Adult dog peeing in her bed and sleeping on it?

Hi

I wanted to see if anybody knew why this could be. It is the second time that it happened.

Our adult dog (3y with no apparent health or behavioural issues) has peed in the puff that she uses to sleep. When we woke up she was sleeping there, as if she peed unintentionally while still asleep?

It concerns me because I could understand her having an accident in the floor (it never happened but still) but peeing in her bed and sleep on it seems like an issue. She isnt in a crate or so, she is free in the bedroom (and can easily move). Last time she peed in our bed but she was also sleeping there.

It made me feel as if she wasnt aware that she peed and kept sleeping throught the night.

I will ask our vet (I need to go to vaccinate the puppy) but I would like more points of view. It shouldnt be a result of the new puppy because last time that she did it we didnt have her yet.

Does anybody have any advice?

Guys my cat has been gone two weeks ..

I have looked High and low, posted flyers, talked to neighbors, visited the humane society, posted online, put his bed outside. I mean I have spent two full weeks obsessively looking for my kitty. I miss him so much. He was an indoor/outdoor cat. That wasn't the plan but he bolted every chance he got but always was home by dinner.

I need inspirational stories or any more tips? I'm convinced he was stolen at this point even though he's wearing i.d he is a really pretty cat. Anyone have a cat suddenly disappear for this length of time and come home?

New kittens have fleas, how should I go about this?

Hello. I'm fairly new to Reddit so I'm a bit scared, I'm also unsure if I'm asking in the wrong place. Please just remove my post or direct me to another subreddit if I am! I also apologize for my grammar and english, I'm not a native speaker. I'm fifteen years old, first time cat owner and just got new kittens however I found out they were carrying fleas. I got these kittens from my brother's friend who I don't know and after I found out they had fleas my brother told me they were born on a farm. When doing research I found out that your house can become infested with fleas if not taken care of properly. Unfortunately I do not have much information about the kittens because my brother's friend wanted to get rid of them quickly. My friend, who has cats, told me they have to be 10 weeks old to have flea medicine applied. I know I have to act quick but I don't know of what to do? I've never had cats or big pets before so this is all new to me. I would really like some advice from other people.

Also I live with a big family, over 6 people and my other family members are always coming over. I need to get rid of the fleas quick because I do not want to have them catching flea. Anything helps, thanks!

Crate or boarding…

I have a one year old dog and I’m scheduled to work 10 hours this week 2 days in a row. I’m really stuck on crating her and coming back during breaks to walk her or boarding her. The issue is last time I boarded her I heard her barking because she had been in the kennel for so long :/. I am super stressed about it tbh so I’d like some insight.

Cat won’t let me pet him all of a sudden

The title basically. I have a male cat (adult) who just all of a sudden won’t let me pet him; he comes when I call him but then dodges my hand, which is extremely unusual.

He doesn’t seem to be feeling ill at all, and I’m also the only one that can’t pet him; other people are fine. I also can still pet the other cats. Just not this one.

Makes me think I must have done something to him by accident, but I’ve been at work all day and he was fine before I left. It’s just super bizarre.

Teaching a dog to shake hands is generally pretty easy

Of course, all the tricks listed here are a lot easier to teach if your dog already knows basic obedience commands of "sit," "stay," and "down." Once it has those commands conquered, trick training is a snap. If your dog has not participated in a basic obedience class

Any idea what's on my cat's eye?

He seems fine but won't let me near it, which is pretty fair because it's his eye.

stray/feral cat (probably feral) pregnant

about a month or two months I saw this cat on my window meowing, i dont know if it was meowing for help or for mating but this was some time ago and i gave her some food in that time , she didnt come back until a week later where i saw her belly getting bloated i knew i couldnt open my door because my dog would go and run after her, well after a while my dog doesn't care since i take her out every day and the cat follows us, well these past weeks her belly has been getting like a balloon and she let herself be picked up but it took some convincing and her nipples are pink/red so i can confirm shes pregnant. the problem is she comes to my balcony and meow and scratches my window preety bad also i dont want her to come in since she might not be safe to be around my dog since they both could fight or cat could give something to my dog. also my dog is already enough responsibilty for me so i dont think i can take cats in. what should i do?(also ignore my name i made this account some time ago)

Advice

I'm not asking for help with grieving, I am simply giving advice.

Earlier this year I had to get my kitten put down because he had a cleft palette that was discovered too late to save him.

If your kitten has either, bulging eyes, puffy face, fluid coming from the face, please get them checked for a cleft palette, my kittens was at the top of his throat and only a millimetre across, so again, please get them checked if they have a puffy face, bulging eyes, or fluid coming from the face

My cat's girlfriend has bore a litter in the storage room. What do?

There's a tabby, one with black and white spots, one entirely white with some tabby spots, and an entirely black one. I just wanna know how I can move the cats from the storage room to the yard whilst letting their mother know. The storage room is public, the yard is private. Cats are in danger. I need their mom to know that they're under our protection now. Their mom knows our yard, she hangs by the window seal and plays with our cat in the yard... I think she wants us to take care of her litter. What do?

I received some moistened dry cat food and I don't know where was the problem

Hello.
Has anyone ever met this situation?
I bought in march some dry cat food from an online petshop. After unsealing the bag I noticed that the kibbles were wet / moistened. When I took them in my hand it stick to my palm and this stayed wet. When touching them I had this sensation of softness. So did the inside of the bag as well. There was no problem with the bag on the outside, except that the bag was cold.

This happened to me two times with different products.

Does anyone know what could have been the problem, Why was the kibbles in this condition?

Thank you

Aggressive cat

I have a female cat that has always been temperamental (except when she was small). She is known to lull a person into a sense of security, sucking up and rubbing on them seemingly looking for attention....only to swat and hiss when pet. She has on occasion attacked when simply walking by a person even when they pay her no attention (pretty rare). She has never taken to our other cat and often attacks him out of nowhere. We used to be always covered in scratches until we decided to mostly leave her alone.

She didn't have the greatest start to life. She was a stray, carried around by a young homeless girl and fed on scraps, likely exposed to drugs, and left in a tupperware container with air holes while the girl prostituted herself.

Several years ago she was limping around and not using her back legs. When we had her xrayed it turned out she had broken a hip (we suspect a fall off a ladder she liked to climb during renovations), and she also had signs of arthritis in her hips - she has never really liked her back end touched at all. THis has been a difficult to care for cat....she is a longhair and not liking to be touched brushing was impossible. In summer months, with approval from a vet we would sedate and shave her - she would look ridiculous but was much happier.

We now have two kids...my son learned pretty fast not to bother with her. My daughter, now one year occasionally tries to touch her. The cat has done well resisting scratching but we have had two unprovoked incidents recently that make us feel we shouldn't risk her being around the kids anymore. She is now 8 years old and has been extra grumpy. I wonder if arthritis has worsened and she is perhaps in pain. We are faced with an option to rehome her - we would need to find someone content to care for a cat and leave her to her own devices. Since this cat hates everyone and only tolerates us, I wonder if this is really fair and would only cause her more stress. The other and less desirable option is to euthanize her...which I think the vet may agree to...she is in their files as being aggressive (we have not taken her for a checkup in years because she gets so violent).

I guess I'm just looking for opinions, I hate either decision. Currently she is living in our backyard (with food and water) as she is most content when she is outside, and figured this will be nicer for her than locking her on a room.

Our furry demon around the time of her injury showing the offending ladder.

Cat bug advice

So, 2 days ago I adopted a stray cat. She is rather small but not a baby, I'd say she has about 2 to 3 months. So, as expected she has bed bugs, mite or whatever you call it, I'm not sure, and since she stays in my room I got some from her. I got her a special collar that gets rid of these today. As soon as I put it on her she started scratching herself, which means it's working. What I want to know is the collar just repels the bugs away, or also kills them, so basically if when she scratches she is releasing the living bugs in my home or if they're actually dying. It is an insecticide collar after all so it would be logical if they died, but I can't be sure. As for myself, I will take a thorough bath and hopefully get rid of the bugs bothering me. also, right now she is hiding for whatever reason and won't come out, is that because of the collar? Does it mean something bad? I've never had a pet before so I am pretty inexperienced

I really want a cat, but...

(disclaimer: English is my second language and I'm not really good at it so if I make mistakes I'm sorry)

Hello, as I said in the title I really like to have a cat for years now, but my mom says that the cat will scatch everything and put fur all over the place (she said I can have a cat but the cat needs to stay outside at all times which I think is kind of a sad life for the cat) and she does not like animals liking her.

I think that having a cat would really help my mental health

what can I do to convince her?

I rescued multiple dogs in awful conditions and circumstances. The problem is, how do I get rid of potential fleas?

The dogs don’t look too well, since they came from a rough spot. They weren’t cared for, and so forth. The fur almost looks mangey, and there looks to be white stuff in the poop (potential worms.) The dogs were also itchy, and one of the long haired dogs had thick white stuff in his fur, I couldn’t tell if it was massive dandruff, or something else, with some matting. They’re also skinny.

What would be the best course of action to fatten them all up, especially in a span of 2-weeks? How exactly do I get rid of their fleas, what treatment, do I just use dog flea shampoo, then use Advantage?

Also, should I request a dewormer from the vet?

Thank you , any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have a dog but never Had to deal with any of these issues so I’m at loss on the best course of action.

Smartest fly I ever knew ended up dying

It ended up finding a way to crawl through my bathroom door, although it didn't end up getting killed in the shower when I did. It hung around in my room for about 2 weeks or so. No idea how it didn't end up starving, might've eaten food off the ground and then it probably c*******d s****** in the toilet. No idea why it never left my room in hopes of rescue. It did end up coming out once for ways to go out but it ended up staying in my room even though I left the door open most of the time. Seems like it knew that the pets never go into my room. It was so sad in the toilet. I nearly flushed the toilet when I saw it in the toilet, and I had to take it outside and give it a proper burial - to its outside habitat, where it always wanted to be. I felt like it would've been a revolutionary, but it was trapped in my own jail cell.

I have never seen a fly smarter than that - a fly who knew how to crawl through bathroom doors, to avoid showers, to avoid pets, and who knew how to s*****e. Saddest part was that I threw a piece of toilet paper on top beforehand and its leg ended up coming off when I came to retrieve it. So even if it does end up revolutionizing the fly community, it'll be disabled and likely dead. I had to salute as a solider before it died.

Will he be happy?

Hi y‘all.

My bf and I got a puppy a week ago. We named him Pombo. It’s a name I made up just for him.

My bf doesn’t work, he suffers from depression and PTSD. I work full time.

Pombo moved in and I immediately fell in love. So did my bf. I loved playing with him, teaching him, going outside and show him the world. He has such a sweet soul. I benefited so much from him and love him dearly. He is also very attached to me and my bf.

Fast forward a few days. I notice a change in my bf. His mental state got worse with Pombo. He loves him and plays with him but doesn’t go outside alone with him. He looks totally burned out.

Long story short we gave Pombo back to his breeder. I keep crying. So does my bf and he NEVER cries.

My bf realised that he doesn’t have the strength to give a Pombo what he needs. And I said I don’t have the strength to work full time, take care for Pombo alone and take care of my bf because he got worse with Pombo here.

So, yesterday, we brought him back to his breeder. And he was sooooo scared!!! He was so so sad. He didn’t want to let go of me. He didn’t want to be there. And I didn’t want to let him go. But I had to for my bf’s sake.

I miss him so so much and I can’t stop crying. And it’s haunting me that my little Pombo was so sad to leave us.

My question is: do you people think he’s going to be okay? Will he forget us soon? My bf says he will. And I so hope he does. All I want is that he will be happy and will find a home where both owners can give him what he needs.

I am so afraid that he will keep missing us. Will he be okay? Is it like a week holiday for him that he will forget soon?

Tell parents I got a cat?

Long story short, my roommate adopted a cat, about 6/7 years old from a friend of a friend. Him and I bonded immediately though, and he basically would only stay in my room or want to be with me. She realized he was too much for her on top of her dog, and I decided just yesterday to take him in as my cat. I joked with my parents before about me getting a cat (I'm 22 however, just graduated) and they were super against it - however, I can easily finance having him, and I'm not too worried about moving somewhere with him with a pet policy. I'm just nervous to reach out to them and tell them I have a cat now, and hope anyone might have the reassurance that I will be ok? I'm not sure what I'll say, but probably keep it short and sweet. Thank you!

Cat biting kitten's neck? Not sure if play.

Hello everyone,

I have two kittens (not sure if one is considered a kitten anymore?). The first one is a male who's name is Luffy and he is about 6.5 months old. I just got another cat named Mai who is a female that is 9 weeks old. The male is neutered.

Anywho, I brought her home and had her in a separate room. Luffy could tell right aways something was up and proceeded to hiss at the door. Me being dumb and not doing my research I decided it would be a good idea to leave her in her kennel or carrier and have him sniff around it. It ended up being him hissing at her and staring at her for like 15 minutes straight. Afterwards he would also literally hiss at anything that smelled like her. During this time she learned how to hiss and hissed back at him. Something that might be note worthy is he is very attached to me. He will follow me around almost always and sleeps with me or in my window almost every single night. When I leave the house he will most of the time just sleep on the chair by the door waiting for me to come home. Long story short I watched some videos after and started doing the method of feeding them with a door in between. At first he wouldn't even touch his food and would just hiss, occasionally grabbing a chunk and dragging it elsewhere to eat. Slowly he started eating and within the week they were literally eating 1 foot away from the door on each side. Something to note about her is she is the complete opposite of him, when I got him and even now he is very cautious about things. If I open the door outside or anything he goes out very slowly and makes sure he understands everything before he runs. I could take him outside and he wouldn't run away, he would literally sniff around and be very cautious. Her on the other hand... if I open any door she is flying around sniffing and jumping on everything. She is the opposite of shy and literally came out of her carrier 1 hour after she got to my house.

Anywho, my nephew opened a bedroom door not realizing the situation and he ran in and saw her. To my surprise he didn't attack her and they ended up sniffing eachother until she decided to slap him. He slapped her back and then they started hissing a little bit. I broke it up but slowly over the next couple days let them spend some time together and they never got too violent. The most being some hissing and slapping. Anywho, fast forward around 5 days now and anytime they are together he will literally jump on her and pin her to the ground and bite her. I can't tell if the bites are hard because i don't see any marks and she doesn't cry everytime only sometimes. The other thing is that it seems like half the time she wants more as she will run and hide under my dresser for like 2 seconds and then come running out towards him, to me this seems like she thinks it's playing but i'm also not sure if maybe she's dumb and forgot what just happened lol. He's way bigger than her which is worrying me and why I am not leaving them unsupervised together. Anywho, my question is do you think this is him asserting dominance? Should I stop putting them together? Is he trying to hurt her? I really am not sure what to do going forward. They both slept in my bed with me the other day and didn't fight at all as well. Another thing is that now even if I put their food bowls side by side they will both eat no problem.

Any advice?

Thanks so much and sorry for the big wall of text!

Will my cat be depressed if she can’t go outside anymore?

To keep this short, I have a cat, I’ve had her coming up on 7 years now. She’s a mainly indoor cat but over time has become a indoor/outdoor cat. She loves going outside and is very upset on days when she can’t (i.e. when no one is home to let her back inside, when it’s been raining so it’s muddy). I’m moving out soon into an apartment and planning to take her with me. Obviously in an apartment she won’t be free to come and go as she pleases how she does now. Will this make her depressed because she can’t anymore since she’s so used to it at this point? Anything I can do to make the change easier for her?

Suddenly blind cat. 7yrs old male

Hi reddit, I'm here asking for some advice and maybe some support. At 11am yesterday I noticed my boy acting a bit strange. Seemed to be in fear, wide eyes, dilated. Wouldn't move. We watched him for a time and at about the 7th hour of no change we took him to the er vet. Another 10+ of him waiting and he gets seen. Doc confirms my suspension that he can't see, calls the cat eye doc and gives me a steroid and cat a shot to calm him down. Took him home, alone 3 hours of panting, he finally calmed down and is under the bed. We have 2 other cats that we are keeping away from him and my boyfriend and I are taking turns going in and sitting with him, comforting him then giving him some space. He had access to wet food on a plate and some water in a dish, but he hasn't eaten in maybe 36 hours now. We are taking drops of water on our fingers and letting him drink them off his nose, he doesn't seem to mind that but isn't showing any interest in water by himself. Sorry this became a bit of a ramble, im at a total loss and the next vet visit isn't until Wednesday.

What are some ways to make him as comfortable as possible? I don't have experience with any blindness in my life, people or pets. We have 2 soft lights on now is that okay? How should we have the other two cats interact with him? I feel so very lost and I just want to say thank you so much in advance for any help.

Should I intervene when I see a friends pet being mistreated?

So I have a good friend that has two cats that they love very much, or so they say. I know they struggle with depression and I know how hard it can be to care for yourself let alone pets. One cat seems mostly fine despite being quite overweight, but honestly it’s hard to find any pet cat that is not overweight. Not condoning it, I have two cats that my vet says are the perfect weight, but it’s not something I would intervene about. But their other cat has very long fur which is horribly matted. I mean, like sheets of matted fur all over. Without mentioning the mats I suggested getting the cat shaved to help with the shedding but they said no. I’m not sure if I have the right to explicitly say they need to do something about the mats, it’s obviously an awkward subject. We’re good friends but that’s a recent development so I don’t feel comfortable broaching the topic yet.

Idk, what do you guys think?

I am looking for signs of cyanide poisoning. I am not sure what I can do now to help it a bit. I gave her milk and as much water as possible. So far she seems fine, it's been about 10 minutes but I am not sure how long it takes to know for sure. Is there anything else I can do to help, I'm worried because the closest vet is about a 2 hour drive from here.

Edit: She is a German shepherd, very large, and around 110 pounds, iirc body weight has something to do with how quick it takes effect.

Help with cat-matting

I need help; my cat, Rosie, has developed a couple of matted hair spots on her lower back, and I wonder if anyone has used a product to help soften the mat for easy brushing, or is it better to cut the matted hair off; (if you feel you can safely do so) I've cut it off before, but it seems uncomfortable for her, as she sometimes runs away, so I thought buying some matting-softener might be good; has anyone used any of this stuff, and does it work? thank you, (ahead of time)

What is your experience with sugar gliders? Do you own them or know anybody who has them and what is your impression of them as far is their care, upkeep and suitability as pets?

My cockatiel is strange

So we got my Bird Lemon who is a 1 year old lutino cockatiel back in June of 2020. And i dont feel like she ever got used to our house. almost whenever we go outside she starts screaming in her cage uncontrollably and when we get back she begs to be let out of her cage and when we do she starts flying around the room doing laps and going from person to person.

Other times when someone is watching something on thier phone or basically doing anything that makes noise she starts screaming too and if we dont pay attention to her she will again, start flying around. She acts really weird, and when she is getting pet (after she puts her head under my hand), she will randomly bite me after like 1 minute.

The thing im mostly worried about is the screaming. Its really loud and the flying is even worse because she isnt the best flyer and im scared she will hit the wall. She already smacked my mom in the face once.

Reintroducing cats while moving?

Has anyone had any success in reintroducing adult cats to each other when they moved to a new (and bigger) house? Our cats used to get along but stopped when we got our rescue dog. One of the cats isn't bothered but the other flipped and the cats started fighting all the time.

We've been trying to follow Jackson Galaxy's model of slow introduction through scents and small visuals, but this is technically for introducing a new cat to the house. Our plan is to have much more vertical space for the cats so that there's better access away from the dog (and each other) and we're hoping that the extra space in the house allows them to not be on top of each other all the time.

How much do the past experiences change an introduction program? Since we're moving to a new house and no one has routines or territory, have people successfully reintroduced cats during a move?

How should I take care of a mouse?

I do not have a pet and I want to have a mouse because they are cheap, friendly and require very little space. Before I get one, I want to know the specifics of raising a mouse. My main questions are:

  1. Mice eat almost everything, but what is best for them?
  2. How much food should I give my future mouse?
  3. How do I befriend a mouse?
  4. What should I expect of a newly adopted mouse?

Cat peeing in my nada after vet visit

Yestarday i took my cat to the vet for a check-up (he was a street cat), and today he peed twice in my bed, 6 hours apart. I guessed it's because there's not enough litter (i forgot to buy more), but he had no problem to poop in the litterbox and after that he jumped on the bed and peed. Is this some sort of cat vengence for taking him to the vet? I seriously dont understand

How do I help my kitten? What is causing his anxiety?

My little boy's name is Ozzy, I've had him for about 2 weeks now. Im not sure his exact age, but hes most definitely atleast under a year, though id guess even less.

Anyway, since I got him he has been the most social, cuddly cat ive ever had. Every time Id go to sit in my office chair, he'd run and jump in my lap, rubbing his head wherever my hand was. Hed crawl up me and sit across my neck and shoudlers if I didnt. He'd sleep right above my head every night.

Hes never been the type to hide under things, run away from new people, or care about being held.

Now two days ago, I had a bit of a get together, celebrating my friends 1 year sobriety. So, I had about 6 people over. Now, Ozzy has always been very sociable with new people, but he's still very young and my assumption is that this sudden crowd of randoms have spooked him.

During the get together, I couldnt find him at all, and worried one of our guests let him out. Though this wasn't the case.

Admittedly, I should've kept looking until I found him that night, but I was drinking and passed out. I admit this was bad ownership on my end- for all I knew he coudlve gotten hurt, sick, or got outside. A mistake Ill never make again.

Luckily, after about half an hour of calling for him, looking under every piece of furniture and asking people in my neighborhood and nearby blocks, I come back home and shake his food bag once more,

That's when I hear his faint "meow". I follow the noise to a kitchen drawer, so I pull it completely out and he is huddled in the corner. Now, he does hide sometimes, but never like this, and I could tell by the way he acted, something was wrong.

He always comes when I click for him, shake his food, or ring his bell toy, None of this got him to move. So, I pull him out and set him down, and he immediately runs under the bed. I get him out of there and try to pet him and calm him down, he then takes off and hides again.

It's been a few days since everyone has left, and I live alone, yet he seems so much different and Im worried about him. I assume because of the sudden large group of people showing up(something I never really do)he's been spooked.

Is this normal behavior? Im worried one of the guests maybe had hurt him in some way. How can I help him get comfortable again?

Anyone else have a PortionPro Rx machine that is now nothing more than a paperweight?

For those who don't know, this is an automatic feeder that uses an active RFID chipped collar that prevents one of your cats from stealing food and overeating.

The collar tags are billed as lasting one year, but we had to replace our every nine months or so. When the machine told us the battery was getting low, we went to their website to get a new one and they have no stock.

Every indication seems to be that the company went bankrupt and we are now stuck with a useless feeder that we spent over 150.00 dollars on.

I attempted to open the tag I had to replace the battery, but this had to be done destructively and I wasn't able to do it without damaging some components.

The product itself worked great, but due to the asshole design of making the batteries not user replaceable, it seems we will need to find a new solution. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about work arounds with other generic RFID technology?

I’m not sure if my kitten likes to play or not

So a few weeks ago we decided it would be a good idea to get a boy kitten that was a few weeks old for our 5 month old cat. After a while they’ve gotten used to each other, and now the kitten loves to play. However whenever the kitten plays it seems to “growl” at the cat whenever they are clinging onto each other. But after i try to push them away, he either goes under some couch, or he goes right up to the cat and start biting his tail again. Should i keep them separated? Or should i just let the kitten “growl” at the cat while they are playing?

Need help with a small bird.

Today my mother heard some birds being loud in our front yard and our dog rummaging through something, she presumed it was just bones from lunch that he was playing with but in fact it was a small bird, the bird was trying to escape from our dog who was constantly trying to get it, my mom eventually called me and I got the bird inside, idk if it's limping or a bone has been broken in its wing because it wouldnt fly even though we placed it near outside, after a few moments we eventually saw a stray cat that would often come here to us for food and we feared it would hurt the bird so we put it in the balcony of ours and put some small rice and some fruit just in case it was hungry.

Any tips and things I should do? This is the first time I've tended to a bird and I just don't wanna leave it alone outside because of both our dog and stray cats. Any advice would be welcome, thanks in advance.

Just moved to a new house. One of our cats took it well, the other is terrified.

We just moved into a new house on Thursday. We have two cats that are pretty close in age. The younger cat, Kirby, only took a couple minutes to adjust to the change and is going about business as usual. Robin, the older cat, isn't very happy with the change of scenery. Ever since he got to the house on 3 days ago, he's just been hiding underneath my brother's bed. We had to put a food and water dish next to the bed, and we have a small litter box next to it too. How can we help him acclimate to his new home?

Dog ate wood and isn't pooping normally (bloody stool) I'm scared

We have a wooden dog house, he chews on from time to time and I usually catch him when he does it, well finals came by and I was inside all day doing homework until the afternoon when I noticed vomit on the floor I checked it out and saw bits of wood

Later saw he was struggling to poop and would do a bit of diarrhea and droplets of blood cam out aswell (nothing major but concerning)

we took him to an emergency vet today and couldn't afford the vet bills estimate so we got meds for him in the mean time until Monday comes by and can take him to our local vet.

He doesn't want to eat much ethier ( he usually eats like 1 really good full bowl of food and I had to hand feed to eat) I gave him rice and chicken and gave him his pills. I'm just really nervous and scared. What else can I do? I'm really scared he's my boy and I love him.

Is crating a dog while at work bad?

So I made a post and when about having to give up my dog to my sister and when it was found out I crate my dog while at work. I was evicerated for it. I read that crating while at work was fine and I never noticed anything wrong with my dog. Have I been doing something terrible by crating my dog while at work or is it ok? We dident see him for over 24 hours and when he came back he looked fine and ate a bit and drank water. the next day we noticed he dident eat at all and took him to the vet but they said he doesnt have any of the big problems like kidney failure or cancer but they did give him a anti nausea shot and gave us antibiotic food to syring feed him. They did mention that his belly skin is slightly yellow though. Its coming on day 4 without him eating and i have no clue whats happening. I really wanna know how long he will keep doing this.

Can my Dog eat a tablespoon of cat food a day

I'm so sorry if this has been asked before, I am going to keep this as short as possible

Dog - 13, 35ish lbs, not overweight

Cat - 2, 10ish lbs, doesnt drink water, little overweight but vet said 'it's normal for shelter cats'

I was told to feed Cat UTI food mixed with wet food and water so he drinks. He is my baby so I am happy to do this. However he tends to leave about 1/4 of his food in his bowl.

Dog is my very good boy but has lost his appetite. I was putting stock in his food and he loved it but that is A LOT of sodium. He is on old man food and does his best but I think it doesn't smell

So I have been taking 3/4ths of the wet cat food and mixing it with water and putting that over his old man foos and now he is a little puppy when he eats and I don't throw out cat food/money. Everyone is happy including mom!

If this an alright solution to the problem at hand? I know he can't have a ton of the cat food but it's about a tablespoon a day. I felt silly bothering my vet for this.

Thank you so much (I can't get pet tax because my animals are known on the internet)

Sometimes Aggressive (but otherwise really sweet!) Dog with Cat in Studio Apt

My parents recently adopted a dog who is just the absolute sweetest - most of the time. She attacked their neighbor’s dog (territorial over food/toys) and bit my dad (barks at all men).

My parents want to rehome her, which is obviously hard now with her bite history, and might result in her getting put down. But I love this dog and really want to keep her if I can. I fit her with a muzzle, and she seems really comfortable in it. With the muzzle on, she’s able to play safely with the neighbor’s dog and doesn’t so much as bark at my dad.

Here’s the problem: I live in a studio apartment with a cat. With the dog’s aggression, I would probably have to keep her muzzled or crated all day. Does that sound sustainable, or totally inhumane? Is it bad to put my cat in this situation? If anyone has any suggestions about how to make this situation work, I would really appreciate it.

Missing Cat Seen on Home Security Camera

Our indoor cat has been missing for 9 days, but 3 nights ago we spotted her on our front porch through our security camera (We are 100% positive it is her). We immediately went to the door to lure her in but she had disappeared. That is the only sighting we have had of her and we need some tips to get her to come back home!

A little of what we’ve been doing: • The entire neighborhood is aware of her being gone • We put her blankets and used litter outside • We call for her throughout the day and night with a bag of treats • We’ve set out water, wet cat food, catnip, you name it • Side note: Our camera picks up 2-3 other neighborhood cats each night, but we have only seen our cat that one time

Help me cure my puppies from parvovirus and kill the disease! ๐Ÿ˜ข

I'm dealing with depression and anxiety, yet I'm getting so anxious ๐Ÿ˜ฐ seeing my puppies suffering from this horrible disease, they're just 2 months old! ... I don't understand how they got it, but there's 2 things I've been thinking, maybe because they were sniffing and eating from a pipe that might have feces tho, and I try to separate them from it, or because an adult mother dog (not their mom) has contacted virus from her puppies since all her puppies died (our neighbor said)

At first I thought one of my puppies was just sick and thought it was normal, and the other puppies were playing and running around, then.. then came back and saw him laying and suffering, my aunt gave them meds, i don't know what she gave them, and when I came to check on the dog, he was bleeding from his behind, and when he bled a lot he then passed away... And I didn't even wanted to cry, not in front of my sister, she will cry, since she's very emotional with animals, I cried away from her, so she won't see me crying...

And I have 4 more puppies, and one that is almost getting sick.. I put 2 away separate from the sick puppies.. 2 sick puppies together, but both bleeding a bit.. vomiting and drinking water from the same bowl.. I don't know what to do.. Is there a way I can quickly cure them or save them? PLEASE I don't have money for the vet and I'm saving for my medical bills since I've been in the hospitals.

Also I try killing the parvovirus ๐Ÿฆ  with bleach all over my house and my shoes, accessories toys except for my blankets and clothing or shirt I'm wearing..

Please help me, what can I possibly do?๐Ÿ˜ญ

I want to ship a specific pet toy to PO BOX?

I’m trying to order a cats meow spinner toy or a mystery motion toy. One of the toys with the spinning tail under a circle mat for the cat to chase? My cat is about 2 years old and I want to keep her happy and active. She has a cat tree and used to play fetch with me. When I throw a ball though now she just sits and waits for me to throw it again once it stops moving. I think she would love one of these but we don’t have pet stores near me and the ones I find don’t want to ship to my PO Box. I don’t trust Amazon after a few missing orders and low quality items. Does anyone know where I can buy one of those where they will ship to PO Box?

Lost cat 4-5 days ago. He’s come back 3 times since but still roaming

My cat Pollux got out 4-5 days ago when I left the front door open for a split second. He is a former feral cat, 5 year old boy, and I’ve had him for about a month.

I caught on my Ring video camera him coming to my backyard on two separate occasions in the early morning hours (3am-5am) and even went in the trap I placed for him but was able to escape after it closed! :(

I also saw him twice in my neighbors bushes and was able to corner him under a deck until he ran away. He didn’t seem responsive to me calling his name when I had him cornered.

Any advice or stories would be much appreciated. I’ve looked around for him and done pretty much everything everything possible. I haven’t seen him the past couple of days an am worried getting caught in the trap spooked him way out to the point where he’s avoiding my house. Thanks

Curbing habits from old owners

So, I have a purebred pocket bully that I adopted from a friend after a landlord dispute they had, and he came with some habits that I honestly have no idea how to curb. He was 2 1/2yo when we got him and is now a little over 3 1/2 years

The first and most concerning is that he REALLY likes beer, his previous owner was full hillbilly and gave him beer A LOT, and he developed a heart murmur because of it. Whenever we have friends over, he gets nippy and aggressive about begging for the beer if we tell him no, I use a squirt bottle to discourage him, but sometimes it makes him a bit more vocal and pushy if he’s in a mood. We’ve also tried time out and just firmly saying no

The second habit he came with is a hotspot scratching need that has cost us many couches and chairs. He has no impulse control and just scratches until he passes out from the pain or we catch him in the act and give him a squirt. He currently is on vet prescribed medication to control the pain and hotspot flashes, but he was allowed to literally run his backside RAW on the previous owners couch or trees on their property, so he’s developed a nasty habit of trying to scratch on everything.

His vet didn’t offer much advice for the beer problem, for both she mostly offered a bad tasting no-itch solution, but bitter bites can only stop so much when he’s in the zone.

Any advice would be amazing, I’m not sure my carpets or current couch can stand up to the constant wear haha. I’ve briefly considered filling a clean, empty beer bottle with water and tricking him that way, but I’m not sure how deception will sit with him

"For the animal shall not be measured by man..."

Never ever tire of this: "For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with the extension of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings: they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth.” -Henry Beston

Recommendation for vacuum for pets hair

I dont know where to post this but figured I'll try here first.

I will be installing carpets inside my kids bedroom soon. Our pup sheds a mountain per day and likes to snuggle on the carpet with the kids.

The robot vacuum does a good job occasionally but it isn't able to grab all of it. Needing recommendations of a really good vacuum that works like wonders for hard to get out hair. Price isn't an issue.

Rash over cat's eye? [pictures]

I've seen this rash come and go for months, though it looks the most red it's ever been right now. It's usually just over her left eye. I took her to the vet for an annual check up about 3 weeks ago, at that time there was no rash and she was in good health overall. There is some discharge from that eye as well but other than that it doesn't seem to bother her (no pawing or scratching at it).

She does snore/breathe loudly when she sleeps and because of this my vet has told me in the past that she is probably a "chronic snuffler"/carrier of the herpesvirus. Is that what this is? Other than that the only thing I can think of is allergies ... there has been no change in her food/my detergent but she's been sitting at the open window more often now that it's warmer out.

Not sure. Any help would be appreciated!

I should note: I am going to take her back to the vet, but I won't be able to for at least 2 weeks so I wanted to get advice in the meantime.

(Sorry the pictures aren't super high-res, this is the best my phone camera can do.)

FOREIGN OBJECT IN MY CAT

So I have 2 cats with Peka. This has resulted in multiple vet ER visits to the point I can no longer afford anymore of these kinds of visits. One of my cats (moose) has already had foreign object removal surgery and my other cat (murph) has swallowed his second foreign object recently. About a week ago I came home to a lethargic Murph with puke all over the house. After some investigation murph had swallowed maybe 3-4 feet worth of Iphone charger. The x-rays where terrifying with just a massive bundle of wire in a ball in his stomach, gas throughout his whole stomach, “complete blockage”. Brought him from the vet to the ER where the radiologist couldnt make it until the morning. That night they gave murph digestive medicine and by the morning he had passed all that cord to his colon completely on his own and no surgery was necessary. Now I am a nazi with my chargers I do everything in my power to ensure my little guy cant get his hands on one. However about 2 night ago I feel asleep with my speaker charging and woke up to another charger completely destroyed with about 7-10 inches of the cord missing that he most likely swallowed. It is a standard USB-C charger. As someone who simply cant afford anymore sudden thousands of dollars to come up with I decided to just do everything I could to imitate what the vet ER did in hopes hed pass the object on his own again. I got him digestive medicine and over 48 hours later he has shown no signs of a blockage at all. Totally normal eating playing purring going to bathroom. I even found a few cm’s of charger in his stool. Do you think this means the entire charger is in his colon? Do these signs tell me he is probably going to pass the second charger safetly? Is there anything I can do to help him ensure he passes the charger? Or do you think I still need to be worried that some of it is still in there and could cause another blockage? I’ve been worried sick for days here any help is appreciated. Thanks reddit folk

how to stop the puppy from crying?

We have 2 puppies that we usually kept in our room since it was clean. it sometimes wanders out of the room but we put it back since its Dirty

Here is the problem, one of them wants to go out but we cant let it since its dirty and its still just a puppy, so it just starts to cry while sitting near the door waiting for someone to open it and when someone does it attempts to run straight out immediately.

there's about 2 I can think of why it wants to go outside

  1. It wants to explore
  2. it wants to interact with my other dog, which we keep out

any advice?

Cat keeps throwing up, but otherwise seems perfectly healthy??

Hi all, I'm debating whether I should go back to the vet, or whether this most recent episode of throwing up is my fault?

  • Thursday 20th: Cat was clearly sick. Threw up twice and had diarrhea, and his behavior was erratic. He didn't sleep all day, was just lying down at the weirdest corners. He was still affectionate and still grooming, however. I took him to the vet, he got some meds, vet did blood tests, all came back negative. So nothing to worry about, the vet thought it was just a minor stomach bug.
  • Friday 21st: Cat barely ate, his behavior was still erratic, but no vomit, no diarrhea
  • Saturday 22nd: Went back to his regular food, but fed him much less. Behavior back to normal
  • Sunday 23rd: Fed the cat his regular food again, and closer to his regular portion. He threw up everything in the morning, so didn't feed him much more. Fed him a small amount in the afternoon, he kept it in. Behavior was still 100% normal, and going forward, it's always been 100% normal.
  • Monday 24th: He kept everything in, I fed him some very small portions for both his meals
  • Tuesday 25th: He kept everything in, I fed him some slightly larger portions for both his meals
  • Wednesday 26th: He threw up what I first fed him, but he acted weirdly around the food. He refused to eat it at first, and I kind of insisted by constantly presenting it to him, he ultimately ate a bit, then threw up. When I smelled the canned food (it was a freshly open can), it did not smell very fresh. It didn't smell bad, but definitely not like his usual cans. So I thought to myself, maybe the can was spoiled? I fed him from a different can, back to very small amounts, and this time he kept everything in
  • Thursday 27th: He kept everything in, I fed him some slightly larger portions for both his meals
  • This morning: He threw everything up, but I fed him some fairly large portion of food (not his usual portion, but about 2/3 of what I would feed him prior to him becoming sick). I wonder if he threw up because his stomach is no longer used to larger quantities of food.

I'm obviously worried, but I feel like at this point he also needs to rest as much and avoid stress as much as possible, and shoving in in a crate and going to the vet is definitely a stressful experience for him...

Edit: Even this morning, his behavior is 100% normal. He asked for food for a while (after throwing up). Right now he's sleeping in his normal spot after a session of grooming, prior to that he explored his usual spots, munched on a bit of cat grass, etc.

My cat unexpectedly passed away a couple hours ago; what should we do in our final hours with her?

Our cat passed away very suddenly late tonight, just under 3 hours ago. She was old, but this was still unexpected and extremely rapid. She passed at 10:15pm; it's now 2:00am and we will have no choice but to have her cremated in the morning.

We're trying to think of things we can do in our final hours with her that will help us grieve and/or give us a way of remembering her. I have memory challenges, so physical keepsakes are particularly powerful and meaningful for me.

What are some helpful things that you have seen cat (or pet) owners do before giving up their pet's body to cremation-- or wish they would have done? I can't rely on memories alone, and I know this sub's members see people love and lose their pets every day; I didn't want to kick myself later for not asking you until it was too late.

  • We've made a couple paw prints in the past using salt dough, so we tried that again tonight. It didn't work very well; maybe we got the recipe wrong.

  • We also used craft paint on her front paws to get a stamp in a little shadow box; it turned out only okay, but definitely better than nothing.

Thank you for any suggestions. We've never lost a pet. We're barely holding ourselves together and we're exhausted but I don't think we'll be sleeping tonight. We recognize we have very little time to cement final memories and/or create keepsakes to keep with us (especially me) for the rest of our lives.

Ferrets? New owner. Help?

So recently I had surgery and have been in pain after getting 2 young ferrets. I’ve been trying to get them exercise. At the moment I’m letting them play on my bed for 15 minutes (trying to still recover) and I got them a play pen. It’s a medium sized one filled with toys.
I’m planning to let them play in it for 30 minutes at a time. Is that a good solution for a healthy ferrets?

10 Month Old Kitten Diagnosed with Level 2 Heart Murmur

Hello All,

Went in today for a physical because I was concerned my cat had a UTI but in reality he is just very high maintenance. Nevertheless, the vet detected a heart murmur and referred me to the local vet hospital which didn't have availability until December for a cardiology appointment. Called around and managed to secure an appointment with one in July about 3 hours away. Regardless, I am freaking out a bit as I love the little guy and have never had to deal with this before. Could someone give me a rundown of what to expect/what their experiences were?

Note: After this I 100% recommend pet insurance because he looks perfectly healthy in every other aspect. I know some people have strong viewpoints against it and say you will probably lose money in the long run, which is true, but the comforting feeling of knowing this entire ordeal will cost me, at most, $500 is amazing. I'm not sure what I would have done in regards to postponing it if it ended up costing 3K+ right away and I am happy I never have to make that decision.

basically title, he peed once before in my bed but was when I just adopted him other than that I had issues with him overgrooming that goes way after feliway.Should I just take this as an accident? Or could it be something underlying?

He looked really embarrsed and follow me around rubbing my legs which he doesnt normall do.

Lost and Found Cat Situation

Hello I have a friend who found a cat about 2 weeks ago. They had all the shots, scans, and vet check ups on day 2 to make sure there was no chip. The cat has no chip, and just found a post about the lost cat 2 weeks later. When contacting the owner, they said that it's their cat, and that the cat lives outside about 80% of the time. They said it was normal for the cat to leave anywhere from 4-6 days in a row. So with all that being said, they are in a dilemma. They of course have grown attached to cat, but they are worried about home life for the cat. They have been taking care of the cat for the whole 2 weeks and have been giving it a home. And it sounds like the original owners don't really give it a "home". So they're trying to figure out what would be the best thing to do.

Please no shit posting please. Just trying to help a friend out. Thank in advance for all your help :)
