What Service Do You Think Would Be Cool To See in A Pet Groomers

Hi everyone, I am working on opening up a pet groomer/boutique/boarding similar to vets, and I wanted to hear from other pet owners what they think a cool service to add would be. Maybe you’ve needed something and the groomer didn’t have it. Ive definitely got quite a few ideas, but want more!! Let me know even the craziest or smallest things. The more that sets me apart from competitors, the better.

If you failed to socialise your dog properlly that's on you...

When I've been at my friend's house his puppy (he had her for a few months) was really really anxious. She was barking, shaking like a jelly and hiding. I've never seen a dog so scared and I've interacted with a abused doggy before (the puppy isn't abused for sure, my friend adores her. He's also her first owner).

I found out what was the issue shortly after. I wanted to let her sniff my hand so she could feel just a littlebit safer but he wouldn't let me. He dragged her away and told me to "leave her alone, she clearly hates you".

I get it, it's your baby, you love her and want the best for her but it's not the way to go!! If she was a huge dog I'm sure she'd be more thritening and they would have to put her go sleep asap which is terrible!!

After my friend got buisy with something else I've let her sniff my hand a few times and gently touched her. After that even though she was still scared and unsure she wasn't running away from me and let me pet her. She even came to me and sniffed my back. She's adorable!!

Honestly, maybe I'm being harsh but I hate when people say " don't do that to that pet, they hate you" without seeing the full picture. All they look at is that certain interaction "dog barked at this person, this person is the problem" which can be but is not always the case.

Years ago two of my cousins loved to play with my cat, Julia, which lead to fighting. She got so traumatised she was shaking whenever she saw them. Once I was talking with my aunt and mum in the kitchen, holding her while she was purring. When my cousin came in she got scared again and my aunt said "look, she has enough of you, let her go!!". Then my cousin backed her up and tried to take her away from me, which was really annoying. Long story short, I let her go but played it off like she ran away..

Need help with my cat

My 4 year old cat always lays on my chest. She will be gentle and just sit there for a while. But occasionally I’ll feel her go to bite my face, hard. I’ll push her face gently away from mine or put my hand between her and me. She always manages to get around it and bites. Help?

What Do I Need To Administer Vaccinations in my Small Business?

Hi all, I am opening a pet salon here in Florida, and was curious on what it takes to add pet vaccinations as a service (such as rabies, bordatella, distemper, etc.). I want to be able to offer these for times when pet parents haven’t taken their pets to the vet, but what do I need for the other groomers and I to legally administer them? Will a veterinarians assistant certification work? Also, if anyone has any ideas on how to work around this, let me know! TIA

How can an animal or a dog die all of a sudden without any cause nor any reason?

Hey everyone I want to know, how could this ever happened, ok I was sad and couldn't even cry much, I hide my tears but cried alone in my room, and I just don't understand how could this happened.... So first of all umm I love all kinds of animals, I have had chickens, dogs, rabbits cats, birds basically lol, my favorite animals are cats. But we're going to talk about a dog, okay, so here's the story, first of all 2 years ago, my sister and I saw a stray dog, we thought it was a girl (female dog) because of the way he was acting like moving and then throwing himself to the floor and rolling lol (I think most female dogs do that right? Well idk ok).

So then we just don't know who's this dog belong to, and we were almost always everyday at our front house, to see if by any chance someone would come up and recognize their dog, but nothing ever happened, the dog was never neutered nor microchipped, so we kept the dog, only for 2 years. Sorry if the name sounds funny, but umm we just decided to named him Bart, we got that name for him because my momm just called him "Bartolo" in Spanish, and in English it's "Bartolomeo or Bartholomew" like Bart from the Simpsons, So we just stick with the name Bart.. OK, so here the sad part I don't understand, first of all when humans we get sick, we are sad and hurt and then afterwards we get better, yet we always go to the clinics or hospitals and buy medicines. And we take our pets to the vet and buy them medicines too..

Well Bart will always get sick and then he'll get better again, we always buy him medicine, but he was never like so ill , maybe it's our fault we never take him to the vet, because we thought the dog was always more healthy than sick, he will eventually get better in times and run and play around with my other dogs and cats and just going to the street..

Bart was very smart whenever he crossed the street, just like a human, he will always look or double check both sides before crossing the street, my other dog Spike can't do that one time he got hit by a car and they accidentally hit him on the face, but he's alright nothing happened, because when he got hit they push him off to the grass and then Spike just randomly got up like nothing happened, but he was bleeding bad and was sad and hurt, and we gave him medicine it's the white bottle and it has like a beige color cream ok..

So few days ago, my aunt noticed the dog was sad(I didn't know but she and my sister told me how it happened) My aunt and sister told me, Bart was sad and didn't want to eat no more... My mom and I had never seen him that way, I couldn't understand nothing from him yet, and then my sister thought maybe he's just sad for the moment, he'll probably be better again by tomorrow.

But it was too late, in the morning, they found Bart dead, I thought at first, someone ran over him (but then on second thought I was like nah, impossible bec Bart was always careful) I never never never like any dogs cats or chickens crossing the street I just don't like that, because people always drives like crazy and they kill animals and they just never stop to help!!.. But my sister said no one hit or ran over Bart, he just died all of a sudden, he died for no reason.. And on second thought, I said to my family, maybe someone else poisoned him.. But I don't understand the cause, how he died.

I made a mistake : littermate syndrome

I got a puppy a month ago, i settled for it she wasn’t my “dream puppy”. I found a maltipoo, which is what I always wanted. I’m now worried they will have littermate syndrome, I’m having doubts and reading about LMS , I think i’ll have to return her . She’s the cutest little bean, but I feel bad for my #1 already I feel like I’m replacing her . Anybody who bought two puppies at once ?

Young cat keeps bothering new senior dog

I just brought home a 7yr old female dog named Strawberry from the shelter a few days ago. My cat Sampson is only a few months old and very hyper/nosey. Neither have any problems per say with the other species but Sampson keeps bothering Strawberry by trying to get her food or treats. Strawberry growls for a good second but Sampson doesn't back off. The dog has lunged twice and I've had to break up a fight It doesn't help that Strawberry was spayed before coming home and she's in pain.

What I've been doing is separating them during the day while I'm at work and then switching the rooms at night while I sleep then letting them mingle in the afternoons. Is there anything else someone could recommend? It's mostly the cat demanding he get her food/treats and the dog growling when he comes too close.

Should my cat be taken to the vet.

One of our cats was sneezing the other day. It has gotten better after a couple days. But now my other cat is sneezing as well. He seems to be having more of congestion that the other. His mouth is open like a person would having a cold and hard to breathe through nose. Is there anything I could do for him before taking him to the vet. I have put up a humidifier for him to see if that helps. I move it around when he leaves the room. I just took him to the vet about 2 weeks ago because he had some sort of seizure. The bloodwork came back good and the only reason we can see it happened is because it looked like there were bite marks on a cord to a fan where it happened.

Do I wait a couple days to see if he gets better? He just started doing it last night.

My dog licked my mouth and the small wound on my wound. He doesn't show any sign of rabies and he is not aggresive. I got a fever and chills yesterday (I was licked 4 days ago) I also got body pain, muscle pains and headache. Im having anxiety and stressed out since i got licked, i kept googling and and it says that if a dog doesn't show any clinical signs of rabies (or rabies is on incubation period) he cannot transfer rabies. Abandoned cat.

My neighbor has abandoned their cat. TW: possible dead kittens

The cat has been outside for 3 months now.

Any time I try to talk to the neighbor, she ignores me. She didn't move, she just simply put the cat outside and stopped taking care of it.

At first I wasn't sure if that was the case. I live in a small city and a lot of people have indoor/outdoor cats, it was summer and warm at the time and I thought that might be what was happening. Specially since she got the cat about a year ago. I didn't agree with it, I mentioned it to our landlord bit I didn't fuck with it.

After awhile and it started to get colder, the cat getting thinner and dirtier and no longer having a collar, I mentioned it to the landlord again. He said she was trying to re-home the cat. Maybe true, but the rehoming never happened.

Another month went by and the cat had clearly gotten pregnant. I mentioned it again to the landlord who just repeated that the neighbor was trying to re-home the cat. At this point I even offered to foster or re-home the cat for her and he said he would contact her and sent me some pictures of the cat.

I offered to do this even though, I myself have a cat that DOES NOT get along with other cats. Meaning this cat would be living in a bathroom until a new home was found, and I wouldn't be able to bring her to the vet as that would get rid of emergency money that I would need if my own cat needed to go to the vet and he is nearing elderly age. (He is 14, he doesn't show any signs of being elderly yet but still I don't want to be unprepared to care for my own cat)

The cat quickly disappeared for about two weeks. And when she returned she was extremely thin and dirty. I started feeding her again, assuming she had given birth I was following her to find her kittens. But she never brought me to them, regardless of the cat seeming to trust me a great deal.

This past week. After about a week of trying to find her kittens and the days getting cold, some even below freezing and now snow on the forecast, I decided to bring her to the humane society. They said they can't take her as the neighbor, despite abandoning her has to bring her in themselves because they haven't moved. And that even if she did they can't take her without her kittens, even though I noted that the kittens were no where to be found.

They told me to bring her back and release her. And I did. I have tried following her on several occasions still and she just beings me to my own doors now, as she now wants to come in, I would too if I were here.

The humane society gave me the number for the SPCA (I had already called the police and they didn't do anything). The SPCA took the report but nothing has happened yet. The cat is clearly cold and dirty. And I just have no idea what the fuck to do.

What do?????

TL;DR the humane society turned the cat away because the neighbor hasn't moved even tho she is clearly abandoned her. She needs to go to the vet but I can't really spare that money or bring her into my house. and the SPCA has yet to do anything. What should I do?

Cat Came Home A Little More Wild

I found a stray cat 7 years ago and house broke him, he became a beloved family member with a tonne of personality. Two days ago he got out at night (Ontario, Canada), it was just below freezing. We had hope he might be alright because he was a stray originally. Mind you now he has no front claws, is neutered and a fat house cat. He came back last night after a day of searching for him, put our clothes out, food, blankets. Since he got back he’s been more like himself 7 years ago, less cuddly, more into his hunting toys(stuffed mice). I attribute this to his natural defence and predatory systems kicked in during his adventure and it’ll take time for him to readjust. Its just wild how he’s a different cat after 24 hours outside. Anyone know anything about this?

Lack of Affection from female cat.

I brought in some homeless kitten a few months ago, and she STILL dodges my attempts to pet her, she doesn't like to stay in my bed (but she stays in my sisters bed), she only approaches me when I have food, doesn't rub herself on me etc.

I would have thought after almost 4 months, she would be more affectionate, but she still treats me strictly as a food source. It's been a long time since I've had a cat, but even I remember that cats are generally more affectionate than this.

Hell, I recently came across a friend's cat, and the cat actually butted her head into my hand so I could pet her, and she enjoyed it as well. This made me wonder what's wrong with my cat.

My hamster passed after 2 days and I don’t know what to do

So I bought my Gf and I a hamster for a laugh. Made sure she had a big bin cage with tons of hamster safe materials. She hadn’t even filled her cheeks since she came home. She made her little burrow in the corner and stayed there. Tonight when I got home, I ran upstairs to see that she was laying on her side not breathing. I tried putting her in a warm towel but she passed in my hands. Looked at her bum and it was wet. Would petsmart do a return? Does it have to be an exchange? Sick rat update

So it's been a few more hours, and her lump is now purple. She now has very visible breathing troubles and her stomach area is still swollen. I understand the lump could be a tumor/abscess but that doesn't explain the stomach swelling. Oh also, I had to separate her from her cagemate because she kept biting her neck and dragging into a corner. Anyone know what that's about? They've never been aggressive with each other until the other got sick. (My non sick rat biting my sick rat for clarification) I have pictures now, but they aren't the best because of where it is.

TIPS for beginner cat owners!

I just adopted a cat but this is the stuff working best for me that I found out through just trying stuff out.

  1. When you bring the cat home, close doors you don’t want it to go into such as certain bedrooms or offices etc. then let the cat roam. They’ll probably do this for the first week just to get a good feel of your house, especially if it’s big.

  2. Sometimes cats won’t eat a lot on their first days at your house. However, a trick I found out is that if you guide them to their bowl with a treat, they’ll eat. At least mine did anyway.

  3. If they’re not sleeping in their bed and prefer other places, like YOUR bed, it could just be that they like the texture of your blanket. I put my blanket in my cats bed and now he’s asleep there!

  4. Cats like to be stimulated so if you can, get a fountain water bowl.

  5. Cats sometimes pick favorites and it could be because of your scent or how much time you spend with them.

  6. If they’re tail is up in the air, it means they’re being friendly right now.

  7. They love catnip.

  8. It may take a while for cats to actually use their litterbox but they will eventually find it and use it. Also, clean their box out every 2-3 days. If you clean it out every day, they will expect it to be clean before they use it.

  9. If they’re sneezing a lot it could be an upper respiratory infection (aka the cold), so take your kitty to the vet. It’s not life threatening or THAT serious.

  10. Lint rollers are your best friend! :))

Hope you enjoyed these tips! These are just things I’ve noticed and I am in no shape or form a cat expert.

Pet insurance you use for your cat(s)?

I need to get my cat in for a check up and I’ve been looking into insurances to get before I do that. I’ve never done this before, I have no idea how it works or what places are good. I found a seemingly good plan from Major Medical that is 15.17$ a month, but there is another that is 33.17$ a month. I’m not sure if I’d even be able to afford the second one right now, but if I could, I worry that maybe I should choose that one instead. I don’t know if it’s worth it especially when it doesn’t seem like my cat has any problems.

15$ plan Accidents and illness Some hereditary problems Cancer Use any vet, including speciality 24/7 vet helpline

33$ plan Accidents and illness Some hereditary problems Cancer Use any vet, including speciality 24/7 vet helpline Wellness exams Vaccinations Flea and heart worm prevention Blood work Urinalysis

I’m thinking the second is better if I can afford it and would love other recommendations too.

Transporting a cat across the country?

Neighbor's male cat won't leave my female cat alone

This morning, my cat, who is in heat, went up onto our roof and into our ceiling, and she hasn't gone down since (it's been a whole day). Our neighbor's male cat is on there too, and I'm worried he's gonna get her pregnant and I don't really want to deal with any more kittens. I wouldn't mind if I had the money to support a lot of cats, but I'm just a college student and I'm broke, plus I don't really want to contribute to the overpopulation of cats since there are already too many stray cats/homeless cats in animal shelters. I'm still saving up to get her spayed which is why she isn't spayed yet, but with this whole thing going on I might borrow money from a friend so she can finally get spayed and I wouldn't have to worry about her getting accidentally pregnant anymore. Does anybody have any idea how to make my cat come down from the roof? I tried to get the male cat off of there but he hissed at me, so I backed off because he might get aggressive. I tried to make my cat come down with her toys and food, but I think the male cat brings her food he scavenged on the streets so she doesn't get hungry and come down to search for food. I'm also worried she might actually be injured which makes her incapable of going down, but I have no way to know for sure because I can't really see her as she is inside our ceiling. Please help :( if she gets pregnant, my plan is to get her spayed (while pregnant) and if she ends up giving birth to the kittens, I'd just put them up for adoption.

TL;DR: cat, in heat, stuck inside the ceiling with a neighbor's male cat; I'm worried she's injured/might get accidentally pregnant, need help getting her and other cat down.

I need some advice on a quality of life decision. I’ve never had to make this sort of decision before.

Hello everyone. I have a 12 year old bichon shitzu Yorkie. He started being itchy a few years ago. We have tried apoquel, anti histamines, special shampoos, and nothing seems to make it better. The vet took a biopsy of his skin and there is nothing of note. We’ve tried feeding him simple foods including just rice for a week to see if it was dietary but no changes.

A) any other suggestions B) at what point do we put him down. He is just scratching and bitting himself constantly. Obviously this is a last resort, he is a family member but we don’t want him to be suffering.

Thanks!

Best way to feed a cat?

So I got a cat for the first time in my life (I found her inside my garage), she's 4 months old, and my vet told me to feed her twice a day with wet food (around 11/12.00 and 19/20.00) and to have a bowl filled with kibble there.

is this a good way to feed my cat? if so can you recommend a good brand for food?

My older cat seems super stressed out by kitten

So I adopted a kitten almost two months ago. My cat wasn't happy the first time I brought him home but she came around and they ended up playing with each other and grooming each other every day. She by no means was at the point of loving him but she seemed to enjoy his presence.

Flash forward to today, my kitten had a vet appointment 5 days ago ( this is his second vet appt after adoption so I know how cats can be territorial when you bring them back into the house) but this time something seems to have switched in her. She doesn't want to play with him. It's as if she is super anxious around him. She constantly hisses and growls at him and kinda screams if he were to play with her. I don't know what is going on. Is this normal? Is there something I can do to help her? It's just frustrating because they were so good before this second vet appointment

Two male kittens won't stop beefing with each other

Hi Everyone - looking for advice on introducing 2 kittens, Archie (siamese cross, noy desexed yey, 4 months old) and Humphrey (scottish straight, desexed, 3 months old).

We have had Archie for 2 months. He is very boisterous and playful. I suspect he was taken from his mum a little too early. I picked Humphrey up from his home today. Humphrey is a little timid, but very calm and cuddly.

I introduced the two today - Humphrey was im his carrier and Archie was free roaming. Archie instantly became hostile i.e. Hissing, attempting to swat. Humphrey was suprisingly calm.

We separated them after a while into their own spaces. I stayed with Humphrey until he settled. We slowly introduced the two again, they were great for about 10 mins, then I needed to remove Archie. I reintroduced them once again - where I played with Archie (distracting him from Humphrey). They happily ignored each other for 30 mins before fighting again 😅

Any tips for the upcoming week of them getting used to each other? I really want them to be lifelong companions.

New cat is eating hair ties etc

Hi, we recently got a new cat (Laszlo), he's approx 11 months old. We got him from my hubby's co-worker who was rehoming him as she was never home. She got him from her vet nurse sister, after he was abandoned and brought into her clinic by someone who found him.

When we picked him up, the co-worker didn't have a bowl but instead some sort of feeding contraption. It had different levels and holes where the cat reaches in to push the dry food down. She said it makes him feel like he's foraging for food, which is in his nature. After that first night where everyone was kept awake by every single bit of food dropping echoing through the house, we got him a regular bowl. He's also only been on dry food and when I tried to introduce some wet food he had the runs pretty bad, so at this point I'm happy to keep him on the dry with plenty of water. I added all this in case it's relevant to his abnormal eating habit.

So he's been eating random stuff on the ground, most commonly hair ties and small toy parts my kids leave around. I find out after he spews and I find the stuff in there. He's an indoor only cat so I'm trying to ensure the floors are clean as possible come night (that's when he's most active and I can't keep an eye on him). I know this can't be healthy, is there any way to deter this? He also eats more food than the recommendation on the pack, I'm constantly topping his bowl up so I feel it's definitely not a case of him being hungry. He's a chunky boy. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Edit to add: a cpl days before we picked him up, my hubby painted our new internal doors. We caught the cat a few times sitting in front of a door licking it.

Should I get a dog if I work full time and am single?

I'm 26 and moving to a new apartment next year. I will be living alone and I was thinking of getting a pet to keep me company. The apartment allows pets.

I used to have pet dogs as a child but honestly my family wasn't great with animals and a lot of those pets ended up getting run over by cars or escaping from our house and stolen. We normally had toy dogs as I grew up so they were easily stolen where I lived. So I definitely know having a dog is a huge responsibility but I think I am ready now.

Anyway, my job is pretty stressful,I leave the house around 6 in the morning and I don't get home until around 7 at night. During those hours I literally have no one at the apartment to take care of the dog. I was wondering if it was possible for dogs to be alone for such long hours. I'm not sure because my mother was a stay at home parent when I was growing up so there was always someone around but it's not like that now.

My sister suggested getting a cat but I don't really like cats so if I can't get a dog I was wondering if there is any other alternative like a pet that doesn't require so much care.

I was thinking of getting a small aquarium of fish or an ant farm instead but tbh I really want a dog but I just don't want to be an irresponsible pet owner.

Dog bit my brother twice... don't know what to do.

So... I have a husky. We got her from a shelter and they told us that we were her third owners. Her first one was a breeder, second was a family who said that she kept guarding her food and growling. Progress to get her warmed up to the family was hard, but there has been significant progress. She reacts friendlier in most parts, altho she still has her moments and certain times of the day.

Now upon 2 ish 3 ish months we got her, she bit my 11yr old brother. He got a puntured face wound. From what I understood, he wanted to kiss her head, got too close to her face, and she felt threatened. My dad got real mad and already repremmemded her. 1st time.

2nd time which is now, she bit my bro again for getting too close to her face or maybe her general vicinity? He got another puncture wound right below his eye. My dad reprimanded her again to let her know what she did is unacceptable.

Now, my family is all discussing on how to move on. She has never bit any of my other family members. She seems to not like my brother more than any of us (which I still dont get cause he's not a bad kid or torments her other than maybe getting too close to her? My other dog also doesnt like my bro which is weird.)

If we keep her, its almost like waiting for another bite (3rd one) to my brother, which at that point my dad would never ever keep her. If we give her back to the shelter, its almost condemning her cause not a lot of people would want a dog thats been given back to the shelter 3 times and has a history of biting and being aggressive. We might euthanize her (i know very last resort) which is just fucking depressing. My dad suspects she might be wrong in the head.

I genuinely dont know whats better anymore. She can be a very sweet and loving dog but family comes first. And we just dont know if she will bite again.

Any advice?

Heavy duty cat toys

Hello!!

I am hoping that I can get recommendations on some heavy duty cat toys. Particularly ones that make noise. My kitty loves them, but the typical ones I get from the pet store get shredded in less than a day. 😨 Much appreciated!

Adopting a feral/stray cat

There is this feral cat that lives around our apartment complex. Honestly, I'm not even sure she could classify as feral. Everyone has been collectively feeding and loving on her so she is very tame and affectionate. Since it has started to get cold, my husband really wants to take her in and adopt her as ours. We brought her into the apartment and she warmed up VERY quickly, but as I have never brought in a cat from outside before, I was hoping for some advice on how to help domesticate her. We're going to bring her in to the vet in the morning for a wellness check and plan on getting her fixed as soon as possible, she recently had kittens which didn't survive.

She already seems to trust us. She is very affectionate and has been playing with toys, eating some (we're trying not to give her too much at once as she's very small), and using the scratchers already. She's sleeping in my lap now.

Since we brought her in, we closed my other cat off. She has been spraying around the house in seemingly random areas. What is the best way to introduce her to my cat who is already here? He is around 3 years old and she is seemingly pretty young. Also, does anyone have any advice on the spraying? I know that being wild, she is prone to doing it anyway.

Also, what is the best way to teach her to use a litterbox? My current cat is on pelleted wood litter. Is there a way to start her on it or should we try the usual cat litter than transition from that?

While I understand the warnings against attempting to domesticate a wild cat, my husband and I decided she would be happier to have someplace warm since she is already so loving towards people. We won't force her to stay. If all doesn't go well and she seems unhappy she can easily go back to her life before.

My husky doesn’t ask to go out. What can I do?

As the title says, I have a 2 year old female husky who has been pooping in the house. She doesn’t alert me when she needs to go to the bathroom and when I’m in another room not watching her, she promptly poops. For example, I just went to the bathroom and was in there for 5 minutes and within that time she had pooped. No barking, whining, coming to the door, coming to me. I just smelled it and knew it was her.

I wish it was because I was neglecting taking the dogs out because then Id know the solution, but it’s not. I have 2 huskies, her and her brother. Her brother barks and whines when he needs to go and I recognize the sign and take them out to our yard. That’s what I did tonight. He pooped and she drank water, peed and walked around and then they both came back to the door to be let in. I let them stay out as long as they want and stand out there with them and they signal to be let back inside by coming and sitting at my feet. Well, that’s what they did and then 2 minutes after we went inside, she poops on my kitchen floor.

It’s seriously driving me crazy. I don’t know what to do or how to get her to signal me. She also only poops in the house when I’m not watching her, so I don’t even know what her signal is! And it’s just not possible for me to be there with her every second of the day when I’m at home (I’m 7 months pregnant and I need to pee...a lot).

I’d love some advice!

Cat drama!

Hi guys! So I need some help. We have three cats, ages 5 (Houdini), 6 (Hendrix), and 3 (Delia). I've had Houdini since he was a kitten, Delia since she was around 3-6 months old, and we adopted Hendrix almost two years ago. Here's our issue- Hendrix has not adapted to the other two AT ALL. When they get anywhere near him he hisses and goes into defense mode. Our other cats used to hiss back or even try to swat/charge (at which time we separated them again IMMEDIATELY) but that behavior from their end is long gone (last incident was probably a year ago). But Hendrix still does not want anything to do with them. We recently moved and beforehand Hendrix was condemned to our bedroom and we have been keeping all doors open in the new place to maybe try and help him adjust but he hides under our bed basically 24/7 other than sleeping on the bed with us at night. We have occasionally caught all three on the bed together, which is definitely progress at least. At this point we have tried multiple types of separation/reintroduction, Feliway diffusers, calming treats, prescribed anxiety meds from our vet and absolutely nothing has helped whatsoever. I almost feel at this point it's best to just keep him isolated in our room but I also don't want him to miserable confined to one room forever and deny our other cats access to us. I also don't think it's a medical condition either, due to the fact that Hendrix sees the vet regularly.

Cat won't stop scratching flat surfaces??? Please help!!!!!

First of all, please let me know if there is a better sub to post this to, I am desperate for advice. I can't seem to find anything about this specific issue online, Reddit or otherwise.

TL;DR: I'm at my wit's end trying to get my cat to stop scratching Every Flat Surface in my house.

I adopted this lovely tortie about a year ago. She is 3, she is the light of my life, but her fatal flaw is that she will not stop scratching flat surfaces. She did not do this when we first got her, though I can't quite remember when she started. She scratches the banister of the stairs, the kitchen cabinets, the walls, the doors, my bedframe (which is particularly bothersome), and she even jumps on the table the TV is on to scratch the screen!! And today I saw her scratching the mirror for the first time. She does not scratch the couch or anything plush, and she has multiple scratching posts and a cat tower with scratching posts as well. She very recently started using her scratching post, but it is seldom.

The thing is, I don't really care about damage being caused. She isn't leaving marks on anything, so that's fine. It's the noise. She does this for HOURS starting in the evening and will not stop, and I am losing sleep over it. It's like nails on a chalkboard times a million. I would die for her to destroy the couch.

She does not care about spray bottles. She doesn't enjoy being sprayed but she hardly flinches from it. She does not care about citrus scents either. She stops scratching when she hears me get out of bed, and then goes back to it within minutes. I'm sure you can imagine how aggravating that gets. I've put double sided tape on the cabinets, which is deterring her for now but I can't put double sided tape on the TV and on the mirror, etc. As soon as one place she likes to scratch is eliminated she just fixates on another!

For the record, she is well-played-with, she has plenty of toys, and I get new ones from time to time as enrichment. I work at an animal shelter, so I'd like to think I'm doing everything right, but I truly don't know how to stop this. To my knowledge, nail caps or kitten mittens wouldn't exactly be a good long term solution, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about that.

If you read all that, thanks. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I don´t know how to get my dog to the vet

I think my 9 year old brown lab dislocated her hips last night, and when I tried to take her to the vet she simply did not want to get up, and when I tried carrying her (with help of another person), she let out the most horrifying cry I have heard from her. Another problem is that because of Covid, the vet I go to is always very full because of the way they are accepting and treating pets. I don´t know what to do and I am scared because I heard that not treating a dislocated hip quickly can cause other major problems in the future, any ideas?

About to adopt a cat

Hello. I have been dealing with a mouse problem in my house again. As a solution I'll be adopting a cat. I've owned cats in the past, however, I have a new question that I haven't dealt with in the past.

I have read essential oils are not safe, therefore I am putting my little bottles in a drawer where the cat cannot go. I have other oils though, like body oil, Argan face and hair oil, and a blueberry body and hair oil. Also shower oils that contain essential oils. I want to be able to use these for beauty care but I'm scared of getting any in contact with the cat. Obviously it would absorb into my hair and skin. However, won't it get on my bedsheets and hands etc? I'm nervous about the cat coming into contact.

Does anyone have experience here?

My Kitten Is Destructive and I've Tried Everything- Please Help!!

Sorry the format, I'm on mobile

Hello! Wanted to start this of by saying that I love my kitty very much, but my boyfriend and I are very frustrated with her and have tried everything we could find on the internet. Now I'm on my next attempt to find a solution before it gets too bad. So, about two months ago I got an adorable little kitten (4 months old) named Aurora. My bf helped me pick her out because while I adore cats, I don't know much about them (he does). At the adoption center she was very curious and explorative, as well as very loving. She wasn't our first pick, but she grew on us fast. We took her home and everything was great! She ended up staying mainly at my bf's apartment (we live in the same complex) and all of her many toys, scratching posts, and her tree are located there. We were able to find ways to correct scratching (kitty caps and redirection as well as special sprays to put on the things she bit and scratched), and for the most part that stopped. She also started jumping up the blinds, but we figured out that was for attention once we were able to get her to stop biting at the blinds. We ignore her or redirect her when she does this. Recently, she's been attempting to drink out of my bf's water glass on his desk. He or I will clap loudly to divert her, tell her no sternly, move her to direct her, and even ignored her Still didn't stop her. And she knocked the glass over, spilling half a cup of water all over his desk ruining his keyboard. Thankfully it didn't get into his very expensive computer. She's also torn up toilet paper (not on the roll, but just sitting in storage) and likes to chew on every piece of plastic she can possibly find. She neglects her multiple scratching posts and has started scratching furniture again. She does none of this when we are not around her as far as we can tell, and we make sure to reserve at LEAST an hour or more for play time both in the morning before school/work and in the evening during her nightly zoomies. She's now almost 6 months old and I don't know what to do. I don't want to take her back, I love her lots! And she can be such a sweetheart. We've tried isolation (putting her in the bathroom for 10 minutes directly after her doing something bad to show that we are not going to give attention) and she gets very cuddly and snug after that, but It doesn't seem to deter her actions once she's back out. She never meows for attention and we've seen her try to do things slyly, poised to run away in case we clap at her. She KNOWS she shouldn't be doing those things.
What do I even try next? Could her food be causing this? When we got her we switched her to a different food after a week and while she loves it, that's when this started happening. We both love her and have scoured the internet to try and find what to do, but we're getting fed up. Just an hour ago she tried to knock his water over AGAIN while he was giving her scritches and playing with her. She wanted no part in the playing, just went and knocked the glass. She does stuff like that a lot too. She doesn't want to play and she has plenty of food and water.

*My bf wants me to specify that she's not knocking the glass over, she's sticking her head in it and pulling down instead of trying to pull back up.

Any help would much appreciated! Thanks so much!

If the hopes are to neuter every pet, how are we going to have progressive generations of cats and dogs?

I understand limiting the homeless cat population outside but for the cats that are going to hopefully be adopted anyway, how do we plan to have successive generations of these pets?

Eventually won't we just be left with designer pets and have some kinds of cats go extinct?

I've always wondered this but as I've thought deeper about the process, it seems like we're putting ourselves into a hole.

Help me tame these caged birds

I got these cockatiels, but their previous owner kept them in a cage for most of the time. I have the birds with me and for a while I’ve been trying to get them tamed. It’s kinda hard ngl. I got four birds in one huge cage, but I’m getting a second cage to put 2 in n each. 3 of them are grey and one of them is white, and the white one is really mean to the other birds, like he will fight with the other birds for no reason. Thats another reason of getting another cage so it will be more easy to try to tame and get a bond with them. I’ll put my hand in their cage over and over everyday , I offer them treats, Try to get them to hop on my finger, talk to them, but they’re always really scared and start trying to run away. I also try to take these birds showers time to time, but it’s hard when they’re scared of you. I’m trying to tame these birds so I can see them happy, so I was wondering if you guys have any tips to tame birds who’ve been caged most of their lives? I watched videos but they still don’t help, plz if anybody has any tips for this situation please send.

My cats has gone missing in a unique way. And the anxiety is killing me.

My outdoor access cat has gone missing for a month now. It was a female that was 3 years old and is spayed and micro chipped and she went missing with a collar on her with our number on it. Not the situation is a bit unique as first we live in a apartment complex on the first floor with a small front yard. There are no garages and stuff like that. And she went missing when my mom were out on a walk with our dogs in the forest. She follows us on the dog walk so she was with my mom in the forest. She just suddenly dashed away. She knows how to climb up and down trees and the forest isn't that big. It's surrounded by neighbourhoods. It's getting kind of cold and we think she might have run off to one of the neighbourhoods because we got some tips from there. We have done all the normal stuff like searching and putting up posters. We can't putt out the litter box because we through away the litter before we knew you could use it. She is a capable cat. She is good at hunting and stuff and there are no predators in our area so she should be alive i just think she is lost somewhere. Do you have any advice or similar stories any help or positive stories would be amazing. We live in Sweden btw.

Urinary tract issues and diet

Four days ago my cat Kiwi (F, only pet, 5 years old, siberian, fixed, indoor only, 5,5 kg (12 lbs)) had some issues with urinating. She was frequently peeing, straining in litterbox, had blood in her urine, constantly licking her butt. We have never experienced this before but i knew that the reason could be cyctitis, urinary tract infection, crystals etc. I started researching further and learnt that urinary tract bloackage could also be the culprit and it was a serious condition that requires immediate invervention. I freaked out as i live in a town that doesn't have any vet clinics or experienced vets and i had to take her to city (2 hours away) for help. It was late and we couldn't find a ride so my father called a vet asking for an advice, they advised pain relieving+antispasmodic shots and a medicine for relieving urinary tract issues. We gave her shots and pill, i also made her drink lots of water using a syringe. I took her to Baku (I live in Azerbaijan) following morning. Vet took her temperature (it was normal), did a physical examination with his hands and told me that her bladder was soft and he didn't feel any hardness/blockage etc. He asked some questions and said that it is probably either cyctitis or inflamation/infection. He sent us for x-rays and blood analysis to another clinic. Her bladder was empty (she was constantly peeing at home and i didn't give her any water before traveling) so he said urine analysis wan't possible. We went there, they took x-ray and draw blood for analysis and told me they'll send results to our vet once it is ready. X-ray technician didn't see any stones/blockage etc. We returned to vet's office waited for results for a few hours but they were delayed. It was getting late (i waited too much in both clinics) so vet gave me some antibiotic shots, a liquid medicine for helping crystals/minerals and told me to continue pain relieving+antispasmodic shots+medicine that he advised before. He gave her first dose of shots/medicine while we were there and told me to put her on a special diet for 2 weeks. Normally she eats R/ C (british shorthair) as dry food and 1 pack felix wet food in every other day. I was also giving her greek yoghurt (we always have that at home, my mom makes it) sometimes a little bit cheese, smetana, cooked chicken breast/veal/fish, egg yolk (boiled), small amount of milk etc. Vet told me that i should absolutely refrain from giving her anything else other than her prescription food (R/ C urinary tract dry+wet food) for 2 weeks. Even greek yoghurt wasn't allowed. After returning home she ate some dry food and i gave her water with syringe again.

Following day my father called vet to learn about results, he said that x-ray seemed normal but he didn't receive blood results yet. I gave her wet food she liked it but she doesn't seem to like her dry food. She is a fussy one knowing this i should have bought 14 packs of wet food instead of 7 (R/ C wet food got very expensive in recent years here thats the reason we switched to felix). I also thought that urinary tract issues usually require lifelong management to minimize reoccurrings, it could be financially hard for us to buy prescription wet food all the time. Today was the same i gave her a wet food again and she had only a few kibbles.

What can i give her if she refuses to eat her prescription dry food? There aren't many brands here unfortunately and she is a picky eater.

Why yoghurt was also prohibited? I didn't see any reason for it cause problem, i was giving her to make sure she receives more wet stuff/fluids. I know how important water is for cats. Assuming she'll heal after her treatment i'm supposed to make sure it doesn't reoccur. We can't afford switching to R/ C prescription wet food as her main diet.

What advice can you give, how was your experience with urinary tract problems and how did you manage it if you did?

She had 2 waterbowls (i got her another one so 3 now) and i refresh them every day. We even stop moving when she is drinking water or else she gets distracted and doesn't drink. I want to buy water fountain but i haven't seen it any of petshops i've been while in Baku (our town doesn't have petshop either). What else i can do to make her drink more water?

I apologise for lengthy post and my english.

Why is my dog so unempathetic towards me?

I used to have a siamese cat since he was a baby, and I was a child. He wasn’t the most friendly cat ever, but whenever I felt sad or cried, he would lay on my chest and purr, or follow me around the house. He passed away at age 10 from a heart attack.

We then adopted a puppy which turned out to be a greyhound mix. She was abandoned but we took her in when she was a month old, now she’s 2 years old. She dislikes children, strangers, so you know she ain’t the most friendly dog either. When I’m in a nice mood, she’ll follow me around, wanna play and generally cuddles a lot. But when I’m sad, she’ll look at me wide eyed and runs away.

I’d really love if she was more empathetic towards me, as it makes me feel even worse her reaction. Is there any way I can teach her to just stay? Or my relationship with my cat was different as we grew up together?

I had this abandoned kitten in my house for a few days, before a friend of mine adopted it. It had fleas, and now I found one on the floor. What happens with fleas in the house when the animal is gone? Can they reproduce without a host? Since apparently they won't find one in a human. Will they just die out, or do I have a big problem now? Can some of my friends who have a pet, catch them and transfer them to their pet?

I think my cat hates me and it's making me feel like shit. Please help.

Hi Reddit!

I've had my cat, Ginger, for around 10 years now. I love her so much and I would do anything for her. Ginger is a stray who ended up becoming our cat. Another cat I had 10 years ago brought her home after he got her pregnant. He left but she's been with us ever since having babies multiple times with other cats giving us some very cute kittens who would inevitably leave after 7 months or so. We have tons of stray cats in and around where we live and we always give them food if they come home. Some of these cats obviously get more friendly and end up staying with us. That's kind of the problem.

Ginger had the operation (got her spayed) a couple of years ago and she's become so much more affectionate and happy ever since. We're equally happy that she doesn't have to get pregnant anymore because it was obvious she hated it towards the end. It's just that she hates kittens now (I fostered a kitten I found stranded outside my house and kept him home for a couple of months trying to find someone to adopt him. When I tried introducing him to her she just got really upset and refused to speak to me or even look at me. There was a lot of crying on my part. Decided to give Garbage [the cat] away because of that and other safety reasons because we have big male cats at home)

Now we've started feeding this very cute 1 year old cat (Small Cat) and she's come to like us quite a bit- she doesn't even eat her food unless we pet her for a bit first. A month ago we found out that Small Cat was keeping her kittens in the apartment behind our house. We didn't interact with them and kept a safe distance but in the past week, she's brought all three of them here. The kittens are adorable. I already love them but they're still quite wary and only let us play with them from a considerable distance. They don't stay at the house 24/7 but when they come, they stay for more than a couple of hours.

Ginger didn't really like Small Cat in the beginning either but kind of made her peace with her presence in the house. She would get annoyed with us when we petted Small Cat but it didn't seem to bother her too much. Now that the kittens are here, she's either extremely angry or extremely upset. She's seen me looking at them and petting Small Cat and she's been extremely angry with me for the past 4 days - recoiling every time I try to pet her, scratching/biting too, and basically just running away from me every time I go anywhere near her.

I love her so much and I want to make it up to her. What should I do?

Dog Flatulence

I hope this is not too rude of a question,

recently our dog has been doing weaker and weaker farts almost teatering on pitiful, i can't tell if this is due to her age or if she is seriously ill,

normally when she farts its very loud and wet and pungent and oh so yummy to just take a big whiff of but as of late the farts have been down right despicable.

how can i make my dogs farts louder and more vibrant? one of my friends told me blowing directly in his anus would produce a bigger sound but no smell :( i kind of like to huff the smell.

Wet dog food does not seem to be working.

My dog has dark spots on its tongue... What does this mean?

Dog lovers know that one of the most notable features of the Chow Chow dog is its blue-black tongue. But, do dogs with dark spots on the tongue have Chow Chow descent?

Not really.

Although the blue-black tongue is one of the most distinctive characteristics of the Chow Chow dog, actually the Chow Chow is not the only dog breed with a blue-black tongue. Like Akita, Chinese Shar-Pei, Shepherd Dog, Dobermann, Golden Retriever, Tibetan Mastiff, etc., spots may also appear on their tongues.

In fact, these dark spots on the dog’s tongue are mainly caused by excess pigmentation, just like the birthmarks and freckles on our bodies.

In addition, dogs will also have dark spots on their skin, but these spots are often hidden by their fur. When you shave your dog, you may be able to see the "birthmark" on them.

However, if some new spots suddenly appear on the dog's tongue or skin, now the owner must to pay attention!

Because canine melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma may cause spots on the dog's skin, and the appearance of pigmented fleshy lump in the dog's mouth may be due to oral cancer.

Therefore, owners should do routine oral care for the dog in daily life, and also pay attention to observe the dog’s oral cavity for abnormalities such as halitosis and lumps, which can effectively help early diagnosis or disease prevention .

In general, as long as the spots on the dog's tongue are not a symptom of a disease, owners can do not worry and just ignore it.

Finally, if you wish to download some videos about pet in websites like YouTube and Twitter, I recommend Rock Downloader, it allows you to download any videos you want from many websites, such as Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, etc. Give it a try!

Kitten seems lethargic after 2 days deworming

I dewormed her since 2 days ago. She played well after that and suddenly after 2 days she turned up looks very lethargic. But she still eats and drinks. I am so concern about her. Normally she plays a lot and rarely to be seen like this.. Is it normal or not?

Stray Kitty Not

Stray Kitty Not

Hi everyone,

So recently I posted about a mama kitty who’s been visiting and hanging out and the owners are dirt bags. My boyfriend and I also found a male cat who was not fixed, dirty, hungry and covered in scratches. For the past week he’s been living in our house not wanting to leave or anything. We bathed him and got him checked out at the vet. Got his vaccinations and flea and tick prevention as well. Also checked to make sure he wasn’t chipped.

Apparently the same dirt bags that own the mama kitty and about 15 other underfed dirty cats claim that he’s theirs. I’m so upset. Tomorrow were giving him back to them but I’m so worried about him. It’s so cold here and they weren’t taking care of him. We live in an area with coyotes, owls and by a busy road. Four of their cats regularly come over to me and the neighbors house to eat because they don’t feed them.

They’re scary people and harassed me for my address and we’re very intimidating when they saw that I had him. Tomorrow I will be giving him back. This is more of just a sad rant than anything else. They’re going to let him back outside because that’s what they do with all of their cats and he’s gonna come back. (I hope) I plan on calling animal control tomorrow so hopefully that helps. I just want to keep him even though I know that’s not right. I’m just feeling really down because he’s made a place in our house and hearts. We even had an appointment for getting him fixed and chipped and weren’t planning on letting him outside anymore other than with a harness.

If he comes back i don’t know if I can just watch him sit at our door crying. He’s been in and out a few times before he made permanent residence here and didn’t want to go outside anymore. If he comes back I’m thinking of just keeping him. Please just scold me if you think that’s wrong I feel like I’m not thinking right. I just love him so much already and he’s so happy here. They didn’t post or anything about him and weren’t searching for him. Just stumbled on a Facebook post of mine.

If these people were responsible pet owners and actually cared I would be so happy to give him back. But they’re not and I don’t want to give him back but they’re honestly scary people and have lied about they’re animals so many times. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want them to get the police involved and all that and he’s rightfully theirs even if they don’t care for him properly.

What would you guys do in this situation especially if he turns up at my house again? Be brutally honest I’m being selfish in wanting to keep him but at the same time we’re taking such good care of him. Thanks guys.

my love for my cat is beyond this world

you're my everything milo. i've only known you for 3 years, yet it feels like i've known you my whole life. it's you who keeps me from doing bad stuff. i wanna be here to take care of you, and live for as long as you are able to live. when i first met you, i didn't think much about anything. i was devastated because my bunny had recently died– i didn't want to move on. but the moment i saw you, i fell in love with you. i remember the first moment we shared together. you were really really timid and so small. you hid under my bed for a long while, until night came along and everything was silent. i felt you walking around my room, it felt so magical. i took my phone out and lit up the flash to see where u were. u looked so scared and u stopped sniffing. i leaned my hand out for you to smell that i was a perfectly kind human. after sniffing it, you brushed against it. i'm a person with little patience, but i was willing to wait all my life just for you to trust me. milo, i know that the world didn't treat you properly when u first arrived. you were just a small kitten in the rain, so alone– i can't imagine what you must've felt. i promise that you won't ever go through that again. i love you so much milo. thank you so much for being in my life and making everything better. thank you for always being so protective of me and for always keeping an eye on me (literally). i don't know what i'd do without you. you're my everything<3

Experiencing severe kitty blues after getting two kittens, any advice would be appreciated!!

TLDR: Got two kittens a little over a month ago and experiencing regret, anxiety and I think what they call the kitty blues. Any help/advice for anyone who can relate would be much appreciated!

Backstory:

I have been wanting cats for the past 2 years, I read extensively about them, watched Youtube videos, cat-sitted for a couple of friends (each time around 2+ weeks, so I thought I was getting a good idea of how to live with cats). I settled on wanting Ragdoll cats based on their personality and demeanor and thought they will be good for a first time cat owner. (Note that I did not grow up with any pets, so this is my first time owning pets).

So after extensive research, my boyfriend and I located reputable breeders and was on a waitlist for around 6 months. Two kittens from two different breeders became available on the same time and we decided to get them both. We initially only wanted one but we were advised by multiple people to get two kittens so they can play with each other and burn off each other's energy. We also thought this was the perfect time as we are both WFH til mid next year so we are able to really be with the kittens full time for their kittenhood.

The first week bringing them home was blissful and we were so in love. We prepared separate rooms for each kitten to get acclimated to the house. We bought all the items the breeders recommended, toys, litter boxes, cat trees etc and they both appear to settle in well, and clearly well socialized by the breeders. They love cuddles, OK with being picked up, gentle around us. We introduced them to each other after around a week and they got along immediately.

Issue:

In the middle of the second week, issues started occurring. One of the kitties started to not eat, and took multiple vet trips to fix the issue. After that was over, the other kitten had watery diarrhea and got it all over her fur and the house at 2 AM. This happened twice. I only slept for 3 hours each night then. After we got her stomach issue resolved, now the other kitten is having soft stool, and having poop consistently stuck to his fur, meaning we have to repeatedly cut his butt hair and wipe his butt.

This is where things start to go downhill for me. I'm starting to become very anxious, since I did not anticipate this many health problems so early on and start fearing for the day more serious health isuses will happen. Any little thing that seems a little off, I go on a Google search frenzy and panic. I also started becoming very paranoid about their poopy butts being everywhere and constantly checking for poop. I'm also feeling this really deep seated fear of being responsible for not only one BUT TWO creatures. I've always been used to living life just thinking about my own needs and health, but having two creatures fully dependent on me is putting me on the verge of anxiety attacks. I also feel guilty that that I don't spend enough time with them, etc.

I'm now at the point where I feel immense regret ever getting these kittens. If I could turn back time, I wish I just stuck with cat-sitting for friends and never attempted this. I know that I will never get anymore pets after this. I'm thinking of returning one of the cats to the breeders where I know he will be cared for greatly (she explicitly stated in her contract that she will take back any of her cats should we not be able to care for it anymore and I saw firsthand the loving environment the kitten was bred in), and try to stick it out with just one cat and see how I feel. I love these creatures and I want to cry just thinking about the potential of giving them up. I also feel immensely guilty for feeling this way, I wanted to provide them a forever home, give them the happiest and best life ever and now I feel that is an insurmountable task that is detrimental to my mental health.

I recognize that my anxiety is the problem. But at what point do I just throw the towel and say my mental health is more important? How many more months should I give it an honest try before I give up? Anyone who have experienced kitty blues have any advice or stories of how they overcame it, and how long it took them?

Thank you for everyone who read the whole post.

Need help with my grandparents' cats

So my grandaprents' live in a small rural farm and they always had a bunch of animals like dogs and cats (6-8), but last month they were down to just 1 cat.

So my parents and I decided to give them a small female rescued kitty (2 months old) to keep them company, which was working out fairly well, until the older one that was already there (another female cat, that is about 6-8 years old) decided to try and kill the kitty today.

This is a worst case scenario, because my grandparents are absolutely LOVING the kitty, but they also dont want to get rid of the older cat, because even though she has always been a distant cat, she has been living there for 6 years.

What should my grandparents do to stop this? They live in a farm, so there is plenty of space for both, but the older one seems (I think) to be really jealous of the "competition", so is there anything they can do?

How to re-home a pet (Cat) when family and friends aren'tinterested?

My cat of 3 years needs a new home...

A couple problems have amounted to my decision:

  • her peeing on my dog bed (it's not a UTI)
  • not enough space for her to roam/play/run around with dogs in apartment
  • not enough attention given to her that she needs
  • Terrible with traveling

But I'm having trouble finding a rehome. She is cute and tons of Pros like "caught up on shots" and such but how do I find a owner?

question about adopting a kitty

so i want to adopt a cat. preferably a senior that is calm and just wants cuddles and attention and is quiet. my question is this. so i just bought a house and am redoing the place. the master bedroom and bathroom are going to be redone before i move in but i’m taking my time with the rest of the house. do you think my future cat will mind if i have some of the carpet in the other parts of the house ripped up. i don’t know what it is underneath but i just dont want him/her to be stressed. do you think the cat will be okay to live with me in my house while i’m remodeling as long as he/she can sleep in the nice redone room with me? might be a stupid question but i want to be a good cat parent

Cat allergy questions

I found a 2 month kitten just about a year ago and he has always had an itching problem, and an off and on coughing problem.

Ive taken him to a couple different vets who all think its allergy related and I agree. The vets listened for asthma and said he sounded great. They recommended unscented litter and to try each protein of food until we find a match.

I have done this and thankfully I havnt seen him have a coughing fit since, but he is still itching a lot. Hes getting some bald spots with scabs and of course I feel bad for him. I VERY foolishly didnt get him a steroid shot at my most recent visit because I thought it wasnt smart to get within a 2 month span but it turns out its not. (The vet was probably okay with bypassing because first time customers were 15% off)

So Im looking for suggestions on itch relief for my black October kitty Spooky.

Im seeing sprays online and am wondering if I just spray directly onto his bald spots? Does it just soothe his itch in the sprayed areas?

He hasnt had his claws clipped since he was a kitten so I think I need to give that a shot (although Im sure he'll make it more difficult then needed lol)

Is there a steroid pill or anything I can just buy online/over the counter to give him every now and then myself?

I should've asked my vet these questions but unfortunately I didnt so if anyone happens to have any knowledge on this Id appreciate any help!!
