So my jack Russell/chihuahua mix (7y/o) has been attacked for the 3rd time by my neighbors great dane. This time I was just feet away. Had I not been she'd probably be dead. My dog, as you'd expect, barks and stirs shit up but then my neighbors dog comes into my yard and snatches my dog up with intent to kill. my neighbors saw it and offered no apologies and I'm not sure what to do. After the 2nd attack ,in 2017, I got me a big dog to defend my turf. A great pyrenees/pitbull mix. Hes a good guardian but I had him tied up. I never tie him up, this was actually the first time I'd ever done so. We live in the country so hes either running loose( if I can Watch him), on a leash, or in my dog pen. Regardless hes never attacked anyone or anyone's pets. (He does kill gophers and shit) he loves all the cats, both my neighbors cats and mine but I guess because I let him run loose under my supervision, my neighbor thinks that they can do the same. The difference is my dog, while huge, is trained and wouldn't hurt a fly. I'm 28 and physically able to control my dog if things get out of hand. She is 65 and cant walk half the time. I dont know what to do. I'm worried that if I handle this the wrong way that my trashy ass neighbors may try to poison my dog but if I do nothing then my jack/chi may not be so lucky next time. I live in a small town and my neighbors have a bad reputation for being "trashy". Ironically when we asked about the neighbors before we bought the place we were told that they would be the best neighbors anyone could ask for. They are the worst. They pulled a gun on me because I took my trash down to the pickup spot and they claimed I was helping some guy they kicked out gt his stuff or something. Idk... I just know that this is a delicate situation and I need advice. Please help.
Also my neighbor watches the door to see when I let my little dog out and let's out her great dane every time I let "izzy" out. I also believe the great dane realized my great pyrenees/pit was tied up and that's why she attacked when she did. Smart dog, I'll give it that.
