Where to store closed/sealed wet food cans?

Like, not open ones (which I know should go in fridge). Where would you usually store sealed wet food cans?

I'm about to transition my cat from dry food to wet + dry. Going to start with Farmina N&D Chicken and Pomegranate cans, as they're highly acclaimed.

But I'm not sure where to store the cans as they arrive. Should I keep them in fridge, as well? Or should they be okay if stored in a dry, room temperature shelves until opened?

Merely asking because I know my cat will hate cold food... and heating up the food everytime I open a can seems like a big chore.

Cat is drinking regularly but has been denying food for the past 4 days. Vet gave her some antibiotics before yesterday and told us that she should eat only dry food, still refuses unless I try to hand-feed her a tiny bit of sauce from the wet gravy

Hey. Before reprimanding me about not following my vet's instructions - I gave her the tiniest bit of cat food sauce that stuck to the tip of my finger just to see if she refuses that too and she didn't, she licked it. I didn't continue.

Info about the cat: She's 3 years old and very calm, she spends most of her day being lazy, cuddling on your lap, occasionally playing with the other, 8-month old crazy kitten.

Right now it's 10 PM on Saturday here. The last time she ate was Thursday evening. Since then, she's been refusing food (but thankfully drinking regularly, likely even more than usual as she doesn't get the fluids from her wet food).

We've noticed she hasn't eaten the whole Wednesday and from early Thursday morning up until noon, she has vomited bile about 4-6 times and had diarrhea. We went to the vet with her in the afternoon. She tried pressing her chest in multiple places, but the cat didn't react in pain at all, she was still relaxed. Next, she measured her temperature, and apparently, it was a bit over the norm at 40°C (104°F). She gave her a shot of something that should stop the vomiting (which helped instantly) and some antibiotics. She told us to come for a checkup the next day (Friday) and that until then, she shouldn't be fed anything. The cat spent the day resting, drinking, occasionally urinating without access to food.

We arrived on Friday, cat got (supposedly) a second shot of the antibiotics and we were told to let her rest and to feed her only dry food (upon her recommendation, we bought some easily digestible Royal Canin food). At home, we gave her 3 bowls (her regular dry food, the Royal Canin one, and some small kitten-friendly small Purina kibbles so she can take small bites). She hasn't eaten the rest of the day, kept drinking regularly, and going to the toilet.

Today (Saturday), she's still the same, but with a weird twist. Around late afternoon, she went to the litter, and, after 3.5 days of not eating, she defecated a little bit, it was not completely liquid but not solid either, something in between.

Now it's the evening, and she still hasn't eaten, I tried dipping the tip of my finger into the wet food she regularly eats and gave her the finger, she licked it without much hesitation. I tried pouring a tiny bit of the sauce on the easily digestible dry food, but she also refuses that. I didn't want to give her more as the vet told us we should stick to dry food. Her next checkup is on Monday.

Now comes my dilemma - at this point I'm thinking that her eating anything (a healthy cat would eat) is better than continuing the starvation, but I really don't want to go against the vet's instructions. We're her regular visitors and she's always been super helpful. Should I call her tomorrow morning and ask her if I can give her the wet food, or is that too unethical (considering she has other pet patients and would be giving me advice over the phone) and I should keep waiting until the Monday's checkup which would mark the 6th day of the cat not eating? I understand that in extreme situations, cats can go 2+ weeks without eating.

Sorry for this wall of text, I just wanted to give the most detail I could. I'm not asking for medical advice regarding going against my vet's advice, just asking if this behavior is, from your experience normal and I should wait until Monday's scheduled checkup, or contact the vet ASAP.

How do I prevent my kittens from eating like little pigs?

So about a week ago I rescued four abandoned kittens from my grandma’s backyard. I took them to the vet and they told me the babies are only four weeks old. With the approval of the vet, I’ve been feeding them the royal canin kitten food and they go absolutely nuts over it! I was giving them the blue buffalo kitten food before I switched, but decided to go with a healthier option for them. They always ate the blue buffalo just fine.. they never stuck their whole face into and actually paced themselves while eating. Yesterday when I came home from work, the kittens came to greet me and their faces were drenched in kitten food... it literally looks like we pulled them out of a dirty sewer. I watched them eat later that day and they not only stick their entire faces into the food, but their front paws as well! So now the fur on their faces, chest, legs, and paws are crusting over and it looks painful for them. I just gave them a bath and they are all clean now as I am writing this, but I wanted to see if there is a way to prevent them from throwing their whole bodies into the food bowl to avoid getting so dirty again. I tried using a smaller bowl last night and that didn’t work either... if anyone has some suggestions please let me know!!

Edit: grammar and clarity

Why does my cat go nuts whenever I'M eating food?

As the title states my cats goes absolutely bonkers for about 5-10 minutes whenever I bring takeout food home, she runs frantically back and forth through the house, jumps on the bed and makes crazy cat noises. She acts straight up like a dog who's excited to go outside, as son as I finish my meal though she immediately calms down and acts as if nothing just happened. Is she just putting on some entertainment for me while I eat? What gives? I've never seen or heard of a cat do this before.

Should I let my cat go outside (on a leash)?

Hello.

She has been living inside since she was small and is about 5-6 years old I think.

She often tries to run out when the door is open, but she never goes far (only couple meters from the door).

She also spents pretty much 60-70% of her time sitting/sleeping in front of a open window (with a net). It's her favorite place.

She seems to really want to go out, but she hates being on a leash, and I sure am not letting her go on her own.

Should I just keep forcing the leash on her until she gets used to it?

Another thing that worries me, is that if I go with her outside more often, won't she want to spend time there even more?

Thanks in advance.

Dog ate baby rabbits

My dog ate baby rabbits or at least we expect she did. We took her to the vet this morning after her waking up from a dead sleep wincing in pain. She then started pacing around and slept in the bathroom which she's never done before. She's also having issues going up stairs and hopping up on the couch which is unusual for her. Has this happened to anyone's dog before? Wondering what exactly is going on with her and if it's the dead rabbits I found in the yard.

Edit - we are waiting to hear from the vet at this point

Unable to decide if I should keep my bigger dog or not

TL;DR: I got a dog soon after my other dog passed away, but he stays outside. He is aggressive to all other animals and sooner or later will kill one of our other dogs. I love him with all my heart and cant decide if he would be better in another home, especially since My grandmother has brought me "A dog better fit to keep in my room". My uncle (who owns most of our dogs) tells me I cant keep both, and I cant wait 3 years for my house to be built so I can move out and keep both, my mom wants to start a goat farm when we don't have the money and keep her 4th great dane, everyone in my house is addicted to keeping pets yet my sister and I are allowed to only keep 1 because everyone else has too many even though I'm breaking that rule with 3 pets (not breaking that rule by choice), sooner or later My dog will kill someone elses pet and its giving me anxiety and no one want to ease the situation of "we have too many pets". oh also its illegal where we live to have more than 4 pets- we have 24 pets, plus 5 goats and 2 more great danes on a 69 plot of land (where its actually legal to have more than 4 pets). My grandma breeds rats and birds and used to breed over 200 finches but sold them all, my mom breeds dogs, and we dont have the space or money for it. originally this post was gonna be asking for advice about what to do about keeping or re-homing my dog but at this point I dont care for advice i just need to vent about the stress that all these animals bring.

Photo 3

this is going to be alot because I have a lot to say there's a lot of information to get in here so strap in. You know its gonna be a long story when even the TL;DR is a full paragraph long.

So, a little bit of info: I'm 16, and I live in a 4 bedroom, 1 bathroom house with my uncle, grandma, my sister, and my mom (we had to build her a bedroom on our porch). we have 11 parrots (ranging from cockatoos, macaws, and smaller parrots like conours) 3 dogs in our main house with 2 staying in my mothers room and 4 in the backyard (ranging from a chihuahua to great dane) I have a ball python, there is 1 family gecko, 3 prarie dogs and some rats. since the day I was born, I was surrounded by pets (literally- my mom had 4 dogs when my twin sister and I were born). We have not gone one day in our lives without at least 4 pets living in our house.

now some backstory: back in 2019, my dog (an Alaskan Malamute named Ace) passed away. I was 14 at the time. I cried for a year and a half. We got that dog from a litter that one of our other dogs had- she's had maybe 9 litters (I don't know why we haven't gotten that poor thing fixed yet). and FINALLY my uncle (owner of the house) let me keep one. I raised him since he was a puppy, and I got attatched. So of course when he passed when we didnt know why (he acted sick for a day- we gave him food, forced him water, and gave him a little pedialite ( dunno how to spell it, its some kind of medicine you would give to an infant to help their stomach) but the very next morning he was dead- so whatever it was, it only took a day to kill him (and we were gonna take him to the vet, but when we called they said they were too busy and we would get my dog in quicker if we took him in the next morning). After about a month and a half, I was still grieving hard. my family was pushing me to get another dog and I wasnt ready. My uncle actually adopted a dog HE wanted, and claimed that "it was for me" (I didnt want a female dog at the time. Her name is Dani- she is an aussie shepard and pitbull mix.) and my uncle, knowing we have too many dogs and pets in general, kept her anyway and even went the extra mile to adopt Dani's sister, Aria (both named after Game of Thrones Characters. My uncle adopts dogs, claims their gonna be hunting dogs, and never trains them or interacts with them. As i type this, Aria sits in a small chainlink kennel in the back corner of our yard, blocked by a pool deck with no pool. My grandma feeds her (I think) and she is pretty much forgotten about. We have made posts trying to give her away but no one will take her, probably because she has obvious pitbull features like her face. she is a pitbull with australian shepard colors and spots pretty much). So because of this, I began to feel rushed into adopting a dog. I wanted a doberman, then a pitbull, but my grnadmother gave me a strict no (because they are "aggressive" dogs by nature). I also wanted a corgi and schnauzer, but couldn't find one on Craigslist. so I settled for a cute Aussie shepard/border collie mix. I named him Milo.

I raised Milo from a puppy too (6 weeks). I will admit, I was cruel to that dog for about the first 2 months of his life. When he did something wrong, I spanked him little too hard and even slapped his snout. he would stay locked in my room and rarely be let out, him we was in my away I would kick in his direction (never a full swing kick, but lightly and I never actually hit him. it was just in his direction when he was in my way.) and I didn't really play with him. I pet him, but never took him outside to play. My only reasoning was that he wasn't my dog and ace was. Milo got sick one day when kennel cough went through most of the dogs in our house. I took Milo outside because he was gagging like he would throw up. so I sighed being annoyed and took him out. as he sat there dry heaving I decided to press on his stomach and throat to see if I could force him to throw up since he was having trouble. after bout a minute or two I realized I was hurting him and stopped. it kinda clicked in my brain what I was doing and I cried alot and finally started to love this dog.

After that, I took him outside, played with him, never spanked him or hit him (yelled at him when he misbehaved and I was there to catch him in the act yes, but didn't hit), etc. soon he got too big to keep in my room. my room is small, and Milo comes up to the middle of my thigh (Im 5'1"). So we stuck Milo outside in our backyard, with Aria (before she was put in the kennel), Dani, and Aspen (Ace's mom). he was about 4-6 months old. he stays out there full time now (minus 3 months that I will talk about in a second). Pretty soon Milo started fighting will all the other dogs.

First he picked on Apsen (she is 12 years old, and a husky/wolf mix). Aspen now stays on our back porch because milo almost killed her, taking a large chunk out of her back leg, scratching up her face and biting the heck out of her neck. He has done the same to Dani and Aria, taking chunks out of each of their back legs, haunches, neck, and multiple scratches and scars on their faces. pretty soon Milo's behavior wore off on Aria, and aria began to attack aspen too (so she got put in the kennel). Dani stays out and Milo has been fixed. We hoped that neutering him would calm him down, especially after he got Dani pregnant. We kept milo in my room for 3 months so he would kill Dani or the puppies, and kept him in my room until he was fixed. 3 months later and 3 weeks after being fixed, he was let outside. The fighting dialed down, but didnt stop.

More than once I've thought about getting rid of Milo for a home that will love him more, play with him, and he wont have to fight. I do still play with Milo but I never go out of my way to do so. I usually go out in the backyard at least once everyday for work (I work on an Etsy shop from home, and since my crafts use Bleach I make my products outside where the bleach can air out). when I'm out there I'll play with Milo while I wait for the Bleach to dry. This is once everyday, but only once have I out of my way to play with him (and that was only because it was his Birthday). I know it doesn't seem like it, especially with my sister straight up telling me I have my dog, but in reality I really f-ing love that dog, I've had my ups and downs with him, but I love him. It hurts to see him fight and nearly kill our other pets, and it hurts that I cant keep him in my room (he will attack out parrots when bringing him to my room, and when he is in my room he wrecks everything. Within those 3 months he stayed in my room he has stained my floor with dog shit stains that I now have to cover with a rug (that he left for me while I was at school- he doesn't know what a puppy pad is for despite my countless efforts to train him to use it) he has eaten computer cables, the knobs to my drawers on my desk and dresser, eaten clothes, chewed on my bed frame, etc.) and even then there is no space for him- my room fits a dresser, my twin sized bed, and my desk and that's it. when I said my room is small, its small. its maybe the size of a very small college dorm room.

While I do think finding a new home would be best for not only him but for the health and safety of all our other dogs, I just cant seem to do it. I start to cry when thinking about re-homing him. I feel like he would be sad too, since my home is the only home he's ever known. I feel like it would make him sad, stressed, and possibly even more aggressive. and it would make me sad too, I don't want to think about him sitting outside in a cardboard box because someone adopted him, wasn't ready for it, and "released" him which is pretty much a guaranteed death if no one comes and takes him home or to a shelter. and I don't want to take him to a shelter directly because I don't want to think about him being one of those dogs sitting sadly in the corner for years because no one wanted him. I want him, and I do want to keep him more than anything, but its getting dangerous for the other pets. He's not people aggressive, just animal aggressive. He kills cats on sight, attacks dogs, growls at birds, etc.

I have been pondering this for almost a year. after about 4 months into 2021, I decided I'm keeping Milo. there was no way I was getting rid of him. However, something that happened today changed that. My grandma left for work, but quickly came back and came into my room immediately. What did she have? a solid white Schnauzer(?) (female) who is the sweetest thing I have ever seen. She Isn't aggressive at all, to people or dogs, birds, or cats, she Isn't scared of water (we gave her a bath and cut the burrs, stickers, and thorns out of her fur. her calmness in the bath makes me think she either 1, Isn't scared of water naturally or 2, had a really good home that trained her well) She came right up to me and laid on my lap, using my hand as a pillow. My grandmother usually hates picking up strays but she gladly brought this one home. Usually when she brings home strays, she says something along the lines of

"NO we are not keeping it, we have too many dogs- we are finding this ones home immediately and if we cant it goes to [petsmart/petco] where they can find a home for it. No you cant keep it, No you cant name it you will get attatched."

And that's what we've done to the other 3-4 strays we've picked up- we either found its home or gave it to [petsmart/petco] to deal with. though with this one she gladly said "If we cant find its home, its yours". and even asked me what I wanted to name her. Now I knew her rule, dont name the strays because then you'll get attatched and I didnt want to get attatched to this little white schnauzer- I had Milo and I was struggling to even keep him. Though, she asked so I said "Stella" because she looks like a Stella. Now guess what? Im attatched. it doesnt help that this dog has literally not left my side since my grandma left to go to work. As I type this, Stella is sitting next to me in my office chair, using my thigh as a pillow for her head and she has not moved. when I took her outside to go to the bathroom she flopped over for belly rubs, and when I sat down to pet her and be on her level she crawled right up in my lap and snuggled up to my chest. when walking into the kitchen she followed me the entire time, staying right on my heels. With Milo, he doesnt do that- he never was a snuggly dog, and doesnt follow me around. sure he will sit in my lap (or try at least- hes too big to actually fit in my lap without smothering me but smother me he shall because he thinks he's a lap dog) when he wants pets but once he doesnt want to be snuggled or pet he struts away and doesnt come to interact with me again until he wants pets again. when he stayed in my room he slept by the door for the entire night- he didnt want to sleep in my bed with me which is fine, but this dog (Stella) doesn't want to be any less than 3 feet away at all times. Now that I have Stella and will most likely keep her if no one comes looking for her (My grandma said that if there are no posts on Facebook looking for her within a few days to a week, she's mine) I feel guilty for having Stella when I don't even go out of my way to play with Milo. I was thinking about rehoming him again, but it still completely breaks my heart to think about.

I should also mention, my Mom and stepdad bought some property about a year ago- its 69 Acres (yes they kept it that number on purpose. they were originally gonna start a farm/ranch and call it the 420 ranch but I think they changed that plan, lol my parents are super cool) and this property is conveniently across the street from my highschool! My parents are building each person their own tiny house (with something like this for exterior, patio and all, and something similar to this for the interior) complete with a fences in backyard for our dogs. I was thinking "Oh if we get those built then I don't have to decide! I can keep milo out in my backyard and bring him in during harsh weathers (He's been outside for so long I think he actually hates being inside now- when he is inside he will sit at the door and whine and cry until I let him back into the yard.) and keep Stella too and just have her put away in maybe a room or puppy-pin when Milo is inside!" however, since the price of Lumber/Timber is our area has gotten so high, my parents have completely stopped working on the buildings. they barely have one house complete (which isn't even a house. its a workshop for my step-dad for his Sign buisness since he started a self-owned sign business, like billboards and such. my family is full of entrepreneurs and self-employed bosses) so this make total sense and everyone was cool with it. but not only have they stopped working because of prices, my step-dad is also just super lazy. he refuses to get a normal job "because he doesnt like people telling him what to do" but he doesnt even make signs when contracted! he has put off one particular job for a whopping 2 months and its not because he was busy- he just didnt want to do it and I'm serious- he could have been working on signs, or clearing the property of misquite trees, etc but he will work for 5 minutes, take a break for 20 minutes and continue that all day. or not work at all some days because its too hot/too cold/too many bugs/too windy/the dog wont let him work etc. AND even though they barely have money because both him AND MY MOM refuse to get normal jobs- we have almost no money for the houses yet they go out to eat at restaurants every other day (im serious, its sonic or wendys every other day and both saturday and sunday every weekend, and the bar every wednesday) AND THEY BOUGHT 6 GOATS! WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR GOATS. My mom wanted goats because they're cute and can make things like soap and butter but i know my parents very well- those goats with never be milked and soap/cheese/etc will NEVER be made. those goats are pets, not farm animals. AND SHE EVEN WANTS TO BREED THEM!

Its going to take an estimated 3 years to finish even 2 houses at this point and thats too long- Milo could kill another dog in that time, or even be dead himself (I cant predict the future, who knows what will happen in the span of 3 years!) so I'm kind of at a loss. whats crazier? My mom owns the 2 great danes (I mentioned we had great danes in the first paragraph, remember?) and she ALSO has ANOTHER great dane that she keeps at our private property! (My stepdad lives at that property despite not having a house built there- he sleeps in a metal shed that they are renting at 300 a month). AND GUESS WHAT?! THE FIRST AND SECOND GREAT DANES MY MOM GOT HAVE BRED FOR THE 4TH TIME AND SHE IS KEEPING ONE OF THEM! SHE HAS 4 GREAT DANES AND NOWHERE TO KEEP THEM! Her room is maybe 5-10 squares bigger than mine! I cant even keep milo in my room but she is keep 2 FULLY GROWN GREAT DANES in hers with a QUEEN SIZED BED instead of a twin sized one, plus a desk, shelves, a FLATSCREEN TV with display cases of video game figures and pop figures- and the great danes either sleep on her bed or a small dog bed in the closet. there is almost zero floor space in her room minus a tiny walkway that is definitely too small for a great dane, let alone 2 fully sized ones. Granted, she has put a back door in her room (remember how I said we had to build her a room on our back porch? this is the only reason she was able to do this) and has fences off the little allyway between our house and our neighbors for her dogs (we had our neighbors permission) I swear everyone in my house has an addiction to keeping pets! My grandma brings home new parrots and exotic birds every few months, my mom keeps collecting great danes, my UNCLE brings home dogs and then has the audacity to tell me to get rid of milo when Stella shows up, even though he owns 4 OF THE DOGS THAT WE HAVE! My mom owns 4 dogs but 2 stay in her room and never come in the house- the other 2 stay on a 69 acre plot of land so they dont count.

Oh and to add some more pets to the list- my grandma has started breeding rats for food for my ball python but my grandma loves rats and will probably end up keeping some.

yes I know this could have been summarized but I dont care- I needed to say it all. this situation is out of hand and me telling this whole long story is helping me wrap my head around it. everyone is acting like stella is my dog already (saying we would go get her fixed, but her a collar etc. This isnt my dog- I dont have any right to get her fixed or anything. not yet anyway). and everyone is super biased. My sister has been begging for another dog so her chihuahua/weiner dog mix would have a friend but instead they brought stella to me (my sister doesnt even like Schnauzers so she doesnt care but still) and I have 3 pets- I dont need 3 pets I dont want 3 pets. I have my snake because Ive wanted a snake forever, and a dog- actually I was planning to not get another dog after milo passes because i didnt want a dog I want a cat but i cant get a cat because my grandma has 11 parrots. actually we used to have cats but my grandma did the stupid thing and threw them outside to which they were killed and poisoned by some of our neighbors who dont like stays because "they're pests". so our cats have been murdered. why did she throw out our cats when they didnt belong to her and actually belonged to me and my sister? because she started breeding finches and the cats killed a few finches (she used to have over 200 finches of various breeds and I'm not kidding. she has a HUGE aviary behind the couch in our living room full of them, then she bought an RV/Camper and removed all the furniture and filled it floor to ceiling with cages, and she had her room filled with finch cages too. she sold all of the finches and stuck with bigger birds thank GOD.) we dont have a dining room anymore. Why? because our living room is filled with bird cages so we sold our dining table, moved our couch, coffee table, and TV into the old dining room and blocked our fireplace with a TV (because my crazy grandmother wouldnt let us use a fireplace because the smoke would kill her birds) and no one eats together in a dining room. in fact no one in my house can even talk to eachother because we are drowned out by screaming birds you can hear from down the road. Its a miracle we havent had noise complaints. we used to do family game night but no one does that anymore because of our pets. and we barely have the money to keep all these. the only people in my house with jobs are my uncle (which he spends all his money on beer) and my grandma who blows every penny on her birds and has to buy dog food, cat food, rat food, etc. she will never retire because of all these pets and she only makes 17 an hour which will drop because her boss is retiring and she has to find a new job. my sister has a job but my parents wont let her pitch in for bills "because she should spend money on things she wants" however when she DOES buy something she wants she gets judgmental looks and asked "why did you buy that when you could have saved your money for something more important/useful/helpful etc" and i am looking for a job but cannot be hired (quit my old one because my severe ADHD/couldnt focus/sensory issues/stress/anxiety" and have put in applications all over the place and no one will take me,. my mom and stepdad just flat out refuse to get a normal job and are basically freeloading. I was gonna ask for advice but i dont even care I really just needed to vent because every time I think about the pet/money/space situation I start sobbing this is way too much.

Advice on getting cat to lose weight?

A while back my cousin got these two cats from a retired lady who had kept them since they were kittens—their mom had the litter right in the lady's garage. My cousin wound up being pretty bad with caring for cats and was going to give them back to the lady, so I offered to take them myself.

Well, one of the cats has been huge from the start, while the other one is normal-sized. No one has tried to do anything to get this cat to a healthy weight, so I want to try. The problem is the only way I know how is portion control. If I start restricting this cat's portions I just know she's gonna start eating from the other cat's bowl. Any advice?

I just got a pet betta fish. And I have conflicting answers on how much to feed it.

When I got the fish from the pet store, I asked the person there how often I should feed it and they said twice a week. I don't know how many pellets you would feed on those two days. All the websites I see online say to feed it 6 days a week, 4-8 pellets total on each of those days. Can someone help me out here and tell me how often and how much to feed it, I'd rather be doing the twice a week thing if possible.

Any advice?

Beware of this company.

What started as empty promises, has blossomed into further lies, deceit, theft, animal abuse, and a complete and utter lack of accountability.

We initially received a quote of R39 000 for a platinum package which I quote:

PLATINUM OPTION

This really is the whole nine yards (minus Bruce Willis sadly) your platinum option includes EVERYTHING that the Gold option does, but with Platinum all you need to do is Rock up at destination airport on the time and day that we agree with you and take your Fur kid home. Nothing more.

Well, to say that this has not been our experience is the absolute least of my concerns at this point.

Oh, and when you try post anything on their Facebook page, they delete it, which can only lead me to think that I am not the first person to be duped by this company. Thankfully they cannot control HP and other social media outlets.

From looking at the positive reviews pasted on Facebook and HP, I am convinced that these reviews were undoubtedly posted by staff or people who were paid to write them, as this is the most deceitful, unaccountable, dishonest company I have ever dealt with.

From staff delaying their deliverables due to sick children and other customers being a priority (yes, I as the client was told this on numerous occasions) , to shifting blame to the airlines, cargo staff, veterinarians; to animal abuse, to holding my animals hostage, it has been an absolute nightmare from day 1.

I enquired about pet travel to the UK originally in February, and I was adamant that the dogs needed to travel by the end of June as that is when my lease expired.

I was told that they could facilitate flights within 2 weeks, so when I confirmed that I wanted to continue with their services in the beginning of June and to advise on availability, I was not assisted until the security deposit had been paid. bear in mind that nowhere in my interaction with them prior to this was it stated that they would only start working once they received this deposit, only that the deposit would secure the flight date. In fact, the communication was vague and I did not understand the process at all, and requests for clarity were met with: the pandemic makes it difficult for us to confirm anything at this point. I paid the deposit mid-June, expecting the 2 week wait for the flight as promised. by the 28th June I was begging them for a flight date as I had nowhere to go and had to contact my landlord for an emergency lease renewal. on the 29th June I was advised at the last second that a flight could only be secured for the 13th July, and that my dogs had to be kennelled in the interim, at a cost, of course. I was desperate as I felt like I had no other choice, and proceeded with the option, having to make alternative arrangements for accommodation or risk ending up on the streets. it was at this point that I should have known that this company is dodgy! But I remained faithful because the consultants were very friendly after I had secured the deposit and promised to pay them for the Platinum option, which was almost R40 000.

Communication is non-existent in this company and I had to be responsible for more admin than the "expert" assigned to my case, who we had to beg for an invoice daily up until 3 days prior to their flight, despite their own policies demanding full payment 10 days in advance.

My dogs were originally scheduled to fly on the 13th of July and could not due to an air pressure problem on the plane allegedly. No proof was provided from the airline to corroborate this. I was forced into kennelling my animals for an additional month before the next available flight. bearing in mind that my dogs were dumped at the airport and subjected to the cold weather in their small crates, probably petrified and stressed beyond means. They have done nothing to prove the contrary and the pictures I have received are extremely unsettling. my dogs wellbeing is clearly not a concern, but my wallet definitely is. They were then returned to the kennels, at another additional cost, of course! we were promised a discount, but we never received same.

A flight cancelation occurred on the 30th of July and we jumped at the opportunity to get my 2 fur babies to the UK safely. At an additional cost of course, because customs clearance is more expensive over the weekend. We paid diligently at each demand for payment without delay.

The dogs were checked in at 10AM and if I had not checked the flight app to see that the plane was delayed, they would not have told me.

To call them experts is probably the funniest joke I have heard in my life, as I was constantly told that I needed to liaise with whomever was responsible for the latest failure to resolve whichever queries I had as they did not know. Some Platinum package, right?

Whilst I was sitting in a quarantine hotel in London, it was bad news, after bad news. I eventually had to be medically sedated and medicated due to the stress associated and my health severely declined to the point where I was vomiting daily and not eating.

So not only were they callous and reckless with my animals, they were a threat to my own health.

At each and every phone call received I received bad news, it has become a sick joke in my household that when Petport calls, bad omens follow.

Finally we received some good news, or so I thought, because they confirmed that my dogs were checked into the flight on the 30th July, despite the delay of the plane.

An hour after the plane had left OR Tambo, I was once again advised that my dogs were once again dumped at the airport, scared, cold, and caged for God knows how long, with absolutely no reason provided.

I must commend Petport on their extreme ability to express "absolute shock" at every detrimental piece of news that they reported to us, Charlize Theron could not compete with their act. But what rang consistent throughout my entire interaction with this company was that they denied any accountability and at every single instance they made it very clear that I was liable for every single thing that has gone wrong.... Sitting in a quarantine hotel... how they derived that logic is beyond me, as I appointed Petport as my chosen travel agent, and held Petportresponsible for ensuring a smooth relocation of my pets. But alas, they somehow still found a way to say it’s my problem, verbally of course, never ever in writing.

At this point I lost my temper with the company and I must apologise for my outburst, but please, tell me, at what point can a person start getting angry about the constant failures of Petport to uphold to the ONLY thing I asked of them - to get my animals to the UK.

After reporting them to the SPCA for animal cruelty, reporting them to the SAPS, and reporting them to IPATA, we were advised that they managed to get the dogs on a flight on the same date to the UK. Why this could not be arranged on the 13th is still a mystery to this day. Whether this was convenience or coincidence remains unknown, but I was happy to finally see my animals after 2 months of being apart.

One of the requirements in pet relocation is that all original documentation must be provided, as well as state vet clearance.

We were informed this morning that the dogs arrived safely in the UK, and we were overjoyed to be rid of Petport's mismanagement of the entire situation.

Imagine our surprise when we received a call from Petport advising that the original documentation has been lost by the airline and that we were once again liable for paying for the UK vet do to the clearance, at a fee of 300 GBP no less. We could then claim it back from the airline. We advised that they should cover the costs and claim it back from the airline as they are still responsible for the relocation until my pets arrive at my door, after all, that is what the Platinum option entails, which was a whopping R20 000 more expensive at the end of the day than the Gold package, mind you. And once again we were told it is not their problem, leaving us in an impossible situation and forced to dish out yet more funds.

When we spoke to the Animal Reception Centre at Heathrow, we caught Petport in a lie, as we were advised that only copies were attached to the pets crates from the start, which means that once again Petport failed in their duties and proved to be deceitful, and incapable of taking any accountability for their incompetence and mistakes.

Petport keeps blaming the volatility of the pandemic and that this is a global situation, however at every difficulty faced with the agent on the UK side, they were able to accommodate every single request and went out of their way to arrange delivery of the pets despite not having available drivers for the day.

The pandemic has been around for almost 2 years and in this time it is clear that Petport has not installed a single policy to address the issues they supposedly experience, and every stumbling block was at the detriment of the customer.

I am absolutely petrified of receiving my dogs today as the pictures provided of the pre-flight will haunt my dreams for months to come.

Petport is completely unwilling to negotiate and no longer answers or returns my calls but are happy to keep the funds I paid them, despite managing most of the travel arrangements myself, having worked in the travel industry previously and not being useless, I managed to locate the necessary individuals in order to sort everything out from my side.

As far as I am concerned, I will definitely get the SPCA and the SAPS involved if there is even the slightest indication of animal cruelty towards these animals when they arrive later today.

Please be aware of this company. They are the smoothest of liars, but will drain you financially as well as mentally.

Do not fall for their trap like I did.

I am heartbroken to think of the other victims of this heinous company that suffered as I did, and can only hope that this post gets taken with the severity it deserves.

Stay far away from these people and tell everyone who considers this company to think twice before they fall into the same pit that we have.

Please assist me to highlight these heinous acts and criminal activity performed by Petport.

Best cat flea treatment for the price?

My cat somehow has fleas (even though I never let him outside) and I hate seeing him uncomfortably scratch and bite himself all the time. I can't afford to spend a fortune on top-of-the-line treatment, but I want them gone. Anyone have any advice on best bang for the buck treatments?

7/8 week old kitten with diarrhea (anemic, low energy and won't eat. Asking for advice)

Hello,

my wife found this sweet little kitten a couple weeks ago. We've taken her to the vet, started deworming after we found a little diarrhea and everything seemed to go fine as the poop was getting better. The cat should be around 8 weeks old. Yesterday the diarrhea came back, more aggressivel so the went went on to deworm her again and send us hiome with supplements. Today the stool started having some blood in it and was even more liquidy, upon taking her back the vet did bloodwork and found out she is anemic to where she almost needs a transfusion. He gave her some IV for a couple hours and advised we keep her on a heating pad and try to offer food. She's been drinking a little but not eating, she's very lethargic and isnt moving much. I'm wondering if i should try to force feed her a bit of food and maybe sugar water to help her get some nutrients but any sort of food for the past two days just seemed to go right through her. If you have any other question please feel free to ask, i might have left something out as im very concerned and it's hard to organize my thoughts. Let me know if you advice to force feed or not or anything else we can do to help her out together with the medicatiopn she's been taking.

Medications :

-Pet-tinic 0.15 mls every 12hr

-Rebound 1.5 mls every 12hr

-Meteonizadole 0.10 ml every 12hr

-FortiFlora one packet in food or water every 24hr

-Marquis Paste 0.25ml tomorrow afternoon

How willing are cats to share an automatic litter box?

I have one automatic litterbox, one regular cheap litterbox. I recently adopted a second cat, and have a separate litterbox for the new cat. At first, the cats didn't get along but now they do! Have any of you tried having two cats share an automatic litter box?

I don't mind the extra scooping, it's just that my apartment is a bit limited on space, so 2 litterboxes is a bit much

Is my friend unintentionally abusing his cat?

My friend got a cat with his girlfriend a few years ago. The cat was social and chill when I first met him. Idk what the day-to-day life of this cat is, but my friend on occasion asks me to stop by their apartment to refill the automatic feeder for the cat, clean the litterbox, and fill up the water bowl, while my friend and his gf are out of town. They keep the cat locked up in a small bedroom. The litterbox, water bowl, and food bowl are kept in the room. Apparently the room is exclusively for the cat, and I think they lock him in there every night because they mention they don't trust him to not fuck with the wires/cords.

Anyway, I stopped by yesterday to do the cat duties, when I opened the bedroom door, the car meowing incessantly, and he stayed absolutely glued between my legs as I walked. He would freak out when I change directions and be all panicky as he switched directions with me. If I stand still in any room long enough he'll stray a few feet from me to scrounge for food. But the moment I move, he would abandon anything he's doing to stick to me again.

Also his most memorable trait were his really deep blue colored eyes, that's what stuck with me when I met him a few yrs ago. But honestly -- I had to look away when I made eye contact yesterday because he has a manic look to them now.

Also his tail was sticking straight up but vibrating excessively nearly the whole time. Idk much about cats or cat behavior, but this looked more like severe anxiety than anything.

It was also hard to get him back in the room (my friend instructed me to do this, I felt so bad for the cat tho), and lock him back in there. The cat knows to stick by my legs so we're always in the same room together. He's afraid of being locked in again. So I had to sort of dance between the room and hallway until I had enough of a gap go close the door on him.

I was instructed to only stop by yesterday. My friend and his gf are out of town for a week. The automatic feeder lasts 3 days and the two bowls of water "should be enough for 3 days". They topped them off before they left, and I refilled the night they emptied out. He calculated that they should be back just as they're emptied out again.

But idk man, the servings look so small, and I'm more concerned about the mental health of the cat being cooped up in a room for nearly 6 days with only 5-10mins of freedom.

Is this normal or ethical to do?

Worried my cat is becoming food-obsessed or possessive

Hi all,

My male cat (~18 months) has recently begun exhibiting worrisome behavior around food. His sister and he have been on a diet for approximately two months to bring them back into guidelines as provided by our vet. However, as we approach their weight targets, he has begun to orchestrate his entire day around food and the way he interacts with our other animals.

Examples:

  • Relocating his lounging spot to be next to the food bowl
    • He will not budge unless an activity, such as play, is going on and sleeps next to the bowl as well
  • Pushing our dog (~12 months old) out of the way to steal some of her food. She is significantly bigger but very sweet so she does not fight back.
    • Same thing with his sister to a lesser extent
    • All animals are fed in proximity to each other at the same time
    • He will leave his food, even when his bowl is still full, to try to stop the dog from eating. Sometimes two to three times a meal.
    • Currently babysitting every meal to make sure everyone eats appropriately
  • Running into the closet where we keep the food when anyone is in that room
  • Aggressively pursuing human food
    • Jumping into the sink to lick cooking dishes
    • Pulls the drain plug (rubber thing in the sink) up if he smells food in the disposal
    • Entering the dishwasher or dashing to the trashcan to get food if some is left on a plate
    • Attempting to grab food from my or my fiance's hands or plates
      • Grabbed a frozen yogurt popsicle off the stick while I was taking a bite and has attempted to eat the opposite end of a sandwich that I was eating, as I was eating it.
  • Chewing through packaging to get access to food
    • This includes loaves of bread, pet food, treats, etc. If it comes in a bag that he can see or smell the food through, he will go after it.

You get the idea. We currently feed him twice a day and have attempted to break up the meals to be three times a day to help him stay full. We have tried two separate foods, the latest being more fibrous, to also help with that. We also remove the food bowls when it is not feeding time to minimize visual stimulation. All the animals get treats in addition to their food. Discussion with the vet led to him getting a slight increase in food quantity approximately two weeks ago however, in my opinion, the worst of the behavior has been exhibited since then.

I am concerned that he will soon become aggressive or possessive and we will need to feed the other animals in a separate location, isolate him during our personal mealtimes, or do other major corrective measures. Thank you in advance for any advice or suggestions you may have.

Hamster bit qtip

this isn't my hamster, it's my brothers, and I have to take care of her, I wanna bond with her, and let her know she can trust me, and she somewhat does, I don't touch her with my fingers, but instead a qtip, which she enjoys, she lets me rub her with it, however she bit the qtip, like as if it was food, clamping her fingers on it, and nibbling on it, (basically trying to eat the cotten), I pulled it away, but she tried to pull it back, is this normal? Is this considered aggressive behavior, she still stayed near the edge of the cage, and let me pet her again, but would try to bite it again, I stopped petting her with it to avoid this behavior, if I pet her with my finger will she do the same?

Cat gets weirdly territorial and attacks visitors

Hi all, I've had my cat since he was a kitten (he's 7 now) and he's always had trouble with having people over. He HATES cat sitters, friends, family-- anyone who comes over, he gets SO annoyed. He'll put up with them for about an hour and then after that, he'll start following them around the apartment when they walk around, yelling at them and gradually escalating into scratching/biting their ankles and feet.

It's so obnoxious I usually have to close him in the other room, which is okay for a while but makes me feel guilty and also, I've been wanting to start dating lately but I'm legitimately afraid of what will happen if I start having people over, much less if they want to spend the night. And forget ever moving in with a partner at this point-- I used to live with roommates and oh boy, did he hate them.

Does anyone have any advice or have gone through a similar situation? I've looked this up online many times and watched every episode of My Cat from Hell and nothing really seems relevant. He gets tons of interactive playtime, so I don't think it's play aggression-- it's legit "get out of MY house" aggression. Ugh.

What should i do with my gf-s cat during the night, please help.

My gf left her cat[1 year and a few months old]to stay with me for a week and i have no clue what to do during the night. It’s not the first time she’s here, but usualy we just let her roam around the house and me,my mom and my brother would close the doors to our bedroom.

The situation is diffrent now tho, because it’s too hot to stay with the doors closed,so i have no clue what to do.I feel wrong locking her up in a room thourgh the night when she is used to sleeping with my gf or her parents or to roam around the house.

I don’t want to let her in my room because im a light sleeper,i’ve tried it in the past and it’s either hard to fall asleep or she wakes me up at random points in the night.

So what should i do?

I want to return my dog

I got a dog a few days ago, but once she came home the magic wore off. The biggest problem was that she was super hyper. I took her on walks, played fetch with, and even trained her to sit. But no matter what, she was always running at top speed around the house biting anything and scratching doors.

The last straw was when she bit my little brother (who is 4) making him cry. Honestly she’s been nothing but an annoyance this whole time, and I think a family with all grown kids and more time on their hands is what this dog really needs.

I feel really bad about this, especially when I see her napping and helpless. But I know once she wakes up she’ll go back to being a danger to my brothers. I just really needed to vent because I know I’m making the right decision, but I’m still feeling really guilty.

Concerned about our Kitten

Hey guys! So we got a new kitten about three days ago, he was feral and has FIV so he’s been sleeping a lot. He had no issues with feeding or drinking water but something happened last night that has us a little troubled.

We’ve been having him sleep with us for the past couple of nights and unfortunately I rolled over on him in my sleep. We think we got to him quickly but this morning he was having trouble standing up. We took him to the hospital and they took X-rays, nothing was of immediate concern. They recommended overnight with an MRI but wanted to charge an additional $1800 which unfortunately we don’t have the money for right now. So, we brought him home and are keeping a close eye on him. They gave him pain medication which we are supposed to give to him later tonight, but I’m concerned about his breathing. He is breathing super loud and it almost sounds like he’s meowing. When I elevate his head it stops being loud but I’m not sure if it was we should be doing?

Any advice or input? I’m feeling a bit scared here.

Update on giving my dog liquid medication (advice is appreciated)

I applied what I learned from YouTube and my dog still reacted the same. Some few details I notice ever since the beginning of giving her the medicine was that she started breathing poorly through her nose but just fine through her mouth. Now today, although we hadn’t given her the medicine today because we do it at night, my dog started reverse sneezing today so I feel like that has something to do with her breathing weirdly through her nose. Because of this my dad has told me that we will no longer be giving her the medication. I don’t know if that will help her breathing heal and I fear the fact that I didn’t give it to correctly the first time might be the reason why she’s reacting this way. I don’t want it to be my fault but it might be my fault. I’ll be contacting the vet that gave us the medication tomorrow as they are closed at this time. However I would really like some advice on what might be happening, should I still continue to give her the medication as we only need to give it to her for 5 consecutive days meaning that she’ll stop taking in in two days if we still give her the medication, and maybe some reassurance or comforting words that might make me feel better.

How to get my cat to settle down

Ever since I got my cat (~2yo), she cannot sit still. She will constantly nudge your hand for pets to grab your hands with her paws to lick and nip. If I try to put her in bed with me, she does not settle down. She wants constant attention. If she does somehow lay down, the moment you shift, she’s back at you wanting attention.

She’s not anxious or stressed or anything like that. She just wants attention. So, how do I get her to settle down so she can sleep in our bed without needing attention?

Cat diarrhea solved by adding pumpkin- any long term alternatives?

Hi everyone, my 14 year old male cat has been having runny poo for a while now and the vet suggested we mix pumpkin with his dry food. After a few days, this resulted in solid poo and when we stopped the pumpkin, it returned to runny poop so his issue is definitely diet related.

My question is, if the pumpkin works, is there any dry food that will have the same effect as adding pumpkin to the food? So that we don’t have to continuously add canned pumpkin to his food. We have tried limited ingredient food to narrow down a possible food allergy but his poo got even runnier after that. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Allergic to cats: second cat hypoallergenic considerations

I already own a tabby cat (male, 2 and a half) that gets lonely even when we’re working from home. I found out I’m allergic to cats, but I take antihistamines and they seem to help control my eczema and sniffling a lot. We’re looking to get a second cat that is “hypoallergenic”, at least as far as cats can be so, particularly Siberian and Russian blue breeds.

There is a breeder that does cross-breeds, such as a Siberian-Russian blue mix, but also crossed with non-hypoallergenic cats such as Siberian-Maine Coon or Siberian-Ragdoll.

Does anyone have any experience with introducing a second cat if you already are allergic to the first?

We have no plans of getting rid of our tabby, but would look at getting a hypoallergenic cat to try and keep the allergens as minimal as possible. I just don’t know the effect of whether we should look for a full Siberian or if a cross-breed would be sufficient.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Should my mom’s dog be euthanized?

My Mom has an old adopted large dog she saved about 3 years ago, from the get go his legs seemed redundant and had difficulty moving correctly however he still seemed to be able to move enough, but now he can’t even move from his bed and cries all the time even at night with huge problems getting outside( we have to pick up his hind legs to get him to get up). It is in my belief that this dog( old german shepherd/husky(?) mix around 13 years) needs to be euthanized for ethical reasons but my Mom believes otherwise and reacts negatively to my proposal. I’m not coming from a stance in which I want this dog to be put down rather I don’t believe she can for one adequately care for him as he just lays on his bed all day from lack of movement and moreover the fact this dog seems to be suffering. Am I wrong to recommend euthanasia.

TIL dogs can experience anxiety much like humans do, if your dog is excessively panting, licking, barking being over aggressive or over active it could be suffering from severe anxiety

Just so you know sometimes it isn't just your dog being a "crazy" dog doing dog things, sometimes your dogs weird behaviors that you dismiss as normal are actually signs of anxiety, pets experience anxiety much like we do, so please please please have your vet check them out if they are showing any of these signs, there is all sorts of medication that can help with this problem

What should I do with my cat?

Hi, here is a little background about my situation (sorry it’s long) I have two cats, a 3 year old female and an 1 year old male; my bf and I have been having issues with our 1 year old cat. He has way more energy than we were prepared for, and this has led to sleepless nights, lots of cat fights and damaged things such as the couch and some of my plants. I have not gotten a full night’s rest in over two weeks because of him, and I’m not sure how much more I can take. We try to play with him at night so he can get tired, but he constantly wakes me up in the morning by knocking things down, crying or fighting with my other cat. He also tends to bite/scratch our feet or fingers when we’re sleeping.

He constantly starts fights with my other cat, and I know she’s tired of it. She will be laying down or trying to sleep and he will go up to her and bite/smack her. I thought they were playing at first, but she hisses at him and they end up fighting even more. Another thing is that he likes to steal my other cats food and/or treats. I’ve had to separate their bowls because he’s leave my other cat with no food at all.

I love him and he can be so sweet at times, but because of all these issues, I don’t know how much longer we can take. I have no energy throughout the day because of this, and I don’t know what to do. My bf and I have thought about giving him away, but I want to give it another chance, so giving him away would be last resort. I hate the thought of giving him away, but I’m afraid that he’ll hurt my cat or one of us one day. What do you all suggest?

The green budgie shown here in the first two images has had a significant change in cere color. His cere was previously blue but I just noticed it has changed to brown. It looks nearly identical to the bird in the third image. More info in the comments.

Is it possible to get a cat to stop jumping off the top level of his cat tree?

My cat Gnocchi is a 15lb Ragdoll. We used to have a fully carpeted apartment, in which he would jump from the top of his 70" cat tree straight to the floor. The carpet acted as a cushion I guess. Well now we live in an apartment with vinyl flooring and I am not only worried about the noise, but also his bones/joints. When he jumps off the cat tree now it is a VERY loud thud which cannot be good for him. It is so loud that our downstairs neighbor came up and asked wtf we were doing. Luckily they were a cat lover and thought "potato dumpling" was a fitting name.

Besides the noise, I am worried he could hurt himself. Is there a way to train him not to leap off the top level of the cat tree, or should we just get a shorter cat tree? TIA

Is This How Vets Work?

My dog is 4 years old and I’ve been taking for her exams and vaccinations and all seemed to be going well regarding her health, however just recently she’s started having a bad itch that would keep her up at night and experienced diarrhea and vomiting. I took her to the vet but they just seemed to take my word about her symptoms then just gave her two shots and prescribed medicine. But I’m just concerned because wouldn’t they take some kind of sample from her to figure out the issue? It just seemed like they were trying to get her out quick because it was a busy day. I’ve never had any pets before my dog so I’m not sure if this is really how vets would handle something out of the ordinary.

Was it really normal for them to just take my word for it and just give her the shots and meds? I’ve never seen my dog this distressed before. She’s had diarrhea before but it was never this bad.

new cat is giving me anxiety

hi all! so a few days ago, i brought home a cat from a friend. for some background, my friend moved from the east coast to the west coast, and originally had gotten an airbnb to stay in that allowed pets. unfortunately, like a week before she moved, the airbnb owner told her she could no longer have pets because the previous tenants let their pets wreak havoc all over the place.

my friend's family was holding onto the cat for her for a while, but their landlord does not allow pets and they were going to take the cat to the shelter if i didn't take her in instead, which i offered to do. the only problem is, i already feel regret for it.

i've read articles online about remorse after pets and i'm curious if that's what it is, or if i'm just not ready to be a pet owner. the cat is about 5 and uses her litter box, but the issue is that she is extremely anxious and shy. she refuses to come out during the day, and will wake me up at anywhere from 12-5am by jumping on me or scratching my arm because she has energy. my boyfriend and i both need to be up early in the morning and can't keep losing sleep because of her, but there's literally no way i can give her attention during the day due to her hiding; when she wakes me up at night i'll get up to get water or something, and the minute i step foot on the ground she runs and hides. i just keep having awful remorse and anxiety, but i don't want to give her away since my friend has said that if she can find a new living situation in a year or two, she'd take the cat back. i just don't know if i can handle that long.

any advice would help! i'm just so stressed out all the time now.

My cat is so picky that she’d rather starve

I just moved across the country with my 7y/o cat. Things have been going very well and she seems very happy. Sometime last week her normal food ran out (its not sold in my new place) so I decided to swap her over to wet food until I could find a dry food she will eat/that is good for her.

The grocery store has ran out of her wet food so I tried different kinds that she refused to eat. I went to like 4+ stores yesterday that all either did not carry or have in stock the only flavor she’ll eat.

Going to check another one today and idk what I am going to do if they dont have it.

I try putting treats in the food and different temperatures/flavors/consistencies but shes not having it.

She wakes me up the entire night crying that she is starving despite how much food she is offered

any advice please

Looking for a little guidance about my dog.

First time on this subreddit so I hope this is the appropriate place to ask. I have a 13 year old Shepard/Husky that was a rescue which we got when he was 1. Last week he was diagnosed with bone cancer and the Vet who is just starting out suggested putting him to sleep.

He limps but otherwise seems normal in every way, enough so that we took his x-rays to another, more experienced Vet who said that if was his dog he would amputate the leg. In his opinion my dog has a good 2 - 4 more years left him. Now I don't know what to do. I don't want him to suffer in any way, but I also don't want to end his life prematurely if his quality of life is still there. Do any of you have any pets that have had a limb amputated? In what ways (besides the obvious) did it change their life? Anyone have any opinions or suggestions? I'm a little stunned right now and I'm not sure what to do. Thank you for reading this.

My cat is attacking my leg

My cat is about a year old. I got him when he was about two months old. I love him so dearly and he loves me. But he gets excited and wants my attention so he bites/scratches my leg. And I don’t mean just a nibble- I mean he literally draws blood until it’s dripping down my leg. My instinct obviously is to kick him off me but I’ve been trying to just ignore him when he does it. It seems to have a gotten a little better. I work long hours sometimes and I’ve been stressed so I’m sure he’s probably feeling that too. I try to play with him as much as I can. He is such a sweet boy and will cuddle up on me but when he gets in these moods I don’t know what to do. I find myself scared of my own cat especially when he’s hiding waiting to attack. I also NEVER want to accidentally hurt him while trying to get him off my leg. I’ve tried spraying him with water but it doesn’t seem too effective. Nothing really seems to bother him lol… anyway, does anyone have advice? I feel like I’ve searched the whole web trying to figure out something

Are air fresheners okay for dogs??

Now. I know the room sprays and stuff have toxins that over time can impact dogs’ health.

But I have conflicting views on the Glade Plug-ins/ B&BW Wallflowers….

Can anyone else let me know if these are okay to use?

Getting first dog with 8 year old cat- any suggestions??

We are getting a dog Saturday and we have a 8 year old cat at home who has always had the house to his self. Any suggestions how to make sure this introduction goes smoothly?? The foster said the dog does not chase cats and she just kind of stares at them but doesn’t do anything, I do plan on keeping them in separate rooms for a few days to get use to each others scents and will at first keep the dog on the leash in the house after they meet face to face and will not keep them unsupervised together for a very long time. Any other tips or suggestions would be great :) I’m extremely nervous! Lol

Help! My cat won't play by herself

Hi, am stuck in an interesting situation. My 1.5 year old kitty loves to play with her toys, which is great. But the problem is she refuses to play by herself and keeps bringing her toys to me asking me to play with her. While I would love to play with her all the time, unfortunately that isnt possible. I have tried my best to get her to play by herself while am working, but sadly nothing is working. Can anybody please help me with how to go about it. Thanks!

Baby bird, please help!

Hi guys. I found a baby bird (I'm assuming he's a week old) (Sparrow) 5 days ago in the middle of my driveway. I placed it somewhere safer before watching CCTV to see how it got there. I then went out to check and found 3 more chicks (Sadly dead) and mother bird (dead also) a cat had managed to get the nest. Anyway so I took this little guy in but he won't stop chirping. He's eating and drinking well, his feathers are coming through great but he won't shut up. The only time he is quite is when he's sat in my hand. I've made him warm little crochet bird nests, he absolutely loves them but still when he's sat in he chirps continuously until I either place my finger in the nest or hold the nest. At that point he'll go to sleep.

Is there any way to stop this? Anything I can do that will stop him from wanting my attention almost all day long?

Thanks.

My cat is enraged by our new dog

So, first of all, this is my first post, pardon me if I do anything wrong. I live in Brazil, so my english may be a bit odd.

My mom has a female cat named Viena, she is about 5 or 6 years old and she is really introspective. She doesn't like touch or pet, and she was castrated very late (after 3 pregnancies). She used to pass long times sleeping at home and then she was out for the night.

She had a problematic pregnancy about a year ago and gave birth to only one male cat that born without his right eye, so we kept him with us as she accepted him until about his first year. We named him "Pirate" as he lacks an eye, and he is very friendly and likes touch and humans, very opposite to his mother.

Now, about some months ago, she started to beat him, and pass more time outside home. She looks stressed and is not going home for days, only for eat and then go off.

To make things even worse for her, my mom dicided to adopt a dog, she is really mad and can't stand the dog and she is even avoiding Pirate and beating him for nothing (he doesn't defend himself as he is very naive and sweet).

Is there anything I can do to make things better?

Thanks for reading and for the help.

What size of dog harness should I get my beagle?

He’s 5mo old and his old collar no longer fits in so we’re looking on online shops to buy some and considering he’s 5mo old, he’s in a stage where he would reach his full height and I’m not sure what size should I give him. I’m planning to buy him a harness that can also be used when he reaches his full height which is around 8mo old.

Here are some sizes that the shop I would buy provided:

Medium * Adjustable Bust: 30-45cm * Leash: Length - 1.2m & Width - 2.0m * Weight: 160g

Large * Adjustable Bust: 41-68 * Leash: Length: 1.2 & Width - 2.5m * Weight: 250g

Which one do you think should I buy?
