Worried about my new kitten and my dear cat

I know this has been asked a gazillion times, but I haven't found any useful answers yet.

I have a three-year old female cat, Kiara, who's been the sole ruler of the house since she was two months old. I love her with all my heart, but I admit she's not easy-going. She has trouble accepting changes around the house (she hasn't even accepted my two-year old nephew yet), and likes things done on her own terms, even petting. She's the main reason I've been doubtful about getting a second cat, even though I really wanted one, and also because my dad isn't a cat person and one was more than enough for him.

However, he got over it apparently and both my parents decided to surprise me for my birthday with a 1,5 month old kitten (I named her Cleo). She's such a sweet little bean, but she's still very dependent so we can't exactly seclude her in a room for a long time, we put all our efforts to do the introduction as the internet (and Jackson Galaxy) says, but we had to break some rules because she doesn't eat or sleep if we leave her in the bathroom we prepared for her, she just cries.

Kiara, as expected, is not happy with the newcomer. She first saw her when I opened the door and she slid inside the bathroom where Cleo was and she smelled her cautiously, hissed and ran away. Now, three days in, she's very stressed and I don't know how to help her. I fed her wet food which she loves and she eats it only when Cleo is out of sight. Every time the little one is around she growls, doesn't take her eyes off her and hisses and runs if she gets close. She even hisses or growls at us when we go pet her with Cleo's smell on our hands.

I know it's still very early on, but knowing we're not doing things as recommended, I'm scared we're already setting everything up to fail.
