hi reddit!
my kitten is about 5 months old and is like most kittens- fairly active and always wanting to play. today the kitten went into my closet (he goes in there to sleep sometimes) to play and mess around with the clothes inside.
after leaving the closet, he suddenly starts running frantically and begins to incessantly groom himself. his back muscles begin to twitch quite sporadically and he runs into the laundry room to hide. my older cat goes to check on him and he makes a howling noise, telling her not to get near him/touch him. he still had appetite/accepted treats and climbed on my shoulder to get them.
i brought him into the vet today because he was acting so strange. the vet ran his hands through his coat and didn’t feel anything, checked his heartbeat, and temperature. there was no apparent/obvious signs of sickness or fleas/ticks- so the vet just said he might’ve just gotten bit by some random bug and is a little sore from it. the vet said that if he’s not acting normal by tomorrow, to schedule another appointment to come back.
after we got back from the vet, he hasn’t done much besides sleep. i’m pretty sure he’s just exhausted from the vet since the vet stuck a thermometer up his butt and he just never likes the vet lol. he plays for only a few minutes while laying down, but quickly loses interest. his back muscles are twitching still occasionally and he still is grooming himself quite frantically. i’m sure it’s nothing, but i’m still just a bit worried.
any help/opinions on this is much appreciated! has anything like this or something similar happened to your cat? if so- how did you convey your concerns to your vet? thank you guys so much!!
