Hi we recently got a puppy (sprocker spaniel). At night when we go to bed, we leave him in the lobby to sleep for the night, he obviously barks as soon as he's left alone and I've read that you must ignore your dog when it is barking alone as it needs to know that barking will not get it attention, otherwise it will never stop. After about 5/10 minutes of barking he quiets down and goes to sleep.
However what I want to know is, what about when your dog wakes up in the early morning (5/6am) and you are awaken by the noise of barking. Do you keep ignoring him till you're ready to wake up? What if needs food or needs to pee/poop. If you tend to him will that not show that barking will get him attention?
Thanks from a dog novice.
