Hes 5 and for about 3 years now, his anal sacs are constantly infected (from having too much secretions) and he expresses his anal glands at least once a day, every day.. on the carpet, couch, his bed. This poor boy keeps grunting at his butt, and our home smells like dead fish left out on a hot day. The vet keeps injecting antibiotics and steroids into his glands, and expressing them. She said i need to come in once every 2 weeks to express them and get the injections… it costs me $150 per visit!! I asked about anal gland removal but she said thats excessive and he doesn’t need it. If meds arent helping, and expressing them isnt working, am I a bad owner for wanting to argue and fight for a surgery, especially because i feel like spending $300 a month for the rest of god knows how long is unaffordable and not worth it if its not working?
