I have been fascinated with pets and exotic animals since childhood. Now, I’ve thought of getting pet chinchillas and specific breeds but then after some research I came across the words, pet squirrel monkey, so that led to more research and it is my understanding that monkeys are really difficult but very “worth it” pets like a toddler, but for their whole lives. I know that their supposed to be treated almost like a child but more pet-like and are very challenging and somewhat dangerous in the pet world.

Tldr: Are monkeys fun pets and how crazy are they?

My cat is not play around the other cat. Anything I could do?

So I had a 1 year old cat whom I adopted since she was about 7 weeks old. I then adopt another cat 4 months ago (he was 6 months old at the time). I have been observe my first cat and I don’t think she like the other one much (I tried to slowly introduce them over a week). Now, my first cat stop playing with toys around my new cat. If I separated them to different room, she immediately play with toys. What is the meaning of this and could this be an issue?

What should I do about dog suddenly getting a little aggressive with kitten?

Me and my wife just got a new 2 month old kitten about three weeks ago. He's very sweet and super shy but he's been opening up so far.

We also have a 5 year old chihuaha/ Italian greyhound mix. I've had her since before we got married. For the most part she's been really sweet with our kitten. We waited about a week and a half before letting them roam around the livingroom together with our supervision. So far things had been great; the dog would chill with us and the kitten roams around and explores before chilling himself. However, the last two days we have had instances of slight agression. The first was two days ago when the kitten startled the dog and she sort of barked at him and we jumped in and that was that. They went back to there business. Then today I'm napping on the couch and my wife is sitting next to me when I wake up to her disciplining our dog. Apparently the kitten jumped up on the couch and wife went to pick him up and the dog attempted to bite at him. My wife pulled him away, and verbally disciplined the dog, but now they both seem terrified of each other.

I know I should keep them supervised for now and that's the plan going forward. Which is easy right now due to covid and me and my wife working from home. In the future though, when we're back at work, What can I do to help them get along a little easier? We live in a decent sized one bedroom apartment but it's difficult to keep them seperated for long hours. And at what age for the kitten should I start to think about possibly letting them roam the home alone together when we're out?

Thanks guys!

Bunny bleeding foot

I (16) live in ontario and its a weekend at night no emerg places open. I noticed my buns foot is red and bleeding and idk wht to do. Hes 3 and is finally getting neutered next month. Aunt was visiting (i hate her she acts like a know it all) and she kept grabbing my bun tightly and saying she knows wht shes doing , she is in no way a vet and has no experience with cats or bunnies. My bunny is very scared of strangers, and to him she is one. She kept tightly grabbing him and wouldnt listen to me. She left to go eat and he calmed down a bit cause i was trying to clean his wound and she just stressed him more. When i went to take him on the ac vent, he peed. Everywhere. I was already stressed and this was the breaking point. I started hyperventilating and washed my hands and forced him to go in his cage. I live with grandma who hates him so he has to stay in cage at night. I went to go shower and had several panic attacks and have just recollected myself. Aunt is gone thank god. No one was helping everyone kept yelling at me and i feel like a failure. My poor baby is in pain and i cant do anything. Stupid aunt terrified him even more. He only ever lets me hold him, if ever. Idk wht to do.

Ive posted this two other places too.

Debating between a pet rat or a pet guinea pig for a college ESA

Hi all! So I have a long history with depression and anxiety and I am having a hard time in college being away from my dog. So I am considering getting a pet to help with my mental health. I don’t feel that it’s fair to bring a dog to college so I have decided between a guinea pig or a rat. Here are my parameters •money isn’t an issue. I have a budget for my pet axolotl. Additionally, I have money saved up to cover college expensive and will be working over breaks. • I currently don’t have a a car on campus but can get one if I want to • I want a pet that won’t smell. I’m weary in rats because I’ve heard that they leave a trim if pee everywhere they go. •I want a pet I can train •I want a pet that I can pet and snuggle. The ESA guinea pig is currently with us in an outdoor movie night being held by her owner. • I want a pet that will interact with me •finally, I would prefer to not have a huge cage but I can make a big cage work if necessary.

Is Euthanasia the Answer?

My sweet 4 year old cat has started inappropriately urinating in my home. It started when I reached the third trimester of my pregnancy with her peeing on my side of the bed. My baby is now almost 5 weeks old, and we’re still dealing with the issue. The second I narrowed down which cat was peeing on the bed, I took her to the vet. I have done everything the vet has told me to do, and have run every test imaginable on my cat. I’ve spent well over $1,000 on vet bills, medications, litter boxes, and various calming resources for my home. Still, my cat is over grooming, attacking my other cats, peeing absolutely everywhere (including on me) and will not acknowledge my newborn child. Not to mention she started biting me. I’m worried she is going to start becoming aggressive with my baby. I’ve tried asking friends and family if they would take her, posted on every adoption site the humane society has recommended, called every rescue and shelter imaginable to surrender her, but no one wants her because of her behavioral issue. I have an appointment two weeks out to give her to the county shelter, but I fear they are going to just put her down. Would it be out of line to take her and euthanize her myself where she is with someone she knows and that loves her? Or should I give her the chance to maybe be put up for adoption? I’m desperate at this point and I have absolutely no idea what to do.

Are flea collars safe?

So, I have a dog. I love my dog very much.

Anyway, my dog gets sort of "dogsat" at my parents' house while I'm at work. My parents have a dog of their own.

My dog gets really bad anxiety when he's in the Josie alone, so I take him to my parents house when I'm not home because he feels better and he also has a giant yard to play in there.

So I didn't give my dog his nexgard on time unfortunately. I haven't seen him scratching or anything so I didn't realize I forgot to give it to him.

My step mom noticed that he had some fleas, and so did her dog. They don't give her nexgard or anything apparently.

So my step mom took it upon herself to go buy her dog and my dog each a flea collar.

I was immediately alarmed by this because I've read online that they basically slowly poison your dog. They radiate toxic chemicals around their head and will eventually make them sick. I understand that if they by chance get the collar in their mouth, they will get toxicity and die. Also read that they get chemicals all over your house which are dangerous to you and your kids.

I really don't want any of these things to happen.

I think my step mom would be really offended if I just wasted the flea collar she paid for. So I'm trying to figure out if these things I've read are actually true.

So, what is your opinion on flea collars? Are they dangerous to my dog? Are they dangerous to me? Should I rip that thing off and burn it?

Edit: Forgot to mention, my dog is an American bully. He got bit in the neck by a big dog when he was a puppy and now has scar tissue in his throat (so I'm told) so he has trouble breathing anyway. He snorts any time he takes a deep breathe, he sounds just like a pig. He overheats very easy on hot summer days, which he often starts wheezing. This is probably another reason to worry if the collars are dangerous.

Dog in boot UK Query

There is a dog in our flats car park kept all day (8 hours at least) tied up in an open car boot with food and water. It’s not private grounds too so its so dangerous!

We have been to the guys door to tell him his dog looked distressed and he has laughed it off and collected the dog. Can’t find much info about this kind of thing but do we have a case to report to SSPCA? I know they are busy right now so worried that they won’t take it seriously if he has food and water, should I speak to the owner again? Worried about this poor pup!

Cat biting and change of behaviour

Advice about cats biting

Hey guys, two weeks ago we recently adopted a rescued cat who was super cuddly and loved being pet when we first brought to the house. She also came to you if you called her name

Fast forward to today: I haven’t been able to pet her as she will softly bite me and push me away. She likes being around us but for some reason I can’t pet her even though she liked it before. Any advice on how to know if two dogs will get along?

I have a miniature poodle who's on the older side (11 y/o) and my boyfriend and I are interested in adopting a lab mix (around 3 y/o) from the shelter. She's around 46 pounds, not huge, but definitely bigger than the poodle. When we had a meet and greet before bringing her home, the dogs seemed fine, my poodle definitely prefers his space and it seems like she respected that. We brought them home and kept a close eye on them and aside from a few instances where the bigger dog got a bit possessive over a bone and wanting to play a bit too roughly with the smaller dog, everything has been going decently well. Recently though, it seems like my poodle starts to growl whenever she gets near him, which is weird because he'll often try to approach her to sniff her. We're fostering the lab for two weeks before deciding to adopt her, and it's been less than a week since the two have been together. I understand it can take months before dogs can get used to each other, but I just want to know if anyone has any tips on what to look out for to know if they'll get along. I don't want to have to return the lab to the shelter but I also don't want either dog to be unhappy at home. Thanks in advance!

Hello! I accidentally hit my cat on the head while we were playing. Does he hate me?

Now, I’ll be completely honest in that I understand I’m most likely freaking out for no reason, but I need some reassurance. I was playing with my 5 month old kitten (he is a crazy boy) with a mouse-on-a-string toy and accidentally collided my hand with his head while he ran around me unexpectedly. He didn’t run away or hiss, but rather kept playing with me. I apologized to him and gave him lots of pets (which he accepted) and some treats but I can’t help but be worried he hates me. I know this seems really minimal but I could use the reassurance he’ll be okay :(

Had a stroke of genius and wanted to share

Hey folks, hope you're all well. I had an amazing idea this week and I wanted to share it because I don't get good ideas very often and in case it could help some of you out. My cat Spud is the best boy and I love him with my whole heart. He's a big boy and his ideal weight is around 5.5kg, but despite weekly vet visits, we haven't been able to get him to maintain above 5kg. He's been stuck in a pattern of gaining a little and then losing that weight and more. He's been really finicky about eating over the last few weeks because a particular medication for something else upset his tummy. But I had an idea. Even when he won't go for any of the 10 varieties of food I have out, split into 5 different bowls of food on my kitchen floor, he WILL go for wet treats no matter what. You know the ones in the little squeezy tubes like Tiki Cat Stix? So I thought, what if I could trick him into thinking his regular food is just one big treat? Well anyway, you know those little squeezy pouches that baby food and kids yoghurt often come in? I found some reusable ones and filled them with Spud's regular food after I ran it through the food processor. I haven't been able to get his PlaqueOff, omegas or psyllium husk into him for weeks because his eating has been so funny, but I mixed all of that into it too. And once I did this and offered it to him, squeezing it out little by little, he amazingly went right for it. Sometimes he eats the whole pouch, other times he stops and has more later, but even though I know hand feeding might not be ideal for some of you, if you're really struggling to get your cats to eat, give this a go. Might even work for small dogs having trouble eating too. Anyway, have a nice day!

My dad’s parrot hates me.

My dad got a parrot a few months ago and I thought that it was awesome. I loved the idea of a flying bird that can talk and stuff- until he got it. The bird HATES me. When I first met it I hung out around it for hours and tried petting it. Days passed and I kind of forgot about the parrot because my dad only kept it in his room. Now, 2 weeks ago he moved his cage to the living room. Great, right? Since now the parrot can see me more and get more comfortable around me. WRONG. The parrot HATES me. It won’t eat any treat I try to give him and whenever I do try to it he bites me, hard. He made me bleed multiple times because of how hard he bit me. It was pretty obvious that it does not like me. He would try to bite me whenever I get close to it and I feel like there is no way for me to bond with it.

What am I doing wrong and what do I need to do?

Cat just diagnosed with diabetes-So many questions.

I know I need to wait until I speak again with the vets in a few days, but I just want to have a little peace of mind.

Lulu is 8 years old and just had her exam done to get her teeth cleaned. The vet informed me this evening her glucose levels are consistent with diabetes. I understand diabetes is very treatable and she will be able to live a normal life, but I just have so many things that I’m wondering about.

-I work long days.. some times up to 10 or 12 hours. Will this be a problem in regards to administering her insulin? -Is it wrong to take trips? How do people manage this while they are away? -Is it possible that she might not need insulin forever? -Lulu is overweight, I’ve been working on getting her weight down for some time but now I’m really being more diligent. Can weight loss help with this?

I would love to hear from people who have cats with diabetes. I’m so happy we caught it early before any symptoms showed, but now I’m feeling overwhelmed.

Dog not drinking water

So my dog, a 5 year old Jack Russel terrier mix, got a stomach bug from a puppy he played with. We took him to the vet and got him anti diarrhea and some other medication for the stomach bug. That was Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday he was still obviously sick, but was getting back to normal in terms of playing, growling and eating. Today he's been eating really good. But he won't drink water.

My father has taken to using a syringe to force the water down his throat because he just won't drink.
We're taking him to the vet tomorrow, but does anyone have any ideas why he won't drink, but will eat just fine?

I sometimes worry about leaving my dog at the groomers

I worry about whether she’s being smacked or mistreated, because I genuinely would not know for the hour she’s there. Does anyone agree that they wish there was an update system or live stream so you could check in your pooch to see how they’re going?

Fleas in apartment HELP!

I just rescued a stray kitten who is about 8 weeks old. With him I brought fleas into my apartment. My apartment is mostly vinyl and tile flooring, with one area rug. I've been vacuuming the carpet, my couch and my bed everyday, I bagged up all of my throw pillows, blankets and cat bed, I've been spraying my rug, bed and couch with a peppermint spray that says it kills fleas on contact, and I gave the kitten a bath with dawn and I've been combing him with a flea comb twice daily. I would use a stronger flea bath or use some other sort of flea killing product on the kitten, but he is way too young to have such harsh chemicals applied to him. It's only been two days, and I realize that It probably takes a while to completely get rid of the fleas. Am I doing everything right? Is there anything else I could be doing to get rid of them faster? Should I be vacuuming my hard floors daily the way that I am with my are rug?

7yr old fixed male cat randomly started being sexually aggressive towards our 4yr old fixed female cat

We've had Elvis (male) since he was born. January 1st of this year we adopted a 3-4yr old girl (Champagne) who'd been fixed as well. We did the proper introductions and they started getting along phenomenally after about a week of her being there. They played all the time and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Approximately 2 weeks ago however, Elvis started trying to mount Champagne and was biting her on the neck, thighs, sniffing and swatting at her hind legs whenever she walks by, and it causes her to hiss at him, or when he bites, she howls and bats at him before running away. He'll follow her and harass her until I step in and separate them.

I'm not sure what's caused this suddenly, but I was wondering if anyone had this happen as well.

Why doesn’t my dog like to be close to me sometimes? Very confused on behavior.

There’s times where he’ll keep following me, try and cuddle with me, and likes to play with me

But there’s some other time where I seem him somewhere so I get closer then he just goes away or backs up a little. This is especially when I’m playing with him in the backyard. I assumed he just kept avoiding me because he wanted to stay outside but I fear that’s not the problem.

Kitty peeing on rugs and floor after urinary infection

So our cat started peeing on rugs and on the floor some weeks ago and we immediately took her to the vet. Our fear was kidney stones or urinary infection, that she was associating peeing and pain with the litter box.

We were right and she took medication and was properly treated.

BUT the nasty one just doesn't bother to pee in the box anymore after that. We bought a second bigger litter box, cheered when she used it, and gave her treats everytime we saw her using it. Still, if we leave rugs in the bathroom she favors it, and even worse: she visits the neighbours and pees on their rugs too.

At home she is kind of behaving, she pees in her box if it is placed right in front of the kitchen door, if it is not, she pees on the wooden floor...

I would really appreciate some tips on how to get her back to peeing inside her litter box and leave rugs and floor alone! I love her to bits but I'm so tired of cleaning it.

I hit my cat in a rush and I now feel awful

I have two cats, one is 2 years old and the other is new and is only 3 months old. I was watching TV one day and suddenly I hear my small kitten SCREAMING in pain, like ear piercing scream. So I was naturally scared and rushed in to see what was happening. I saw my older cat biting the kitten ruthlessly and trying to kill him. I ran in there quickly and threw the older cat away and hit 2 times and it ran away and the kitten was so scared he pooped all over the floor. When I went to see the older cat he seemed scared of me and kept running away from. Now I feel super awful and I don’t know what to do.

I need advice on how to catch a cat

I have a cat at home he is a very cute black and white cat but for some time now I've heard and seen him getting into fights with a black cat. I don't know if the black cat belongs to anyone in the neighborhood. I've heard noises at night when I go to the kitchen to fix myself a snack like I open the door to the kitchen and I'll hear an animal leaving through the cat sized door on the other side of the room (not the same door) but they're gone by time I turn on the lights. I suspect the black cat has been coming inside to threaten my cat/eat his food.

I know I could set a mousetrap or some poison or something but since I'm a cat lover I don't really want to kill it. I was wondering if anyone knows a good method to catch the black cat without hurting it. My plan is to put it in a cage or something and then drive far away and throw it out.

How long after adopting a cat should I wait before adopting a dog?

My brothers and I are looking to adopt both a cat and a dog to live with us in our new place. So far, we have sorted the cat adoption - she will be joining us in a few weeks time.

My question is how long should we wait before adopting a dog? Is it best to wait until the cat is fully settled, and if so, how long does it typically take?

Any tips for introducing the two as cohabitants would also be appreciated.
