I'm moving and I can't take my dog. I'm just sad. Advice?

After graduating from college two and a half years ago, I moved back home to take care of my mom (cancer). We have two dogs. One of them over the past three years has become my absolute best friend in the whole world. She follows me around the house constantly, we play lots every day, she sleeps with me, and we're just very close. But now I'm moving to NYC and I just really don't think I can take her with me.

The cost of living for a dog is very high, not to mention there's very little living space for a dog, no grass, etc. At least here, (Florida) my dog has her brother (our other dog), my mom who loves her very much, and a substantial backyard with a pool that she loves to swim in. The only problem is that I won't be here and it really makes me feel awful. Like I'm abandoning her. I know the rational adult advice would be, "she's a dog. You can't base your life decisions off of a dog." But she's so much more than that to me. I worry every day about leaving her, how she'll adapt without me, if she'll think about me, If she'll be ok.

Have any of you experienced similar situations? If so, how did you handle them. If not, I'd still love to hear your thoughts. I know I probably sound like a crazy person to the typical adult, but I can't help it. I love this dog. She's my best friend in the whole world.
