Cat occasionally gets poop stuck to his butt/fur

Yesterday morning I woke up to the sound of my cat rubbing his ass all over my apartment floor, so naturally there were traces of poop pretty much everywhere. Gave him a bath then cleaned my floors. My guess is he had mild diarrhea and it just didn't come out completely and it stayed in his fur, which is quite long for a 10 month old kitty. Is this normal for a young cat? This is the second time this has ever happened to him.

I'm thinking of cutting Fancy Feast out of his diet and just sticking to regular kitty formula.
