Hi everyone,
My boyfriend and I have two cats, including one 5 month old kitten we recently adopted. The thought of leaving them (to go on trips, etc) gives me a LOT of anxiety.
For context, my boyfriend recently brought up the idea to go on a week long trip. We got into an argument because I felt that our kitten was not old enough to be left alone for that long with a cat sitter who would only drop by once or twice a day. Boarding is also an option but it is expensive, and I also do not want them to feel like they are going back to being stuck in a cage at the shelter :(. Unfortunately where I live I don't have any relatives or close friends who I trust to house sit and take care of the cats. My boyfriend thinks I'm being irrational and says that at the end of the day they are just animals, and that nothing bad will happen to them. Logically, I understand that, but I cannot help but feel anxious at the thought of leaving them alone (especially my kitten).
Now we have a plan for a much shorter trip (1-2 nights) but I still feel extremely anxious and I'm not even sure I will be able to enjoy my trip while thinking about how lonely my cats might feel. Does anyone else struggle with this when leaving their pets alone?
