Figured I'd ask. I feel like it's a stupid question, but I'm asking because I'm curious.
Can our pets experience nightmares or bad dreams? I'm asking because in the past, even today, I've noticed something peculiar with my cat in particular.
So, he takes a nap, right? He'll curl up and fall asleep in my living room. I spend most of my time in my bedroom. However, Once every now and then, maybe once a day, but not every day, I'll hear, through my headphones, his meowing, maybe even crying. When I go to check on him, he's awake, and looking around, still meowing, but the moment he sees me, he practically uses lock-on targeting with his eyes. He mews louder, and as I get closer, it gets quieter. When I reach down and pick him up, he seems to quite willingly crawl into my arms and seems to bury himself in my grip. His meowing immediately stops, and he starts purring quite noisily.
So, as my subject asks! Can cats, or pets in general experience nightmares? And if so, when they wake up, can they cry for their 'mommy/daddy' as a beg for comfort?
