My 8 month old puppy is a bit cheeky but fairly well behaved (still in the process of training her). She knows all her basic commands (up, down, lay, sit, stay, wait, come etc) and when we are playing games such as fetch or tug of war she waits for my command to begin. The only problem I have with her is that she still mouths and bites! It has gotten a bit better but when she’s really excited it’s sometimes hard to stop her from jumping up and trying to grab my hands (she went from biting/mouthing any body part she could since she was 2 months old to now predominantly just mouthing/biting hands). I’ve tried everything to stop this behaviour from ignoring her to yelping like I’m in pain (which excites her more) and redirecting her biting with toys. From all the sources I’ve seen, puppies should grow out the habit by 6-7 months but now she’s 8 months old.
Are there any other techniques I could try before we get her pro training lessons? ( still figuring out how to fit our schedule with our local vets training lessons).
