My boyfriend and I adopted a dog 2 1/2 years ago from the shelter. He was 6 months old at the time. I know nothing about his past except that he was returned multiple times. He is a relatively calm dog when he has a routine. He loves to snuggle and sleep pretty much all day. But when people come over, which is fairly often, he will start to lick their face in excitement and many times has nibbled or bit their face at the same time. I believe it’s a huge issue. I don’t trust him around children and I try to keep out of our guests personal space. The dog has a lot of anxiety, specifically separation anxiety. He cannot go to the dog park because he can be aggressive. My boyfriend does not seem to think it’s an issue. Whenever we try to talk about it I just get so frustrated because he doesn’t think the same way I do. He always just says “he’s a good boy”. I don’t know what to do about it. Boyfriend thinks having people over more often will get him used to it. I think he’s one bite away from having to get put down, which makes me not want him around people at all. I know he needs socialization, but I don’t want to use our friends as guinea pigs for my dog that nibbles/ bites faces. Anyone have advice for me on how to get my boyfriend on the same page & help my dog?
