Tips and Trick living with cat allergies?

I am moving in with roommates and one of them has two cats. I always knew I had allergies, but was fine with moving in as long as I could find ways to cope. Typically, my symptoms include a runny nose, sneezing, and hives/rash on my arms/hands when I get licked. The rash/hives typically goes away with some water and soap. The cats are sweet and they apparently really like me since they always want to be with me. Does anyone else deal with these symptoms? What do you do to tackle them? Below is what I am trying:

  1. My room is off limits to the cats.
  2. I will change my clothes frequently and change when I go in my room so I do not spread dander.
  3. Take allergy meds
  4. Avoid licks and exposure directly
  5. Vacuum constantly
  6. Use an air purifier.

Any other tips? I am afraid it will get worse over time and I already signed the lease so that would be a major problem. Has anyone taken so much allergy meds that it’s not effective anymore?

Any help would be great! Thanks!
