We just brought home a new puppy. Introduction was done on neutral territory. Both resident dogs were pretty excited about the puppy, but our female dog was a little too excited and got a little rough. Male dog checked the puppy out, sniffed her thoroughly, and attempted to play. Brought puppy in the house and female dog got rough with her again. Even with us trying to redirect her. Female dog started biting the puppy. Just nipping or nibbling with her front teeth. Very scary for me. Puppy’s reaction was to roll over and be submissive. Now I’m afraid to let female dog near the puppy without the kennel between them. Any suggestions on how to calm resident dog down and stop the rough “handling”? My current plan is a muzzle.
